Features of Celebrity-Endorsed Mattresses:

Organic Luxury Materials

We noticed that a common theme between all the celebrity mattress is the material selection. Common high price tag materials include natural latex, organic cotton, and silk.

Organic, Latex and Hybrid Mattresses tend to have a higher price tag.

Smart Technology

Another common theme we have noticed, especially in athlete endorsed mattresses, is the advanced technology.

Celebrities tend to lean towards smart mattresses that can predict their recovery time, adjust with their bed frame, and give them a full report of their sleep every night.

Exclusiveness

We also found that celebrities are drawn to products not super readily available.

For example, the Kardashian approved Hästens mattresses sell for $14,000-$40,000 depending on the model. Which is a price tag most can’t afford.

Support & Pressure Relief

After testing all of these mattresses, I noticed that all of them performed very well with our pressure relief tests.

Looks like celebrities prioritize comfort and support to keep up with their lifestyles.

The holidays can certainly be a joyful time with family gatherings that consist of laughing around a crackling fireplace, decorating a tree, singing carols, and enjoying delicious food. Of course, the holiday season isn’t always like an idyllic Hallmark movie either. For many people, the holiday season is downright stressful.

However, that doesn’t mean you have to just power through it. There are ways to help you manage some of that holiday stress so that you can make it to the new year a little more refreshed and relaxed.

What Causes Seasonal Stress?

According to the American Psychological Association (APA), about two in five Americans1 say their stress levels increase from November to January each year. Further, nearly nine in 10 Americans2 report that at least one aspect of the previous holiday season caused them stress.

It may not surprise you, but finances are the number one worry for most people, closely followed by the stress of finding the right gift.2 Below, we’ll go over some of the most common causes of stress during the holiday season.

Money

Over half of U.S. adults feel stressed during the holidays because of finances. More specifically, they’re concerned about spending too much money or not having enough money.2

The APA found that this was especially true for households earning under $50,000 annually compared to households earning more than $100,000 annually.1

Gift-Giving

40 percent of adults in America are stressed about gift-giving during the holidays.1 This might include worrying about getting the right gifts for people, having enough time to buy gifts, the anxiety of shopping in crowds, or taking the time to ship them.

Family Time

Depending on your relationship and proximity to your family, you might experience family stress during the holidays. For 38 percent of Americans who can’t be with their loved ones during the holidays, this shows up as stress around missing their family.1

Of course, you might be one of the people who spends a little too much time with your family during the holidays, which can also lead to major stress. The APA says that 22 percent of American adults experience stress around anticipated family conflict during the holidays, and 30 percent are stressed with the pressure to make the holidays feel special.1

Schedules

For many people, the holidays are packed with outside expectations such as work parties, holiday functions, demands from family or friends, and a lack of downtime. More than 30 percent of American adults report feeling stressed about having too much to do during the holidays.1

Celebrating Different Holidays

People who don’t celebrate mainstream American holidays may have fewer stressful social demands, but instead, these folks may feel left out and underrepresented during this time.

According to the APA, nearly one in five American adults who celebrate traditional Jewish or other non-Christian holidays report feeling stressed because the holiday season doesn’t reflect their culture. The fear of potentially being discriminated against during the holiday season worries 42 percent of Jewish people and 55 percent of other non-Christians.1

Travel

According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the busiest travel days of the year are usually the Tuesday and Wednesday3 before Thanksgiving and then the Sunday after. The days leading up to Christmas and just after New Year’s are also some of the busiest in the airport.3

Roads also get clogged with traffic during the holidays, with some of the worst days to drive being December 23 and December 284. Transportation chaos can create a high level of stress, with 19 percent of people reporting holiday stress due to travel.1

Social Media

The time off from work or school during the holidays can mean more time to peruse social media. There is mounting research5 showing that spending time on social media negatively impacts our mental and even physical health. This has to do with comparing ourselves to others, distorting reality, feeling excluded from fun experiences, and distracting us from our own emotions.5

The seasonal uptick of people posting “perfect Hallmark holiday” content can certainly be a recipe for comparison, envy, and stress.

Eating and Drinking too Much

Holiday stressors can have us turning to small comforts to feel better. More than 15 percent of Americans say that they change their eating habits during the holidays (by either binging or restricting), and 13 percent say they increase their use of alcohol or nicotine to cope with the stress.1

Unfortunately, these small comforts may help momentarily, but they add to long-term stress by increasing levels of cortisol6

How to Manage Your Holiday Stress

Talk to Someone

Talking about how you feel can help manage negative emotions7. Further, talking to someone who cares about how you feel can help build a stronger bond between you both.7

According to the APA, 70 percent of people feel comfortable discussing their holiday stress with family or friends, though only 41 percent of those people actually do so.

Don’t Numb Your Feelings

As mentioned, some people may turn to alcohol, excessive eating, or additional screen time to manage holiday stress. Although these coping mechanisms might work to numb the underlying feelings for a while, experts say8 that pushing feelings down can cause them to come back and even worsen.

Manage Your Expectations

Basing your holiday expectations on movies and social media can lead to disappointment. Instead, try managing your expectations.

There will probably be conflicts and not everything will go smoothly. During these times, remind yourself that it’s okay if something doesn’t go perfectly. Also, remember that social media posts, even from friends and family, are just the highlights.

Limit Social Media Time

Limiting your social media time during the holidays may not only help manage your expectations but also free up time for healthier activities. For example, going for a walk, journaling, reading, exercising, or talking to a friend can refresh and sustain you.

Be Mindful of What You’re Eating and Drinking

When we’re stressed, the body craves foods high in sugar and fat9, and these sorts of foods can cause weight gain and increase the stress hormone cortisol. Alcohol has also been shown to increase cortisol levels.6

Limiting the amount of sweet, carb-laden treats and alcohol over the holidays can allow you to enjoy holiday goodies without the guilt that comes from overindulging.

Stick to Your Sleep and Exercise Schedule

Sleep is the foundation10 of our mental and physical well-being. It’s not just about getting enough sleep, though; it’s also important to get consistent and regular sleep.10

In the same vein, exercise improves physical and mental health, and it is one of the greatest tools for managing stress11.

You might be tempted to go to bed late and skip your workouts during the holidays, but instead, try to stick to your regular sleep and exercise routines to keep your health in check.

Prioritize What’s Important

It may be helpful for you to sit down and come up with a list of priorities before the holiday season.

Ask yourself questions such as:

 • What do I want to accomplish this holiday season?
 • Who do I want to spend my time with?
 • How do I want to feel?

Getting clear on your desires before the holiday season may help prioritize what’s important when invitations start coming your way.

Set Boundaries

Setting boundaries may mean saying “no” to activities that don’t align with your priorities during the holiday season.

This may also mean setting boundaries with family or friends you’ll be spending time with. One of the big stressors people face during the holidays is “anticipating conflict with family.”1 By setting important boundaries, you could help prevent a conflict.

Take Time for Yourself

If you’re the type of person who’s always putting others before yourself, this one is for you. Instead of saying “yes” to everything that comes your way, ask yourself first, “Do I really want to do this?” “Will this nourish me?” Just pausing long enough to answer questions like that is a good start. Then, say yes or no from there.

Volunteer

Volunteering or being of service to others releases dopamine12, which reduces stress and increases positive, relaxed feelings. During the holidays, 16 percent of Americans choose to volunteer, which helps them reduce their stress levels.1

Volunteering can also give people a greater sense of meaning and appreciation – not to mention it can improve the lives of those you’re helping.

Get Outside

Getting outside into green spaces can help reduce stress levels13. Of course, depending on where you’re located, it may be colder outside during the holidays. However, cooler temperatures may help you relax since hot weather14 is more likely to cause feelings of stress, anger, and irritability.

Practice Mindfulness

One of the best ways to implement more mindfulness into your life is by adopting a daily meditation routine. The APA recommends meditation as a way to reduce stress and anxiety.13

You might also practice mindfully relaxing each of your muscles, one at a time. To do this, lie on your back on a flat surface. Close your eyes if you feel comfortable doing so. Then, focus your attention on one group of muscles at a time. You’ll inhale and contract the muscles for five to 10 seconds and then exhale slowly, consciously relaxing the muscles and releasing tension. Start from the bottom of your body and work your way up.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I control my holiday stress?

There are many ways to control your stress during the holidays, but in general, we recommend sticking to your regular healthy habits as much as possible and, if necessary, introducing some extra self-care. For example, stick to your normal sleep and exercise schedule, consider talking to a friend or family member, and take time to journal or meditate.

Is it normal to feel stressed during the holidays?

Yes, it is totally normal to feel stressed during the holidays. Close to 90 percent of American adults report feeling stressed at least at some point during the holidays.1

Why do the holidays make me anxious?

For many people, the holidays cause anxiety because this time of the year can be filled with social expectations and anxieties, financial and family stressors, loneliness, pressures to eat or drink, and more.

