Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology

At Sleep Advisor, our mattress reviews are based on findings from in-person tests that allow us to have a genuine understanding of how the mattress feels and performs. We look at features that are valuable to consumers, such as temperature control, bounce, edge support, and motion isolation.

We also evaluate mattress performance for back, side, and stomach sleeping. Lying in different positions lets us know how supportive the bed is and if it’s good at relieving pressure.

We then take all the information we’ve gathered to rate the bed in specific categories. These results allow us to help our readers find the right mattress for their needs.

Why the Emma Hybrid Comfort Earned Best Canadian Mattress Overall

The Emma Hybrid Comfort checks a ton of boxes, so I’ve given it the title of best Canadian mattress overall. This is a hybrid bed with a firmer feel that can accommodate a wide variety of sleepers, thanks to its combination of specialized foams and a sturdy zoned innerspring unit.

Furthermore, it should keep pretty cool. Its uppermost foam is full of air pockets that assists with temperature regulation, and its individually wrapped coils encourage airflow. It also comes in at a nice price after coupons and sales: just about C$550 for a queen.

Emma Hybrid Comfort side view
Testing the Emma Hybrid Comfort in the Sleep Advisor studio.

What’s the Emma Hybrid Comfort Made Of?

The Emma Hybrid Comfort has seven total layers and is 13 inches tall.

Inside the Emma Hybrid Comfort

  • Layer 1 – Top Cover. A light fiber cover is both soft and moisture-wicking for comfortable and cool sleep.
  • Layer 2 – Airgocell® Foam. A porous foam works to regulate temperature while promoting cushioning at the mattress surface.
  • Layer 3 – Memory Foam. This memory foam layer isolates motion while contouring to your body.
  • Layer 4 – HRX Foam. High-resiliency extra foam is firmer for targeted support.
  • Layer 5 – Innerspring Unit. There are seven distinct zones of coils to balance lift and give, ensuring your spine remains in comfortable alignment.
  • Layer 6 – Base. A durable and stable foam base layer.
  • Layer 7 – Lower Cover. This cover resists slipping and features handles for easy transportation.

My Take: Performance-wise, the Emma hybrid comfort earned a perfect spine alignment score from me during testing, as our team’s postures remained excellent even when we switched up sleep positions. The coils do a great job of responding to movement and work well with the foam layers to keep pressure off of the hips and shoulders.

Pros
Lifted support – This bed has a super lifted feeling, thanks to its strong coil unit and how it encourages neutral spinal alignment. Combination sleepers should appreciate how easy it is to move on top of this mattress.
Decent motion isolation – Hybrids sometimes perform poorly in this category because of their springiness, but I was surprised by the Emma Hybrid Comfort’s ability to absorb motion. Big movements might still cause disturbances, but smaller ones should stay muffled.
Cons
Makes noise – Moving around in the Hybrid Comfort produces a noticeable crinkling sound, which is probably the fault of one of its foam layers. Sleepers especially sensitive to noise may find it difficult to get comfortable.
Too firm for some side sleepers – Side sleepers of a lighter weight may feel that the mattress surface is too unyielding and contributing to pressure buildup.

Customer Reviews of the Emma Hybrid Comfort

This is a fairly new mattress, so Emma’s site doesn’t have many reviews yet, but early customers already rate it an impressive 5 out of 5 stars. So far customers appreciate the Emma Hybrid Comfort mattress for its excellent motion isolation, but some have reported that it may have a slight initial off-gassing odor upon unboxing.

Why the Octave Vista Earned Best Canadian Mattress for Couples

The Vista is touted as Octave’s “value” model, but we found its nice price tag also came with plenty of benefits for couples. Its all-foam construction absorbs motion like a pro, making it easy for couples to toss and turn without disturbing their partner. This bed also features some cooling tech to keep you both from overheating.

Its balanced support and pressure-relieving foams should make it a great pick for many types of sleepers, including couples looking to snuggle up in a new bed.

Testing the Octave mattress at Sleep Advisor
Testing the Octave Vista in our studio.

What’s the Octave Vista Made Of?

The Octave Vista is a 12-inch tall memory foam mattress. It has four layers total.

Inside the Octave Vista

  • Layer 1 – CryoFusion™ Nanofibre Cover. As the name suggests, the cover is woven with cooling fibers to help keep the surface of the bed from overheating.
  • Layer 2 – CopperGel™ Memory Foam + PolarMAX® (2 inches). Copper and phase-change material work together to ensure this pressure-relieving memory foam layer also stays cool.
  • Layer 3 – Premium Elastex® Foam (2 inches). This foam layer features near-instant bounce-back as it comfortably molds to your body.
  • Layer 4 – Support Foam (8 inches). A dense foundation of breathable foam with five distinct zones for targeted support.