The Silk & Snow Hybrid is a Canadian-made mattress dedicated to providing locally sourced, handmade mattresses at an affordable price. In addition to its all-foam mattress, Silk & Snow now has a hybrid version of their flagship bed. This mattress uses a combination of memory foam layers and individually-pocketed coils.

In this article, I will explain the construction of this mattress and its performance, providing detailed information and evaluations based on my hands-on testing experience.

Pros
The individually wrapped pocket coils are zoned to provide targeted support. Heavier parts of the body, such as the midsection, should receive more support than lighter areas.
The Silk & Snow provides comfort and support for all sleep positions.
Handmade and affordable don’t often go together, but the Silk & Snow Hybrid is a quality mattress at a budget-friendly price.
Cons
Those with restless partners may want to avoid this bed. It doesn’t isolate motion particularly well, which could cause interrupted sleep for people whose bedmate tosses and turns.
The Silk & Snow Hybrid doesn’t sleep exceptionally cool. Those who tend to overheat when they sleep may want to avoid this bed.

Who I Recommend the Silk & Snow Hybrid For:

 • Stomach sleepers – The zoned coils provide targeted support for the midsection. This design feature helps elevate the hips, providing comfortable spinal alignment for stomach sleepers.
 • Sexually active people – The Silk & Snow Hybrid has fantastic bounce, making it easy to reposition, which is why it could be a great choice for sexually active couples.
 • Pressure relief seekers – The soft pillow top and slow-moving foam layers provide cushioning and contouring while the zoned coils give balanced support. The combination of these materials and construction helps eliminate pressure buildup.

Who I Don’t Recommend the Silk & Snow Hybrid For:

 • Those looking for a removable cover – Unlike the all-foam Silk & Snow model, this model doesn’t have a removable cover. Take a look at my Silk and Snow foam mattress review if you want to try that bed instead.
 • Shoppers who want American-made products – Silk & Snow products are proudly made in Canada. If you want to buy a mattress made in the U.S., we’ve got a great list of American-made beds you can check out.

Customer Reviews of the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress

With over 3,500 customer reviews, the Silk & Snow Hybrid has a 4.8 out of 5 rating. Many cite the comfort and supportiveness as pros for this mattress. Although there weren’t many complaints, a recurring one was that the mattress was not as firm as advertised.

Testing the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress

Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology

At Sleep Advisor, we believe the best way to provide you with an accurate mattress evaluation is hands-on testing. Through this testing, I was able to evaluate the Silk & Snow Hybrid for a variety of performance categories.

I also included feedback from other members of our team to get a more thorough understanding of how the Silk & Snow Hybrid does for different body types. While I’m an average-weight sleeper, I had Loren Bullock come in as our lightweight tester for this bed and Spencer Bland as our plus-size tester.

Firmness & Feel

Firmness Scale: 6/10

Mattress Firmness Level 6

Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your body type will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers might experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.

We rate mattress firmness on a 1-10 scale, with 10 being the absolute firmest feel you can get. The Silk & Snow Hybrid received a 6 out of 10 from me. The great news here is that this means the bed has a medium-firm feel, which can appeal to a wide variety of sleepers.

How Does It Feel?

I immediately noticed the softness of the pillow top. Although Silk & Snow doesn’t officially label it as a Euro top, I still that it is because it has a padded, tufted surface for extra cushion and is adhered along the edges for stability. I liked how this bed weaved gentle comfort and balanced support while not being too soft or too hard.

Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types

The Silk & Snow Hybrid is constructed to hold 500 pounds per person, which means it can hold up to 1,000 pounds for couples.

Side Sleepers

 • Lightweight Sleepers – Loren liked the cushioning on this bed and experienced good spine alignment for side sleeping. She felt it was a more comfortable fit than the all-foam version of this bed.
 • Average-Weight Sleepers – There was more sink than I anticipated. Often, I experience less sinkage on hybrid beds. This is important to note because sinking too much can lead to spinal misalignment, so I wouldn’t recommend it for those with lower back pain. However, it has wonderful pressure relief.
 • Heavyweight Sleepers – This is an interesting mattress for heavyweight side sleepers. On the one hand, Spencer experienced a lot of sinking around his midsection, which could lead to lumbar pain. However, he still felt it had a comfortable surface.

Explore: Best Mattress for Side Sleepers

Back Sleepers

 • Lightweight Sleepers – According to Loren, the Silk & Snow Hybrid is a comfy, even-keeled mattress for lightweight back sleepers. The cushioned top provided comfort, and she felt some pressure relief around her midsection.
 • Average-Weight Sleepers – Although I noticed some slight sinkage at the hips, the cushiony pillow top meant my spinal alignment wasn’t compromised. I appreciated how evenly my weight was distributed.
 • Heavyweight Sleepers – Spencer experienced more sinking while on his back compared to side and stomach testing. However, he still felt the bed gave him good lumbar support and a comfortable sleep surface.

Browse: Best Mattress for Back Sleepers

Stomach Sleepers

 • Lightweight Sleepers – Based on Loren’s experience, this bed is soft enough that lightweight stomach sleepers should find it comfortable and firm enough to offer balanced support.
 • Average-Weight Sleepers – I LOVE the Silk & Snow Hybrid so much for average-weight stomach sleepers that I am considering getting one for myself. The coils kept my hips elevated and spine aligned while I luxuriated in the pressure-relieving cushion of the pillow top.
 • Heavyweight Sleepers – Some heavyweight stomach sleepers may experience a little sink around their midsection, but it shouldn’t be much. Overall, though, Spencer preferred the Silk & Snow foam model to this one.

Discover: Best Mattress for Stomach Sleepers

Pressure Relief

4/5

I expected this bed’s memory foam option to provide better pressure relief than the hybrid. However, I was wrong about that. The pillow top makes this mattress softer, and this contributes heavily to its ability to relieve pressure. The cozy foam contours pressure points to provide some welcome relief.

Is the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress Good for Pain Relief?

The Silk & Snow does an excellent job of relieving pain. The pillow top brings substantial cushioning, and the sturdy, individually wrapped coils provide a well-balanced distribution of weight. By keeping the body both gently contoured and elevated, there is little worry about pressure buildup or awkward spinal alignment for most sleepers.

Back Pain

Although there was some sinkage around the midsection, particularly for heavyweight sleepers, it wasn’t that noticeable or problematic. There is ample pressure relief and support that should do an excellent job of preventing and alleviating back pain.

Hip Pain

The soft, comfortable pillow top, mid-level firmness, and supportive coils elevate most sleepers properly. These features can help prevent the midsection from sinking, which means that there should be little to no pressure buildup around the hip.

Shoulder Pain

The shoulder is a small area that often absorbs much of our weight when we are sleeping, and this can lead to pain. However, the Silk & Snow Hybrid should do an impressive job of alleviating this pain thanks to its soft pillow top, medium firmness, and even weight distribution.

Looking for more pain-specific beds?

Support

4/5

The sturdy, zoned coils in the Silk & Snow Hybrid provide ample lumbar support for stomach and back sleeping. Side sleepers may sink into the mattress a little. Although this wasn’t a significant issue, I deducted one point because it could exacerbate existent back pain for side sleepers.

Motion Isolation

3/5

In addition to hands-on testing, I used a seismograph app to chart and evaluate how well motion was isolated to the side of the mattress where it was generated. Foam layers typically absorb motion well, so I was a bit surprised that I felt as much motion as I did. Those with restless partners may want to find an alternative to the Silk & Snow Hybrid. Our Best Memory Foam Mattress list is a good place to find a mattress that isolates motion well.

Dog Testing on the Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress
Expert Tested, Dog Approved!

Temperature Regulation / Cooling

3/5

The open structure of the coils promotes airflow that helps dissipate body heat. However, other than that, I didn’t detect any cooling properties. That said, I also didn’t notice a temperature spike when I was testing. The Silk & Snow Hybrid may not be the best choice for particularly hot sleepers, but those who don’t get particularly hot during the night may not be bothered by it.

Bounce

5/5

I was impressed with the bounce and responsiveness of the Silk & Snow Hybrid, giving it a 5 out of 5. The surface of the bed bounced back almost immediately. In addition to this mattress quickly responding to weight, it also supports you as you go. Combination sleepers and sexually active couples should appreciate how easily they can reposition.

Edge Support

5/5

The coils and extra firm perimeter of the Silk & Snow Hybrid help prevent sinking when you’re sitting or lying near the edge of the bed, which is why it earned a perfect score here. This feature makes this bed a great choice for those who may need a boost getting out of bed or couples who want to spread out without concern of falling out of bed.

Performance for Couples

4/5

Performance categories such as bounce, motion isolation, edge support, and temperature regulation are important features for couples to consider. The Silk & Snow Hybrid excels in bounce and edge support but is average when it comes to preventing motion transfer and keeping sleepers cool. I recommend this bed for some couples, but if you have a restless partner or sleep particularly hot, this may not be an optimal choice.