Our Take: “Motion isolation is there 1000%. Couples should really enjoy this, especially if one of you is a light sleeper.” Loren Bullock, Lead Mattress Tester

Pros
Nice price – A queen-size Octave Vista retails for under C$1,000, a good bargain buy—especially when you consider the quality you’re getting for that price.
Brings the support – The support layer of this foam bed was noticeable when we laid down on it in the studio. It should help coax your spine into proper alignment. Loren recommended it most for back sleepers.
Cons
Not for lightweight sleepers – Though this bed is packed with cushy foams, we still think that they may be too firm for petite sleepers. These folks should check out a softer bed to make sure they find a comfortable sink.
Not the bounciest – Couples wanting to have ease of movement during sex may find the Octave Vista lacking in this department. Its motion-absorbing foams aren’t very springy.

Customer Reviews of the Octave Vista

On the Octave Vista’s page, the bed receives a 4.7 out of 5 stars. Though some customers have noted a longer-than-expected break-in period, many customers appreciate the Octave Vista mattress for its exceptional pressure relief and cooling properties.

Why the Polysleep Mattress Earned Best Canadian Mattress for Back Sleepers

The Polysleep mattress incorporates a combination of pressure-relieving foams and a support frame that allows for even weight distribution across the bed. This medium-firm construction is a perfect match for back sleepers, since it’ll encourage healthy spinal alignment.

This bed boasts a number of  bonus features, too: a nice price, hypoallergenic materials, and a machine-washable, water-resistant cover.

What’s the Polysleep Mattress Made Of?

The Polysleep mattress is 10 inches tall and made of foam layers.

Inside the Polysleep

  • Breathable Cover. This cover repels liquid as well as excess warmth, so neither spills nor overheating should be an issue.
  • Comfort Layer. A hybrid Viscoelastic foam that’s ventilated for breathability and designed to prevent the buildup of bacteria.
  • Transition Layer. This foam layer is soft to help with weight distribution and easing sleepers into the firm base layer.
  • Foam Base. A dense foam foundation.
  • Support Frame. Lining the perimeter of the mattress is a strong foam frame that maintains support all the way around the bed.

My Take: Quick Latin lesson—”poly” in Latin means “many,” and there’s many things that go into the Polysleep mattress to help it excel with pressure relief and cooling. Most of it can be chalked up to the bed’s breathable foams and a mesh, liquid-repellant cover.

Pros
Strong edges – The foam frame along the perimeter of the bed keeps the edges from sagging when they bear weight. This means you should be able to make use of the full mattress and lie or sit on the edges while feeling supported.
Easy cleaning – The liquid-resistant cover is super helpful when it comes to cleaning, but it also extends the longevity of the mattress by protecting it. The cover can also be taken off for easy washing.
Cons
Some off-gassing – Off-gassing is typical for foam mattresses that come in a box, but we noticed the smell sticks around this one for about two days. If you’re sensitive to smell, you might have to wait to use your bed.
Too thin for some – A thinner bed can make it difficult for some sleepers who want to sink into their mattresses, especially if they’re on the heavier side. Some side and stomach sleepers may prefer a taller bed.

Customer Reviews of the Polysleep

On the Polysleep website, this mattress is rated 4.7 out of 5 stars. Customers commend the Polysleep mattress for its supportive foam layers and comfortable sleep experience, but some find its edge support lacking compared to other memory foam mattresses.

Why the Logan & Cove Mattress Earned Best Canadian Pillow Top Mattress

The Logan & Cove mattress boasts a luxurious pillow top filled with plush fibers and gel-infused foam, providing sumptuously soft sleep right at the surface. This softness on top is bolstered by coils below, resulting in a pleasant medium-firm feel that should work for most sleepers.

As a bonus, the mattress retails for just C$999, and that’s before any sales or coupons!

What’s the Logan & Cove Mattress Made Of?

The Logan & Cove has four layers and is about 12 inches thick.