Preference-Based Features

Antimicrobial Cover

The Silk & Snow uses innovative material that prevents bacterial growth.

Euro Top

Silk & Snow doesn’t call their cushioned topper a Euro top, but it has all the markings of one.

Locally Sourced Materials

Silk & Snow uses foam, coils, and fabric made by manufacturers in Toronto.

Adjustable Base Compatible

The Silk & Snow Hybrid is compatible with a variety of bases, including adjustable bed frames

Construction: What’s Inside the Silk & Snow Hybrid?

All sizes of the Silk & Snow Hybrid are 12 inches tall and weigh between 61 pounds for a Twin and 124 pounds for a King.

 • The cover is made with antimicrobial polyester that protects sleepers from bacteria.
 • Directly under the cover, there is a 1-inch layer of quilted foam that is infused with cooling gel and hollow fibers that help keep sleepers cool.
 • The third layer is 2 inches of high-density memory foam that encourages pressure relief.
 • Beneath the memory foam, you’ll find 600-1,200 individual coils (depending on mattress size). This section is zoned to provide a firmer middle and balanced support.

The Silk & Snow has an extra firm perimeter that reinforces the structure and prevents sagging when sitting or lying near the edge of the bed.

Unboxing & Off-Gassing

The Silk & Snow Hybrid arrives compressed and rolled in a box. This delivery method means that your bed will be conveniently placed on your doorstep, but given the weight of these mattresses, you may want someone to help you bring it inside.

Once inside, you will remove it from the box and place it on the foundation. Your Silk & Snow Hybrid should immediately start to take shape. While it is inflating, you may notice a chemical smell. This is known as off-gassing. Although it may be unpleasant, it is not abnormal. Place the mattress in a well-ventilated area to help this smell dissipate more quickly.

Certifications

 • The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

My Verdict

After testing the Silk & Snow Hybrid, I am considering getting one for my home. This is a standout mattress that comes at a very affordable price.

I was particularly fond of how well the Silk & Snow Hybrid supported my hips. Also, this mattress is incredibly responsive, making it a great fit for combination sleepers, sexually active couples, and anyone else who needs to easily reposition on their bed. I wish that it had better motion isolation and cooling, but overall, I thought this was an exceptional bed. The Silk & Snow Hybrid earned an overall score of 4 out of 5.

Tempur-Pedic is a long-standing, respected mattress brand. Their TEMPUR-Cloud® mattress is available as an all-foam option as well as a hybrid. In this review, I’ll be covering the Medium Hybrid model.

What sets this bed apart from its all-foam alternative and other similar hybrid mattresses? Of course, the big selling point over the foam version is the addition of an innerspring unit, which gives this mattress the edge for buoyancy and responsiveness. Keep reading for more on what I found from testing this bed in our mattress studio.

Pros
The soft memory foam is gentle on the hips and shoulders, making it great for side sleepers.
The TEMPUR-Cloud® Hybrid is one of the most budget-friendly Tempur-Pedic mattresses.
Combination sleepers and sexually active couples should enjoy this hybrid mattress’s responsiveness that makes it easier to adjust positions.
Cons
The lack of edge support may make it difficult for couples to utilize the entire sleeping surface. It may also prevent those with mobility issues from getting out of bed easily.
Despite the addition of coils in its construction, which usually helps regulate temperature, this mattress sleeps hot.

Who I Recommend the TEMPUR-Cloud® Hybrid For:

 • Sleepers who wake easily – I jumped up and down on this bed, and it registered barely any motion transfer. This means that if you share the bed with someone, you’re less likely to feel them move around in the middle of the night from your side of the bed.
 • Side sleepers – The top foam layer gently cradles the hips and shoulders, but it is also supportive enough for great spinal alignment. This makes the TEMPUR-Cloud® an optimal pick for side sleepers.
 • Memory foam fans – Those who love the slow-moving characteristics of memory foam should enjoy the TEMPUR-Cloud®.

Who I Don’t Recommend the TEMPUR-Cloud® Hybrid For:

 • Those who sleep hot – Often, beds with an innerspring unit, like the TEMPUR-Cloud® Hybrid, will have some airflow, but don’t expect much from this one. It didn’t score well for temperature regulation. If you sleep hot, consider our list of the best cooling beds instead.
 • Heavyweight sleepers – Heavier people are likely to find this bed too soft for proper support. We had a plus-size tester try out this bed as well, and based on his feedback, I think there are better mattresses out there for heavyweight sleepers.

Customer Reviews of the TEMPUR-Cloud® Mattress

With over 1,600 reviews, the Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Cloud® Hybrid rates 4.6 stars out of 5 on Tempur-Pedic’s website. Customers admire the TEMPUR-Cloud® for its pressure relief, but some find its lack of edge support to be a disadvantage.

As part of my testing process for the TEMPUR-Cloud® Hybrid, I evaluated this mattress for specific categories that are important to consumers, such as cooling, bounce, edge support, motion isolation, support, and pressure relief. I also used these and other details to help assess whether this bed is a good fit for most couples.

I also enlisted help of my colleagues Loren Bullock and Spencer Bland to test the TEMPUR-Cloud® with me so we could see how it does for different weight groups. Loren served as our lightweight tester, I was the average-weight tester, and Spencer was our heavyweight tester.

Firmness & Feel

Firmness Scale: 7/10 (Medium Hybrid)

Mattress Firmness Level 7

Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your body type will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers might experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.

Our Sleep Advisor firmness scale ranges from 1 to 10, with 10 being the firmest feel. The TEMPUR-Cloud® Medium Hybrid is fairly firm, especially when compared to other Tempur-Pedic mattresses such as the ProBreeze® or the LuxeBreeze®. I gave this mattress a 7 out of 10 for firmness, which means it only slightly firmer than what we consider to be medium-firm.

How Does It Feel?

This mattress felt pretty squishy when I moved around on it, and it took the memory foam a while to spring back to its original shape. Although it is soft and contouring, the lower layers of firmer foam prevent sleepers from sinking too far into the bed. Furthermore, I loved how this mattress gently cradled my hips and shoulders.

Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types

Tempur-Pedic mattresses don’t have a weight limit, but their foundations have a 400-pound weight limit for Twin, Twin XL, Full, and split sizes. Queens and larger sizes have an 800-pound limit.

Side Sleepers

 • Lightweight Sleepers – Loren liked the pressure relief from this bed and said the firmness level was good for her spine alignment.
 • Average-Weight Sleepers – My pressure points felt cushioned on the TEMPUR-Cloud® Hybrid and I remained supported.
 • Heavyweight Sleepers – Overall, Spencer felt comfortable while on his side. He experienced some sinking but not as bad as other positions.

Explore: Best Mattress for Side Sleepers

Back Sleepers

 • Lightweight Sleepers – Loren liked the gentle cushioning from the TEMPUR-Cloud® Hybrid and added that it was supportive without feeling overly rigid.
 • Average-Weight Sleepers – I felt a good amount of sink when I was on my back. I would have liked to have been more supported, and I think that this could have been achieved with a pocket coil interior.
 • Heavyweight Sleepers – Spencer found himself sinking way too much while on his back to the point of feeling “sandwiched” in the mattress.

Browse: Best Mattress for Back Sleepers

Stomach Sleepers

 • Lightweight Sleepers – According to Loren, this bed’s even-keeled firmness kept her spine nicely aligned for stomach sleeping.
 • Average-Weight Sleepers – Although my lower back wasn’t in pain, I wasn’t thrilled about how this mattress made it feel. However, I found it to be supportive and welcoming for the rest of my body.
 • Heavyweight Sleepers – Our heavyweight tester noticed some tension around his lower back when sleeping on their stomach. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, but there are better beds for plus-size stomach sleepers available.

Pressure Relief

4/5

The memory foam and coils of the TEMPUR-Cloud® provide an almost pressure-free sleeping experience. I noted how much relief the weight-bearing areas of my body, such as my shoulders and hips, received on this mattress. The gentle contouring of the memory foam and the supportiveness of the base layer of coils should make this bed a dream for side sleepers, in particular.

Is the Tempur-CLOUD® Hybrid Mattress Good for Pain Relief?

The answer to this question is yes — and no. Certain body types and sleep positions should find that the Tempur-CLOUD® Hybrid is helpful for pain relief. However, others may not get the kind of support they need to alleviate pain.

Back Pain

Average-weight and heavyweight back and stomach sleepers may experience some back issues when sleeping on this mattress. This is mainly because they could find themselves sinking too far into the mattress. If they sink too much, this could lead to awkward spinal alignment, which may cause back pain. If you’re concerned about this, explore our picks for the best mattresses for back pain.

Hip Pain

For many sleepers, the TEMPUR-Cloud® Hybrid could helpful for hip pain relief. The gentle contouring of the foam and the balanced support of the coils propel this bed to the top.