Inside the Logan & Cove

  • Layer 1 – Quilted Top Cover (0.5 inches). The top cover is woven with CryoFusion™ nanofibers to regulate temperature. The fill of the pillow top itself consists of a hollow fiber fill alongside quilted gel foam.
  • Layer 2 – Cooling Gel Foam (1 inch). Another layer of memory foam relieves pressure while the gel inside it helps with cooling.
  • Layer 3 – Elastex® Foam (1.5 inches). This responsive foam layer bounces back as you move, continuously contouring to your body.
  • Layer 4 – Coils (9 inches). Five zones of individually wrapped coils assist with motion isolation while ensuring you stay lifted.

Our Take: “This hybrid has a Euro pillow top, which lets you get all the sinking and softness of a traditional pillow top, but with extra weight distribution across the surface.” – Loren, Lead Product Tester

Pros
Cooling capability – The foams in the Logan & Cove are designed to cushion without trapping unwanted heat. This, combined with the bed’s cooling cover and pocketed coils, creates a breathable construction that lends itself well to regulating temperature.
Good for couples – This bed has everything a couple might want: it’s got foams on top to absorb motion, strong edges to ensure full use of the surface, and bounce for ease of movement.
Cons
Hefty – Multiple customers complained that it was difficult to move this bed on their own. Make sure you bring an extra pair of hands for moving day.
Not for foam fans – This bed has a bouncier feel that won’t give the pleasant sink associated with traditional memory foam. If you want a bed that’ll hug you, consider an all-foam mattress instead.

Customer Reviews of the Logan & Cove

On the Logan & Cove website, this mattress is rated 4.7 out of 5 stars. Customers value the Logan & Cove mattress for its luxurious pillow-top comfort and excellent support, but some find it heavier and more challenging to move or rotate than other mattresses.

Why the Douglas Original Earned Best Canadian Mattress for the Money

If you’re looking for a quality Canadian mattress that won’t break the bank, the Douglas Original is one of your best bets. A queen retails for just C$799, and that includes an entire sleep set with pillows and sheets.

This medium-firm mattress boasts a number of standout features alongside its generous price. For one, the bed is constructed with sustainable materials and manufacturing practices. It also boasts cooling features, motion-isolating foams, and a machine-washable cover.

Douglas Mattress Testing
Testing the Douglas Original in our testing studio.

What’s the Douglas Original Made Of?

The Douglas Original is 10 inches thick, featuring three foam layers.

Inside the Douglas Original

  • Layer 1 – CoolSense® Cover. This removable cover features fibers that wick away moisture to ensure a cool and dry sleep surface.
  • Layer 2 – ecoLight® Cooling Gel Foam (2 inches). An alternative to typical heat-trapping foam, this responsive foam layer offers lots of cushioning. It’s also created with 40% less carbon input, earning it the “ecoLight®” in its name.
  • Layer 3 – Elastex® Foam (2 inches). This foam layer resembles latex foam with its support and buoyancy.
  • Layer 4 – Support Foam (6 inches). Douglas claims this layer mimics “millions of tiny pocket-coil springs” for ultimate support and motion isolation.

My Take: Douglas produces its high-quality beds in Ontario with a special emphasis on eco-friendly manufacturing practices, like lowering the carbon emissions caused by foam production. Fortunately, this amount of care does not come with exorbitant prices.

Pros
Great for foam fans – Seeking a sumptuous sink? The Douglas Original’s all-foam construction provides just that. Its softer foam layers should cradle you gently while the support foams ensure you don’t sink too far.
Keeps cool – Despite being made entirely of foam, the Douglas Original doesn’t retain as much heat as I thought it would. Thanks to the cooling cover and gel foam, it shouldn’t overheat.
Cons
Not for heavyweight sleepers – Average- and lightweight sleepers will get the most out of this bed, but when it comes to folks over 200 pounds, they’re probably going to sink in too far to feel comfortable.
Lacking bounce – Though the Douglas Original features various responsive foams, I wasn’t totally impressed with its bounciness. It won’t give you the same springy feel as a hybrid bed.

Customer Reviews of the Douglas

On the Douglas website, this mattress is rated 4.7 out of 5 stars. Customers praise the Douglas Original Mattress for its eco-friendly construction and excellent pressure relief, but some report that it retains more heat than preferable, especially for hot sleepers.

Why the Silk & Snow Hybrid Earned Best Canadian Hybrid Mattress

The Silk & Snow Hybrid is a fantastic deal if you’re in the market for a Canadian hybrid bed. It’s only C$900, and on sale in the US for $700—a pretty good deal when you consider its construction, which includes a zoned coil unit, comfort foams, and a dense foam perimeter dedicated to edge support.