Shoulder Pain

Similar to hip pain, this bed should do a great job of easing shoulder pain. The memory foam was fantastic at cradling my shoulders, which can help manage pressure in this area.

Support

4/5

I have an average build and was held aloft on the TEMPUR-Cloud® Hybrid. When sleeping on my side, I felt incredibly comfortable and supported. However, there was some sinkage when I was on my back and stomach. It wasn’t particularly worrisome, and I didn’t feel that my spine was in danger of slipping out of alignment.

With that being said, I don’t know if this is the best bet for heavier back and stomach sleepers who are looking for a supportive mattress.

Motion Isolation

4/5

Sleeping with a restless pet or partner can certainly cause you to lose sleep. If you are being kept awake by your bedmate’s tossing and turning, you will want a bed that isolates their motion.

The TEMPUR-Cloud® Hybrid did an amazing job of prohibiting motion from transferring from one side of the bed to the other. Even when I jumped up and down on this bed, there was barely any motion detected on our seismograph test.

Temperature Regulation / Cooling

2/5

After memory foam hit the market, it developed a reputation for causing sleepers to overheat. Many manufacturers have since implemented a variety of cooling techniques.

Unfortunately, the TEMPUR-Cloud® Hybrid’s foam layers trap heat; it was not cool to the touch, and I felt warm while I was lying on it. The open structure of the coils does allow some air to escape, but hot sleepers will likely want to check out a bed with better cooling properties, such as Tempur-Pedic’s ProBreeze® mattress, which I really liked for cooling.

Bounce

4/5

I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of bounce and responsiveness from this bed. Memory foam is typically not known for these characteristics, but thanks to the firmness of the foam and coils in the hybrid construction, the TEMPUR-Cloud® Hybrid has a faster bounce-back than many other memory foam mattresses. I also found it to be more responsive than beds in the Tempur-Pedic Breeze® collection.

A bouncy, repsonsive mattress is helpful because it can help to move around easier. If you’re someone who loathes feeling ‘stuck’ in a mattress when you try to move, then this is a good feature for you.

Edge Support

2/5

How well a mattress secures you when you are sitting or lying close to the perimeter is known as edge support. This feature allows you to get in and out of bed more easily and makes it easier for couples to utilize the whole sleeping surface.

Unfortunately, with the TEMPUR-Cloud® Hybrid, I felt as if I were going to slip off when I was sitting on the edge. Furthermore, I didn’t feel secure when I was lying near the outside.

Performance for Couples

3/5

The TEMPUR-Cloud® Hybrid’s motion isolation capabilities make it an excellent pick if you have a partner who tosses and turns. Likewise, the bounce this bed provides should make it easier for sexually active couples to reposition. However, its lack of edge support and less-than-stellar cooling capabilities meant that I had to deduct points in this category.

Unboxing & Off-Gassing

The TEMPUR-Cloud® arrives compressed and rolled in a box. While this delivery method is convenient, the box is heavy, and you may need help moving it.

Once you have it where you need it, simply open the box and unroll it. It should immediately start to take shape. You may notice a slight chemical smell during this time. This is known as off-gassing, and while it is unpleasant, it’s common for bed-in-a-box mattresses. Place your bed in a well-ventilated room to help the smell dissipate faster.

Certifications

 • CertiPUR-US® certified – The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified.

Noteworthy Updates:

 • Tempur-Pedic has donated more than $100,000,000 worth of mattresses to military personnel and disaster relief efforts.
 • Additionally, the company is committed to eco-friendly polices and reached its goal of zero landfill waste for its European and USA facilities in 2022. They are also on track to be totally carbon-neutral by by 2040.

Coupons, Trials, Warranties, and Shipping

What is the average life of a Tempur-Pedic mattresses?

Tempur-Pedic uses durable, quality materials, and their mattresses should last between eight and 10 years with proper care and maintenance.

How soft are Tempur-Pedic mattresses?

Tempur-Pedic mattresses come in a variety of firmness levels. Depending on the model you choose, you can pick between soft, medium, and firm feel. The TEMPUR-Cloud® Hybrid I tested is a Medium model, though it felt more like a slightly firm bed to me.

Are Tempur-Pedic mattresses worth the cost?

Tempur-Pedic mattresses are made with quality and durable materials, but that also means they have a higher price tag. However, if you have the money in your budget, Tempur-Pedic products should be a solid investment. I would just make sure you get the specific bed best-suited for your needs.

My Verdict

Tempur-Pedic is a luxury brand, but the TEMPUR-Cloud® Hybrid is a more budget-friendly option from this long-standing company.

This mattress is a side sleeper’s oasis, but it wasn’t as reliable for stomach and back sleeping. For this reason, I think this bed is more limiting to who it could work for. Also, hot sleepers and couples looking to utilize the entire sleeping surface of the bed may want to avoid this mattress, but again, if you’re a side sleeper, I think it’s worth considering. Overall, the TEMPUR-Cloud® Hybrid received a 3.4 out of 5.

]]>

Self-care can take many forms, whether it’s eating healthily, exercising regularly, meditating, journaling, or just checking in with yourself. One of the most important ways to practice self-care, though, is to get quality sleep.

The reason sleep is such a powerful part of self-care is that it impacts our physical, mental, and emotional health. We’ll go into these details and share some easy tips to help you achieve better overall health through sleep.

Why Is Good Sleep a Part of Self-Care?

Consistent and sound sleep is a big part of self-care because it affects our mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Let’s look at these three components in depth.

Physical Health and Sleep

Sleep is critical for your physical health because it impacts multiple aspects of it1. More specifically, sleep heals and repairs your heart and blood vessels, monitors your appetite and insulin levels, and supports a healthy immune system. Conversely, sleep deprivation can negatively affect these functions. For example, someone who is sleep-deprived can have a harder time trying to fight off a cold.1

Additionally, sleep supports the release of the growth hormone, which explains why children and adolescents2 need more sleep than adults.1

Mental Health and Sleep

A 2021 meta-analysis3 found a causal relationship between sleep and mental health, meaning that participants showed improved mental health symptoms with better sleep quality. Some areas of mental health that were evaluated included depression, anxiety, and stress. In sum, this meta-analysis reveals that good sleep can help improve mental health symptoms.3

Emotional Health and Sleep

Being sleep-deprived can heighten your emotions4, which makes you more susceptible to stressors. Specifically, our negative reactions are stronger when we’re tired and sleep-deprived, which may manifest as irritability, frustration, or sadness.4 You can probably think of a time when you didn’t get enough sleep, and minor inconveniences throughout your day seemed to bother you more than they typically would.

Benefits of Good Sleep

 • Improves memory and learningAccording to experts5, sleep helps with learning new things and strengthening our memory. More specifically, they say the non-rapid eye movement stages of sleep (NREM) are especially important for learning.5
 • Reduces stress levels – Research has found an association between sleep deprivation and increased stress levels. Specifically, a study6 of medical students who worked 24-hour shifts found that participants showed increased stress levels after being sleep-deprived due to their long shifts.
 • Helps maintain a healthy weight – Sleep duration and quality are important for maintaining or losing weight. A 2022 study7 reported that increased quality and quantity of sleep boosted the chances of losing weight by 33 percent.
 • Reduces risk of heart diseaseRecent research8 found that adults aged 58-78 who had irregular sleep patterns were more at risk for heart disease than their peers who had good sleep patterns.
 • Reduces mental health symptoms – Experts have found that better sleep quality is associated with improved mental health. A specific example from this research is that people with insomnia are more likely than those with this sleep disorder to experience higher levels of depression and anxiety.3
 • Strengthens your immune systemResearch from 20219 explains that regular sleep helps maintain homeostatic immune functioning, which helps fight off infection and disease.
 • Helps regulate emotions – Being sleep deprived can heighten your emotional sensitivity, so getting enough sleep every night should help you maintain a more steady emotional balance.4

How Does Self-Care Improve Sleep?

Self-care combines practices to boost our physical and mental health. The great news here is that many healthy habits for good sleep overlap with common self-care practices. We’ll discuss some self-care sleep tips below and explain why these self-care practices can positively impact your sleep.

Self-Care Sleep Tips

1. Exercise Regularly

Exercise is a great way to practice self-care. Physical activity10 helps manage your weight, reduce the risk of disease, and strengthen your body. Not only that, but exercise can improve your cognition11 and positively impact your brain function.

Additionally, research has shown that physical activity can improve sleep quality and duration12, along with helping people fall asleep more quickly.

2. Eat a Healthy Diet

Good nutrition13 lowers the risk of serious health problems and helps keep your body physically fit. With regards to sleep, a 2020 study14 revealed that foods containing tryptophan, phytonutrients, and melatonin can help improve sleep quality.