Its innerspring unit gives the bed a firmer feel (7.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale) that should appeal to sleepers seeking proper alignment. Stomach and back sleepers are perhaps best fitted to its profile.

Silk & Snow Hybrid in the studio with our mattress testers
The Silk & Snow Hybrid – take a look at that plush cushioning.

What’s the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress Made Of?

The Silk & Snow Hybrid is 12 inches tall.

Inside the Silk & Snow Hybrid

  • Layer 1 – Antimicrobial Cover. The cover is treated to stave off unwanted bacterial growth.
  • Layer 2 – Cool Sleep Surface. Quilted foam starts out the mattress with plush cushioning.
  • Layer 3 – Memory Foam. Dense memory foam allows for pressure relief.
  • Layer 4 – Coil Unit. Individually wrapped coils are reinforced in the middle of the mattress for firmer support.
  • Layer 5 – Foam Edges. A firm foam perimeter strengthens the edges of the mattress.

My Take: The coils help this mattress work for most sleep positions since they’re laid out in zones. The firmest support is in the center of the mattress, and these springs help lift essential areas like the lower back and midsection (for back and stomach sleepers respectively).

Pros
Zoned support – The center of the coil unit features firmer springs. This design bolsters support beneath crucial areas like the hips and stomach, while allowing for more give under the shoulders. It can even help to mitigate pain caused by sleeping out of alignment.
Plenty of bounce – These pocketed coils also give the bed a buoyant surface, meaning you should be able to toss and turn to your heart’s content without feeling stuck.
Cons
Not the best for side sleepers – Though there are some soft foams in the Silk & Snow, I think that the bed’s firmness isn’t suited to most side sleepers. They might want more cushion on top to balance out the lift from the coils.
Could overheat – There is cooling technology built into this bed and airflow through the coils, but I’m not super impressed with the bed’s ability to regulate temperature. If you sleep super hot, you may not get the cooling you need.

Customer Reviews of the Silk & Snow Hybrid

Customers appreciate the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress for its combination of supportive coils and pressure-relieving foam, but some find it a bit firmer than expected, which may not suit all sleep preferences.

Benefits of Buying a Mattress in Canada Online

Buying a mattress online can be one of the quickest and most convenient shopping methods. Many sites will provide comparison tools or quizzes and guides so that you can see how their product stacks up to the rest of the market or so you can choose between their products based on your individual needs.

Many brands offer matching accessories that can be purchased alongside the mattress. Bedding sets, pillows, toppers, and frames might all be available to bundle with your order. Extended sleep trials for in-home product testing, free delivery (most of the time), and the option to have the mattress company set up your new bed are all big pluses in the online buying column, as well.

Understand the Manufacturer’s Customer Service When Buying a Mattress from Canada

Most bed-in-a-box brands offer representatives that you can chat with, email, or call to learn more about the product. They can provide answers to questions that are not addressed on the product page, or walk you through your decision to help you choose the item that should suit you best.

Occasionally, companies will provide interactive features like quizzes that will point you in the direction of your ultimate comfort feel.

What to Look for in a Canadian Mattress

The United States may have led the way for the bed-in-a-box industry, but America’s northern neighbor has established itself in the mattress marketplace with several Canadian-based manufacturers now offering quality beds that can be delivered directly to Canadian doorsteps. In addition to these, many American-based brands are now sold in Canadian retail stores or offer delivery.

Now that the bed-in-a-box market is taking off in Canada, this leaves many shoppers wondering where to begin choosing their new mattress. We’ll walk you through the online mattress shopping process, what to look for, and how to determine which bed is right for you.

Type of Mattress

Innerspring Mattresses

Innerspring bed prices largely depend on the density and gauge of the coils used, along with the type of comfort material included in the construction. Heavier sleepers and hot sleepers sometimes prefer innerspring beds as these mattresses offer enhanced support — including edge support  — and extra cooling as the coils allow air to flow in between them. Check out our list of the best innerspring mattress.

Hybrid Mattresses

Hybrid mattresses could vary the most in price due to the combination of both foam-based layers and springs.

The material used in the foams, along with the gauge and density of coils, will all factor into how this type of bed performs. Shoppers of all kinds should be able to find a hybrid with their required features thanks to the wide variety available in this construction model.

Memory Foam Mattresses

Memory foam mattresses can vary from the simple and affordable to the more pricey, decked-out versions. Memory foam beds that are infused with cooling gel or feature reinforced edges may be a little more expensive. Generally, shoppers looking for this material are fans of a deeper, warmer hug with lots of pressure relief.

Latex Mattresses

As with memory foam, the price of a latex bed may be determined by density and type of material. Dunlop and Talalay options may play a role in the cost, as well as organic or non-organic options. Shoppers who like latex mattresses are often seeking bounce and pressure relief.

How We Test for The Best Mattress in Canada

Sleeping Position

Our testers test each sleeping position to make sure each mattress fits the right sleeper
Back Sleepers

Back sleepers typically require a mattress that gives them a nice mix of lower back support and pressure relief. When we test for back sleeping, we’re looking at how well our lower back and hips are supported and whether we feel some pressure relief in the shoulders.

Side Sleepers

Considering that side sleepers place a lot of weight on relatively small areas of the body, these folks can experience intense pressure buildup around the hips and shoulders so they often need a contouring mattress with a soft to medium firmness. To evaluate if a mattress works well for side sleepers, we pay special attention to how much pressure relief we feel around our shoulders and hips, along with spinal alignment.

Stomach Sleepers

Firmer beds typically work best for stomach sleepers because these beds are often better at keeping their hips lifted. When deciding on a mattress recommendation for stomach sleepers, we note how well our midsections are elevated and if our spines stay in neutral alignment.

Combination Sleepers

Combination sleepers often prefer a medium-firm mattress that’s quick-responding to facilitate easier repositioning. When testing for combination sleepers, we note how easy it is to turn from one position to the other, and if we feel stuck in the mattress.

Weight/Body Type of Sleepers

A sleeper’s weight and body type play an important factor in the type of mattress and firmness levels that work best for you. We use three product testers of different weights to give you an accurate assessment of how each bed works. Our lightweight, average-weight, and heavyweight testers perform hands-on tests on mattresses in various sleep positions to evaluate how they will feel for their respective weight classes.

  • Lightweight sleepers (130 pounds or less) – Lightweight people don’t push as far down in a mattress as others, and because of this, beds often feel firmer to them. Loren Bullock is Sleep Advisor’s lightweight tester.
  • Average-Weight Sleepers (130-230 pounds) – For people like me who fall between 130-230 pounds, these folks need beds that support them and evenly distribute their body weight. Many average-weight sleepers find medium-firm beds appealing.
  • Heavyweight Sleepers (230+ pounds) – Sleep Advisor’s Spencer Bland serves as our heavyweight tester. Larger sleepers usually need additional support and a firmer feel. This can prevent them from pushing too far into the bed which can lead to spinal misalignment and pressure buildup.

Most beds do a solid job supporting people who weigh under 250 pounds. However, if you weigh more than that or are part of a couple whose combined weight exceeds 500 pounds, a mattress specially made for heavier sleepers could be a great choice to ensure you feel as comfortable and supported as possible.

Firmness

One of the most important factors in choosing a new bed is firmness level. We rate mattresses on a 1-10 scale, with 1 being cotton ball soft and 10 being akin to sleeping on a hardwood floor.

  • Soft mattresses often provide an initial soft, gently contouring feeling that is then met by firmer layers that support and keep the sleeper aligned. They often appeal to lightweight people and side sleepers. Mattresses with a 4 or 4.5 rating are considered soft. We typically don’t test anything softer than this because it likely wouldn’t be supportive enough.
  • Medium-firm mattresses have a universal appeal because they are not too hard or too soft. They tend to provide a mixture of comfort and support and can accommodate most sleepers. Medium or medium-firm mattresses are ranked between a 5 and 6.5.
  • Stomach sleepers and those on the heavier end of the scale are often served well by firm mattresses. Firm mattresses prevent these sleepers from sinking too far into the layers of their mattress, which helps keep their spines aligned. Anything rated a 7 or higher is considered firm.

Cooling / Temperature Regulation

It’s not easy to sleep soundly when you feel too hot at night. Mattress manufacturers have taken this into account, with many adding cooling properties to their designs, such as coils, infusing gel into memory foam, breathable covers, and more.

We take a series of readings with a temperature gun to get an accurate handle on a mattress’s temperature regulation capabilities. Before our testers get on a bed, we take an initial surface temperature and then take another one after they have been on it for five minutes. The tester gets back on the bed for another five-minute round before we record the final reading.

Emma Hybrid Comfort layers
The construction of the Emma Hybrid Comfort helped it earn a 4 out of 5 for cooling.