Some foods that contain tryptophan15 are beef, pork, dairy, whole grains, nuts, and seeds. Foods containing phytonutrients16 include many fruits and vegetables. Finally, some foods with high melatonin17 levels are fish, eggs, and tart cherries18

3. Don’t Eat Too Late at Night

Health experts suggest that you stop eating about three hours19 before you go to sleep. This time frame gives your body enough time to digest the food before bedtime. Further, recent research20 has demonstrated that eating within that three-hour window is associated with at least one nighttime awakening.

4. Manage Stress

Being stressed can take a toll on us physically and mentally. To manage stress, the CDC21 suggests that you meditate, exercise, eat well, and get good sleep.

While good sleep can help lower your stress levels, did you know that managing your stress can help you sleep better, too? High stress levels can make falling and staying asleep more difficult22. Stress and sleep deprivation have the potential to become a vicious cycle; if you’re not sleeping enough, your body’s stress hormone levels rise, which can disrupt your sleep even more.22

5. Limit Caffeine and Alcohol

While you may already know that drinking caffeine at night can harm your sleep schedule, you might not have realized that drinking caffeine in the afternoon is not ideal either. Caffeine can stay in your system for up to six hours23, so try to drink your last cup of coffee earlier in the day so you don’t disrupt your nighttime rest.

Additionally, a 2019 study24 found that alcohol and nicotine use in the evenings were both associated with lower quality sleep compared to sleep without the use of these substances. In hopes of improving your sleep quality and taking care of yourself, avoid or limit alcohol and nicotine use, especially in the evenings.

6. Have a Relaxing Nightly Routine

Having a relaxing nighttime routine is a way to take care of yourself because it allows you to unwind after a long day and prepare for a good night’s rest. If you have a consistent routine that you practice every night, you’ll begin to condition your brain and body25 to feel sleepy around your bedtime.

Some practices we suggest for a relaxing bedtime routine are reading, drinking non-caffeinated tea, practicing yoga, listening to calming music, taking a warm bath, or meditating. All of these practices should help to calm your body, reducing your stress hormone levels and promoting easier, better sleep.22

7. Avoid Electronics Before Bed

Electronic devices use blue light26, which can suppress your melatonin levels and shift your circadian rhythm. As a result, this can make it more challenging to fall asleep when it’s time for bed.26 Instead of using electronics before bed, we recommend reading a book or listening to music at night to help yourself wind down.

8. Keep a Consistent Sleep Schedule

If you go to sleep around the same time each night, your body will begin to start feeling sleepy around that time each night.25 The American Academy of Sleep Medicine27 recommends going to sleep and waking up around the same time every day, even on the weekends.

Along with going to sleep at a consistent time, getting the proper amount of sleep is just as important. Sleep health experts28 suggest that adults sleep between seven and nine hours nightly. Also, keeping a set schedule can help ensure you set aside the appropriate amount of time to get enough hours of shuteye.

9. Invest in a Quality Mattress

Investing in a good mattress is another great way to prioritize your sleep and wellness. There are top-quality mattresses for all types of sleepers and their varying needs. If you haven’t bought a mattress in a while, check out our in-depth guide with tips on choosing a mattress to help you narrow down your options.

10. Make Your Bedroom Comfortable and Stress-Free

Our last suggestion to help you have a better night’s rest is to keep your bedroom comfortable and stress-free. The ideal temperature to sleep in is between 60 and 67 degrees Fahrenheit29. Furthermore, keeping your room dark and quiet can further facilitate better sleep. While a quiet room helps eliminate distractions, keeping out light can help boost melatonin production to help promote sleep.26

We also recommend that you keep your bedroom clean and tidy. A study found that household chaos30 was associated with negative socio-emotional outcomes, including increased stress levels. When your stress levels are higher, it’s more challenging to sleep well.22

If you’re looking for an eco-friendly latex mattress with a soft feel, I suggest you check out the Nest Finch mattress. Nest Bedding was founded in 2011 and was one of the first brands to sell the bed-in-a-box design. Their Finch mattress is made from quality materials and comes with a Lifetime Renewal Exchange deal.

I tested the Medium Nest Finch mattress with one of my colleagues, Loren Bullock, and together we compiled information about the bed. In this review, I’ll share what we found during our testing, as well as important construction details, the pros and cons of this bed, and who I’d recommend it to.

Pros
The Nest Finch is available as either a Medium or Firm version, which is great for buyers looking for a specific level of firmness.
Since this mattress is fully latex, heat shouldn’t build up.
The Nest Finch is very buoyant, which is fantastic for combination sleepers and those with limited mobility. You shouldn’t feel stuck in one position or like you’re sinking.
Cons
While the Nest Finch is not as expensive as some luxury mattresses, it isn’t necessarily the best option for budget shoppers. Before any discount, the Queen size costs $2,349.
This mattress doesn’t come with memory foam. So, if you prefer memory foam in your mattress, then you’ll want a memory foam bed specially.

Who I Recommend the Nest Finch For:

 • Hot sleepers – Latex mattresses typically expel heat, keeping the mattress cool throughout the night. If you get hot while sleeping, the Nest Finch is a great choice as it is a fully latex mattress.
 • People with limited mobility – People with mobility issues can benefromt from a mattress with high bounce and responsiveness like the Nest Finch. This bounce will help you easily get on and off the bed and move from one position to another without feeling stuck.
 • Back sleepers – Back sleepers, especially those of light or average weights, should find the Nest Finch to be really comfortable. I’d say it is firm enough to support a healthy spine alignment but is still cushioned enough for pressure relief in this position.

Who I Don’t Recommend the Nest Finch For:

 • Side sleepers with shoulder pain – While lying on my side I noticed some sinking around my shoulders due to the mattress’ medium firmness. I can imagine this sinkage would be uncomfortable for people who experience shoulder pain.
 • Heavier folks – Since I rated the Nest Finch a 4 out of 10 for firmness, I don’t recommend this mattress for heavier folks. A more firm mattress should provide more spine support and overall comfort for heavier people.
 • Stomach sleepers – Similarly to heavier folks, stomach sleepers will probably feel more supported by a mattress that is firmer than the Nest Finch in Medium. In this case, I recommend trying out the Firm version of the Finch or visiting our top mattress picks for stomach sleepers.

Customer Reviews of the Nest Finch Mattress

Customers on the Nest Bedding website give the Nest Finch mattress an average rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars. Some aspects of the mattress that customers particularly enjoyed are its cooling qualities, removable cover, and pressure relief. Some customers did note that the mattress is very heavy and others said that it was too soft for their preference.

Testing the Nest Finch Mattress

Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology

At Sleep Advisor, we test mattresses in various ways so we can get the most comprehensive information about each bed. Along with looking at specific performance features like cooling, edge support, bounce, and motion isolation, we pay attention to pressure relief and support.

How a mattress feels is also subjective to your weight, so I tested the bed as average-weight sleeper and had Loren test it as our lighweight sleeper. This way, it gives us even more details of how this bed can accommodate different body types.

Firmness & Feel

Firmness Scale: 4/10

Mattress Firmness Level 4

Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your body type will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers might experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.

At Sleep Advisor, we rate mattresses on a firmness scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the most firm. I would rate the medium version of the Nest Finch as a 4 out of 10, which means it’s quite soft.

The surface of the mattress is plush with a squishy pillow top. While the bed is pretty soft, it is still supportive enoughfor because of the bouncy latex material.

How Does It Feel?

The Nest Finch mattress is soft and cloudlike with a squishy surface. When lying on the Nest Finch, the latex contoured to my body nicely, providing a subtle pushback. However, the cover didn’t feel cool to the touch.

Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types

While the total weight that the Nest Finch can support will depend on the size of the bed, Nest says that the Queen-size Finch can comfortably support up to 800 pounds.

Side Sleepers

 • Lightweight Sleepers – Loren, our lightweight mattress tester for the Finch, thinks that lightweight side sleepers will sleep very comfortably on this mattress. She felt like her spine was aligned properly and experienced pressure relief around her hips and shoulders. The mattress was soft enough for her to comfortably sleep on her side.
 • Average-Weight Sleepers – As an average-weight mattress tester, I really enjoyed the Nest Finch when lying on my side. The latex provided great cushioning for pressure points. There was a little bit of sinking by my shoulders, but I think that could be remedied with the right pillow.
 • Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavyweight side sleepers may find this mattress to be a little bit too soft, especially if there’s too much sinkage around pressure points. While side sleepers typically like a softer bed, heavyweight side sleepers may need something slightly more firm to maintain enough spine support. Heavyweight side sleepers might want to check out the Firm version of the Nest Finch instead.

Back Sleepers

 • Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight back sleepers should find the Nest Finch suitable for their needs. Loren felt that the bed provided ample cushioning and she still felt supported. Since this latex mattress is so responsive, Loren added that she felt lifted and not as though she was sinking too much into the mattress.
 • Average-Weight Sleepers – When lying on my back, it felt buoyant and responsive but still comfortable and not like I was on a trampoline. I would recommend this bed to average-weight back sleepers.
 • Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavyweight back sleepers may enjoy this bed, but it will ultimately come down to personal preference. There is a pretty even weight distribution across the bed and it can support up to 800 pounds. However, you may feel like this mattress is too soft, in which case the Firm model might be better.