To give a mattress a 5 out of 5 for cooling, the surface temperature should stay within 5 degrees of the first temperature we take. However, we also take our first-hand experiences into account because a mattress‘s full cooling capabilities shouldn’t be based solely on temperature readings over a 10-minute period.

Motion Isolation

If you’ve ever been woken up by a restless partner’s nighttime movements, you should consider a mattress that isolates motion well. This means movements remain on their side of the bed, rather than transferring over to where you are.

When testing how well a bed absorbs motion, we use a seismograph app that registers disturbances. If the reading shows big waves, we know that the bed is registering a lot of movement. Lower waves and straight lines indicate that the mattress is absorbing motion well. We will also have two of our testers lie side by side and move around to see how partners may feel when sleeping together on this bed.

Memory foam beds tend to do an excellent job of isolating motion, though some hybrids with memory foam can also perform well at this.

Sex

Canadian couples who are sexually active can benefit from mattresses that have plenty of bounce for easier repositioning. Innerspring, hybrid, and latex mattresses are all buoyant and can be great mattress choices for sex. On the flip side, memory foam beds can sometimes leave people feeling more stuck because they’re slow-moving.

We consider great beds for sex also great beds for couples in general, so we also factor in other categories that are going to appeal to couples, cooling, weight capacity, edge support, and noise in addition to responsiveness. Although motion isolation doesn’t affect intercourse, it can impact sleep afterward, so we also factor that in.

Pressure Relief

Waking free from aches and pains has universal appeal. One big factor in ensuring this is to sleep on a mattress that provides pressure relief through softer comfort layers that can cushion and cradle the body.

Loren, Spencer, and I take turns lying on our back and side on a pressure map that is positioned on top of the mattress. The map shows whether or not there’s pressure with different colors. Red and yellow indicate pressure build-up, whereas blue and green let us know that the bed is providing pressure relief.

Mattresses containing latex or memory foam can be great for pressure relief.

While you may steer towards a softer bed if you want good pressure relief, make sure the mattress you’re interested in will keep you well-supported at the same time. If not, this could compromise pressure relief and spine alignment.

Edge Support

A bed’s ability to support your body weight around the perimeter is known as edge support. You are likely to notice poor edge support when you sit down on the side of the bed, and it sags significantly further down than the rest of the bed. This can limit the amount of surface space that can be utilized, particularly for couples.

To gauge the amount of sinking and slipping around a bed’s edge, we sit on it and tie our shoes for a minute. Next, we lie on the edge for a minute to see how secure we feel.

If your bed has strong edge support, this means there’s hardly any sinking while lying or sitting along the sides. Good edge support often comes from stronger perimeter coils or foam.

Factor in Costs and Set the Budget When Buying a Canadian Mattress

The price of your new bed may vary depending on the materials and construction used, shipping methods, and extra features. The size of the bed also plays a part — many brands will see a 200-500-dollar jump in price between each size.

Most mattress companies will offer a trial period, so if you choose the wrong product at first, you can try again. However, determining ahead of time the amount you are willing to spend for the features you need is always advisable.

Taxes

Taxes in Canada are different from province to province; some have very low tax rates, while others hover around 8-10 percent. Canada employs a goods and services tax of 5 percent. Also keep in mind that the tax rate may depend on where items are shipped to, rather than where they are bought or manufactured.

Shipping

Thankfully, shipping is often free when ordering a mattress from a Canadian company. If you are trying to ship from an American company or are shipping to a very remote area, however, there may be a shipping fee. Be sure to look into the shipping details and ask the company’s representatives for help when factoring this into your cost.

Potential Return Fees

Some brands will let you return a bed for free and may even let exchange it for a different model. Others might require a fee to return the mattress. Check the guidelines of the trial period to make sure you are comfortable with the policy when buying.

Add-ons (Pillows, Toppers, Sheets)

Are you going to need some extra cushioning and want to add a topper to your mattress? Are you getting a new bed size and need matching sheets and blankets to go with it? Are your pillows also in dire need of replacement?

Sometimes buying a bed means more than just getting yourself a new mattress. Be sure to work your other bedroom needs into your budget so you’ll know how much you can spare in each area.

Keep an eye out for bundles or sales that might knock a few dollars off your sales price, or even the occasional offer of free accessories with your mattress purchase. Deals like these can maximize your spending power, allowing you to fully makeover your entire bedroom.

If you would rather avoid these costs altogether, make sure to purchase a mattress with similar dimensions to your current bed so that you can reuse the items you already own.