Stomach Sleepers

 • Lightweight Sleepers – Stomach sleepers will probably find the Nest Finch in Medium to be too soft. Even lightweight sleepers might feel like their hips are sinking too much and that their spine is not lifted enough.
 • Average-Weight Sleepers – Similarly to lightweight people, I think this bed is just too soft for average-weight stomach sleepers. I didn’t feel as lifted as I wanted to be.
 • Heavyweight Sleepers – Stomach sleepers and heavyweight sleepers both typically prefer a firmer mattress for extra support. Heavyweight stomach sleepers will most likely find that this Nest Finch far too soft.

Pressure Relief

4/5

The latex in the Finch did a wonderful job of contouring my body, which is helpful for pressure relief. The mattress provides a soft pushback that bridges the gap between comfort and support for those sensitive areas.

Is the Nest Finch Mattress Good for Pain Relief?

Overall, I think the Nest Finch mattress could be good for pain relief, but its success in relieving pain will ultimately depend on your specific pain, body type, and sleeping position.

Back Pain

The Finch is an excellent mattress for back pain relief. This mattress could be especially helpful for back sleepers since it’s comfortable and supportive for a healthy spine alignment. That said, it’s not supportive enough for stomach sleeping and could wind up worsening lower back pain if the hips dip too low.

Hip Pain

This mattress can be a good choice for people with hip pain since it contains latex to help with pressure relief. However, if you are a stomach sleeper with hip pain, the Nest Finch may be too soft for you. You’ll likely feel like your hips are sinking too much into the mattress, which may worsen hip pain.

Shoulder Pain

If you experience shoulder pain, you may dislike this mattress. When lying on my side, there was some sinking around my shoulders, and I think that for someone with pre-existing shoulder pain, this sinkage is not ideal and could cause further discomfort.

Support

4/5

This mattress provides really good support, which is important for maitning spine alignment. When testing this mattress, my shoulders sank slightly, but I generally felt supported. That said, it’s not ideal for support when it comes to stomach sleeping since people of all sizes won’t be enough lifting in the midsection.

Motion Transfer

4/5

The Nest Finch’s motion isolation is pretty good. The density of the latex layers mostly withheld movement. Even so, I still felt some motion transfer when Loren was getting in and out of the bed. Motion isolation is an important factor to consider if you share a bed with a partner. For even better motion isolation, though, take a look at our favortie memory foam mattresses.

Temperature Regulation / Cooling

4/5

Since this mattress is entirely latex, it does well at keeping heat from building up, which is good news if you’re someone looking for a cooler bed to sleep on. However, the Finch didn’t feel cool to the touch, so that could be a drawback if you’re in search of something with strong cooling at the surface. You can check out more of our picks for the best cooling mattresses.

Bounce

5/5

The Nest Finch mattress has fantastic bounce. It’s easy to move around on, which is exactly what a latex hybrid mattress should be. You may be looking for a buoyant, responsive mattress if you have limited mobility, are a combination sleeper, or are sexually active.

Learn More: Best Mattress for Sex

Edge Support

3/5

This mattress has mediocre edge support, which can be a drawback for couples who like to spread out to the edges of the bed or people who have trouble getting in and out of bed. Laying at the edge of the edge is fine, but I was not able to sit on the edge of the bed without sliding off. Since the pillow top is fairly thick, there is quite a bit of sink near the edges of the bed.

Performance for Couples

4/5

There are certain characteristics that couples can benefit from in a mattress, including menial motion transfer, cooling, some bounce, and good edge support. Not only does the Nest Finch bed excel in bounce, but it also has pretty good motion isolation, which means couples should not feel each other tossing and turning throughout the night. They may, however, be disrupted when their partner gets in and out of bed. Another drawback is the averag eedge support on this bed, which may make it harder to spread out. That said, I think this best had plenty of nice attributes for couples.

Plus, if you want a King or California King Nest Finch, you have the option to purchase a “dual split” firmness. This means that each side of the bed can be a different firmness level, catering to each partner’s needs more closely.

Preference-Based Features

Lifetime Renewal Exchange (LRE)

Nest Bedding provides a perk for their customers called the Lifetime Renewal Exchange (LRE). With the LRE, you can renew your mattress one time, whether it’s during the first 365 nights or many years down the line. This renewal consists of receiving a brand-new comfort layer for free. Also, the LRE is sustainable because, instead of replacing the entire mattress, you only have to replace the comfort layer, which can reduce mattress waste in landfills.

Family Owned and Made in the USA

Nest bedding is a family owned business that prides themselves on manufacturing

products in the U.S.

Eco-Friendly Materials

Nest uses eco-friendly materials in their mattresses. For instance, the mattress cover is made with organic cotton and Joma Wool®.

Construction: What’s Inside the Nest Finch Mattress?

The Nest Finch mattress is 10.5 inches tall and is topped with a removable foam cover. This mattress cover is made of stretch cotton and eco-flex quilting, which accounts for the cloud-like, plush feel of the bed.

 • Below the pillow top, there’s a 3-inch layer of natural talalay latex, which accounts for the mattress’ responsiveness, motion isolation, and cooling qualities. This layer is where Nest Bedding customizes the firmness level of their different mattresses; depending on whether you purchase the Medium or Firm version of the Nest Finch, this layer will feel different.
 • The base of the mattress is a 6-inch layer of natural talalay latex, which is much more firm than the layer above. This firm layer acts as a supportive base for the mattress and for you while you sleep. A firm base layer of a mattress not only helps structurally, but also increases durability and longevity.

Unboxing & Off-Gassing

When unboxing your mattress, Nest suggests you allow 12 to 24 hours for the mattress to fully expand. There may be a minimal off-gassing scent when you first unbox the mattress, but Nest airs out foam and latex in their factory prior to shipping the mattresses to you, which decreases the degree of off-gassing.

Certifications

 • CertiPUR-US® certified – The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified.

Noteworthy Updates:

 • The most noteworthy update that Nest Bedding has made to this mattress is changing its name. This bed was formerly called the Natural Hybrid Latex Mattress and is now called the Finch. According to the Nest Bedding website, nothing about this mattress has changed other than its name.

Coupons, Trials, Warranties, and Shipping

 • Shipping – Nest provides free shipping in the continental U.S. and shipping typically takes between three and eight business days. The mattress will be delivered to your door.
 • White Glove Delivery – If you would like white glove delivery for your Nest mattress, you should call +1(888)992-2001 to schedule. The Nest Bedding website does not clearly state whether or not this service is free of charge.
 • Trial – Nest Bedding provides a 365-night trial period in which you can exchange or return your mattress if you’re not satisfied. The company does ask that you try out the mattress for at least 30 nights before asking to exchange or return the item.
 • Warranty – There is a limited lifetime warranty on Nest mattresses, which covers defective mattresses purchased online or in Nest Bedding stores.
 • Return Policy – You may return your Nest Finch mattress within the 365-night trial period after the first 30 nights. Nest offers free returns during this period.

My Verdict

The Nest Finch mattress has many great qualities, whether it be the excellent responsiveness, the eco-friendly design, or the great balance between support and pressure relief. However, this soft mattress isn’t the best option for stomach sleepers or heavier people since it’s likely not supportive for these groups. However, don’t forget they have this bed in Firm, which could be a great solution if you’re still interested in the Finch.

I do think this mattress is a solid option for some people, especially hot sleepers, and light to average-weight side, back, and combination sleepers. The latex is responsive to pressure points and should still support your spine. Best of all, Nest Bedding’s 365-night trial period is a fantastic way to try out the Finch bed without making a serious financial commitment just yet. This mattress earned an overall score of 4 out of 5.

I’ve tested many neck pillows, but the Cabeau Evolution S3 is definitely among the tallest models. It’s a neck pillow, so I didn’t really expect it to look cute, but the bigger question was whether it was comfortable for sleeping while traveling, right?

The Cabeau Evolution S3 has some cool features that I appreciated while traveling. Some things didn’t work out so nicely, but I wouldn’t necessarily call them drawbacks; they’re just a few things I didn’t enjoy so much. In this article, I will tell you more about my first-hand experience with this unique pillow, including its features, specifications, pros, and cons.

Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology

At Sleep Advisor, we test pillows first-hand to provide our readers with a genuine understanding of who we think would like the product. We look at different features such as support, comfort, and more. I was fortunate enough to take the Cabeau Evolution S3 on a trip, having the chance to test this while actually traveling for a more authentic review.

For more on our testing methodology, visit our product review process page.

Who Is the Cabeau Evolution S3 Neck Pillow Best for?

Pros: Who Might Like the Cabeau Evolution S3 Pillow:

 • People with a taller neck – This is one of the tallest neck pillows out there, so it should provide excellent support for those with a taller neck.
 • Frequent travelers – The Cabeau Evolution S3 is a convenient neck pillow with a few useful features. As such, it’s a good opinion for those who travel a lot.
 • Budget shoppers – This travel pillow is an affordable model, which is excellent for budget shoppers and those looking for the best value for money.

Cons: Who Might Not Like the Cabeau Evolution S3 Pillow:

 • Those who use headphones – Because this pillow is as tall as it is, I think it might be a little tricky to use with headphones and earbuds. It comes all the way to your ears, so it could be uncomfortable to pair with earbuds.
 • Petite sleepers – Petite people, such as myself, might find this neck pillow a little too tall.
 • Claustrophobic people – When I first put this neck pillow on, I felt it was really tight and tall. It feels a little too “in my face,” which can be a problem if you’re claustrophobic.

What Is the Cabeau Evolution S3 Pillow Made Of?

Cover

The Cabeau Evolution S3 neck pillow comes with a 100 percent polyester cover. You can choose between a few colors, which is always a nice quality.

The cover is removable and washable, but make sure to wash on cool settings only. If you’re going to tumble dry it, do so on low as well. It’s important not to bleach or iron the fabric.

Core

The core of this pillow is filled with 100 percent polyurethane memory foam. We often see this material in neck pillows as it offers excellent support and conforms well. It’s unlikely to dent, so you should be able to sleep for hours without having to fluff the filling as you would with loose memory foam cubes.

The filling is not washable, but you can vent it a little to freshen it up after a trip.

Cabeau Evolution S3 Pillow Firmness & Feel

Firmness

Like many similar travel pillows, the Cabeau Evolution S3 is on the firmer side. In my experience, neck pillows are typically firmer than regular pillows because they have to support your neck and head upright. Nonetheless, this firmness is rather universal, and I can see it working out for many people.

Feel

Even with the firmer feel, this neck pillow is pretty comfortable. It felt nice around the neck, considering it might have been a little too tall for me. The taller construction gives you more support, that’s for sure. I noticed it does a good job of keeping my head in place since it goes all the way up to my jaw.

Loft

As I pointed out several times, this is a taller pillow. It’s 5 inches tall, and although that might not seem like a lot, you should think about how tall your neck is. I don’t have the longest neck since I’m pretty petite, so this pillow was really on the edge of being too tall for me. That said, the loft size can really do its job, supporting both the neck and head.

Weight (Density of the Pillow)

The Cabeau Evolution S3 neck pillow weighs 11.6 ounces. This might be a little heavier than your regular neck pillow. The memory foam inside is dense and firm, which explains the extra weight.

However, keep in mind that 11 ounces is still lightweight, generally speaking, so carrying this pillow around shouldn’t be an issue.

Sleeping on the Cabeau Evolution S3 Pillow

This is a comfortable neck pillow that does a good job of keeping your neck and head supported. It’s meant for flying, but I can see it working out in car rides as well. I tested it out for a few hours and was able to get a good sleep, which means it passed the ultimate test.

How comfortable it will be for you depends on how its loft size fits your neck. What I also liked was being able to anchor it to the headrest, so I didn’t have to hold it.

Sleep Advisor’s Performance Ratings for the Cabeau Evolution S3 Pillow

Temperature

3/5

I wouldn’t say the Cabeau Evolution S3 feels hot, but it’s also not designed for cooling, which might be an issue if you’re a particularly hot sleeper traveling during hot weather. Memory foam does have a reputation for overheating, though. Luckily, Cabeau has a cooling version of the Evolution neck pillow for those who sleep hot.

Support

5/5

Support is unmatched here, mostly thanks to the taller loft. I really felt it kept my neck and head in place, which is great to avoid hitting your head on the window. The memory foam filling is dense and firm, further promoting good support for the neck and head.

Durability

5/5

I can see this neck pillow lasting a long time, but this also depends on how frequently you use it. The foam filling is unlikely to develop any dents since it keeps coming back into shape after you remove the pillow. The polyester cover looks equally durable, but again, I only tested this pillow for a few hours. That said, I’d still give it a 5 out of 5 here since the foam and cover feel and look quite durable.

Comfort

4/5

I can say the Cabeau Evolution S3 is a comfortable neck pillow, but its height might not work for everyone. As mentioned, it has a taller loft that could be uncomfortable for those with a shorter neck. For me, it felt a little suffocating, which I didn’t love. Nonetheless, I was able to sleep nicely, and that’s what counts.

Off-Gassing

4/5

The Cabeau Evolution S3 might have an odor when you first unpack it. This is because it has memory foam, a material that’s known to off-gas a little. If you notice any odors, don’t worry because those should dissipate within a few hours.

Allergens

1/5

Unless you’re allergic to polyester or memory foam, you shouldn’t have any allergic reactions when sleeping on the Cabeau Evolution S3 neck pillow. However, this pillow has no certifications for the foam in it, which is why I only gave it a 1 out of 5 here.

Cleaning & Care

5/5

Cleaning the Cabeau Evolution S3 neck pillow is easy and quick. The cover is washable, so just throw it in the washing machine on cool settings. You can tumble-dry the cover or leave it outside to dry.

Sleep Trial & Warranty

2/5

This pillow comes with a 1-year warranty and no sleep trial. Since there’s no sleep trial, I gave it a 2 out of 5 here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do travel neck pillows actually work?

Travel pillows can be amazing when you want to nap during your trip. It doesn’t matter if you’re flying or traveling in a train, bus, or car, a travel pillow can make the experience much more comfortable by keeping your head and neck well-supported.

Can you wash the Cabeau neck pillow?

The neck pillow itself is not washable, but the cover is. You can easily remove and wash it in the washing machine, but I would advise against washing the memory foam core.

How do you store a Cabeau neck pillow?

This pillow is easy to fold and pack into a small travel bag. This makes it convenient to carry around when you’re not actually sleeping on it.

My Final Thoughts on the Cabeau Evolution S3 Pillow

Although I didn’t love the tall design, I can’t complain about its comfort. It felt more comfortable than it looked, I’ll give it that.

There’s plenty to like about this neck pillow, though, starting with anchor straps to attach it to the seat and then the adjustable strap to tighten the pillow around your neck. Oh, and did I mention it has a little pocket for your earphones or a small snack?

The temperature might be a drawback for you if you’re a particularly hot sleeper. I can see it being too much to wear when the weather is hot, in which case it might help to have a few cooling features. Overall, it earned a score of 3.6 out of 5.

Melatonin is a hormone that helps regulate your sleep-wake cycle. While we naturally produce this hormone, some people may choose to use melatonin supplements to help facilitate sleep better if they’re struggling to doze off.

Melatonin supplements are available in many forms, but melatonin gummies are a popular pick because they often taste good and are easier to take. Plus, the best melatonin gummies typically contain effective doses of the hormone, making them just as effective as other forms.

In this guide, we’ll share the best melatonin gummies available right now, along with a comprehensive buying guide on how to choose the best one for you.

Why Mary Ruth’s Earned Editor’s Pick

Many melatonin gummies can have sub-par ingredients and too much sugar, but the Mary Ruth Melatonin Sleep Gummies stand out because they’re sugar-free and contain only natural ingredients. They also contain 5 milligrams of melatonin per two-gummy serving, which is on the high end of the effective dose range1 for adults.

In addition to melatonin, these gummies contain vitamin B6, L-theanine, and lemon balm extract, three other active ingredients that can boost melatonin production2, promote relaxation3, and help reduce anxiety and stress4.

Another reason these gummies stand out is that they’re made with pectin instead of gelatin. This makes them suitable for vegan consumers since traditional gummies are not vegan-friendly. They’re also gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, and soy-free to accommodate a wide range of dietary restrictions and preferences.

Mary Ruth also offers a happiness guarantee so you can try the supplement for 30 days to see if it works for you. If it doesn’t, you can send it back for a store credit (or exchange it for something else).

What Are Mary Ruth’s Melatonin Gummies Made Of?

Mary Ruth’s Melatonin Sleep Gummies contain four active ingredients: melatonin, vitamin B6, L-theanine, and lemon balm extract. They’re sweetened with a combination of sugar alcohols (maltitol, erythritol, and xylitol) and organic stevia. They also contain natural flavors and colors, plus pectin, citric acid, sodium citrate, and organic sunflower oil, which contribute to texture and shelf-life.

Our Take: We like the Mary Ruth Melatonin Sleep Gummies because they contain an effective dose of melatonin without added sugar. They’re also suitable for a wide range of dietary restrictions, so they could work well for many people.

What We Liked

 • Contains supportive ingredients – In addition to melatonin, this supplement contains vitamin B6, L-theanine, and lemon balm extract, which can work together to help you sleep.2, 3, 4 This can make it more effective than melatonin-only supplements.
 • Doesn’t contain any sugar – Most melatonin gummies have a gram or two of sugar, but these contain only non-nutritive sweeteners. This keeps the sugar, carb, and calorie count lower.

Potential Drawbacks

 • Only available in one flavor – There’s only one flavor, and it’s a little out of the box. We would love to see more common flavor choices.
 • Contains sugar alcohols – While this supplement doesn’t have any sugar, it does contain maltitol, which may cause an upset stomach in some people. Usually, this is with much higher doses, though.

Customer Reviews of Mary Ruth’s Melatonin Sleep Gummies

Mary Ruth’s Melatonin Gummies have a rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars on the brand’s website. Customers love the clean ingredient list and say they’re highly effective, but some aren’t huge fans of the taste.

Why Natural Vitality Earned Best Melatonin Gummy for Taste

Natural Vitality, which has been around since the 1980s, has a whole supplement line that’s designed to help calm you down and support sleep. Because of this, it’s safe to say that the company knows a thing or two about effective ingredients.

These Sleep Gummies combine 3 milligrams of melatonin with 50 milligrams of magnesium citrate and L-theanine, an amino acid that helps promote relaxation5, and the supplement is third-party tested and NSF-certified to verify this potency and the purity of ingredients.

In addition to this transparency, one thing that really makes these melatonin gummies stand out is the taste. They come in a blueberry pomegranate flavor that reviewers say tastes great and doesn’t leave any sort of aftertaste; many compare them to candy. They’re also soft and chewy, which makes them easier to take.

We also like that Natural Vitality offers a 60-day money-back guarantee — one of the most generous of all the brands we recommend. You can try the gummies for up to two months and return them for a refund if you don’t like them.

What Are Natural Vitality Sleep Gummies Made Of?

All of Natural Vitality’s supplements are made with natural ingredients. This specific one has a pretty short ingredient list that includes 50 milligrams of magnesium citrate, 3 milligrams of melatonin, 50 milligrams of L-theanine, organic tapioca syrup, organic sugar, water, pectin, citric acid, natural flavors and colors, and organic sunflower oil. The formulation was changed recently so these are now gluten-free, vegan-friendly, and non-GMO.

Our Take: We named the Natural Vitality Sleep Gummies the best-tasting one because reviewers rave about the flavor and texture. These gummies also contain a combination of relaxation-promoting ingredients.

What We Liked

 • Tastes good – Some gummies can have an aftertaste or undesirable texture, but many reviewers say this one tastes great. If this is an important quality for you in a melatonin gummy, that’s a good indication this could be a viable option for you.
 • Organic sweeteners – While these gummies do have sugar, both of the sweeteners (tapioca syrup and sugar) in them are organic. There are no artificial sweeteners in addition to these.

Potential Drawbacks

 • Only one flavor – While many reviewers say it tastes good, there’s only one flavor to choose from. We’d love to see some more options.
 • Lower dose than some others – These gummies have 3 milligrams of magnesium per serving. This should be in an effective range for adults, but some consumers may be interested in something with a slightly higher dose.

Customer Reviews of the Natural Vitality Sleep Gummies

These gummies have a 4.5 out of 5 average rating on the brand’s website. While some reviewers say they taste too sweet, most like the flavor and texture and say they work well without making you feel groggy in the morning.

Why Olly Sleep Earned Best Value Melatonin Gummy

You have to be discerning when it comes to lower-cost supplements. You want to save some money but not at the expense of quality. With the Olly Sleep Gummies, you can have the best of both worlds.

These gummies break down to just 52 to 56 cents per serving, depending on which size you get (ordering the larger bottle brings the cost down a bit). For reference, that’s about 30 percent less expensive than the Mary Ruth gummies, our Editor’s Pick item. If you want to save even more, you can subscribe to a recurring shipment for another 15 percent off.

However, despite their lower price, they’re still made with high-quality ingredients, and Olly doesn’t skimp on third-party testing — these gummies are certified by the NSF so you know you’re getting exactly what the label says you are.

Each serving is two gummies and this provides 3 milligrams of melatonin, which is well within the effective dose range, along with other calming active ingredients like lemon balm extract, L-theanine, chamomile extract, and passionflower extract. This combination could help improve sleep quality, promote relaxation, and reduce anxiety and insomnia6.3, 4

What Are Olly Sleep Gummies Made Of?

Olly Sleep combines five active ingredients: melatonin, lemon balm extract, L-theanine, chamomile extract, and passionflower extract. In addition to these active ingredients, this gummy contains glucose syrup, beet sugar, water, gelatin, natural flavors, citric acid, natural coloring, pectin, vegetable oil, and carnauba wax. Since these gummies are sweetened with glucose syrup and beet sugar, they have 2 grams of added sugar per serving.

Our Take: The Olly Sleep Gummies are budget-friendly without sacrificing quality. They have an effective melatonin dose, other highly effective active ingredients, and a natural ingredient list.

What We Liked

 • Lower cost per serving – These gummies are about 30 percent less expensive than our Editor’s Pick selection without sacrificing quality. You can save even more money on them if you subscribe to a recurring delivery.
 • Natural ingredients – While these gummies do contain two forms of sugar, all of the ingredients are natural. There are no artificial colors or flavors.

Potential Drawbacks

 • Contains added sugar – Each serving contains 2 grams of added sugar. While this is par for the course with many gummy supplements, it’s worth mentioning for those who prefer a sugar-free version.
 • Made with gelatin – Because this melatonin gummy is made with gelatin, it’s not suitable for vegans. Those who want to avoid animal-based ingredients will need to find a gummy made with pectin.

Customer Reviews of the Olly Sleep Gummies

The Olly Sleep Gummies have an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars on Amazon. Customers say they help them fall asleep faster, but some reviewers report they wake up three or four hours into the night.

Why Nordic Naturals Earned Best Sugar-Free Melatonin Gummy

While many gummies contain sugar or a blend of artificial sweeteners, the Nordic Naturals Zero Sugar Melatonin Gummies are sweetened only with xylitol — a sugar alcohol that does not affect blood sugar levels7. Because of this, they have zero grams of added sugar and are suitable for those who are monitoring blood sugar levels, as well as anyone who prefers to limit sugar intake.

We also like these because melatonin is the only active ingredient. While the synergistic blend of botanicals and minerals in some of the others can be helpful, some people may just want a pure melatonin supplement — and that’s what you get here.

At first glance, these gummies may seem like they provide a much lower dose than some of the others, but Nordic Naturals lists the serving size as one gummy; most others use a two-gummy serving. They’re in line with the others we recommend when comparing them, gummy for gummy. Two gummies provide 3 milligrams of melatonin.

What Are Nordic Naturals Melatonin Gummies Made Of?

Nordic Naturals uses only natural ingredients, and this supplement is certified vegan and non-GMO. The ingredient list includes melatonin, xylitol, soluble tapioca fiber, purified water, pectin, natural flavor, citric acid, fruit and vegetable juice for color, sodium citrate dihydrate, sunflower oil, and carnauba wax. All ingredients and potencies are verified through third-party testing.

Our Take: We like the Nordic Naturals Zero Sugar Melatonin Gummies because they replace sugar with xylitol, a sugar alcohol that doesn’t have a negative effect on your blood sugar.7 There are no artificial sweeteners.

What We Liked

 • No sugar – The sugar-free formulation is one of the biggest draws of these melatonin gummies. There are still 2 grams of carbs per serving, but zero grams of added sugar and 1 gram of fiber.
 • Natural ingredient list – In addition to being sugar-free, these gummies are all-natural and don’t contain artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors, or preservatives.

Potential Drawbacks

 • May have an aftertaste – Because they’re sweetened with xylitol, some people may experience an aftertaste. Many describe it as cooling or minty.
 • Contains xylitol – Xylitol is a sugar alcohol that’s extremely toxic to dogs. You’ll have to use extra care to keep these out of reach of your four-legged friends.

Customer Reviews of the Nordic Naturals Zero Sugar Melatonin Gummies

There aren’t too many reviews on the brand’s site, but the Nordic Naturals Zero Sugar Melatonin Gummies have a 4.7 out of 5-star average rating. Some customers say they don’t like the taste and texture, but others say they work great and the benefits of having no sugar outweigh any of the cons.

Why Zarbee’s Earned Best Melatonin Gummy for Kids

You should talk with your pediatrician before giving melatonin to your kids, but once you get the all-clear, we like the Zarbee’s Children’s Sleep with Melatonin Gummies. These gummies have melatonin as the single active ingredient, and it’s in a dosage that’s suitable for children: 1 milligram per gummy.

These gummies are also allergen-friendly, so they’re safe for children with dietary restrictions. They’re made without all major allergens, including milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy, and sesame, and they’re gelatin-free.

We also like that they’re available in two flavors, berry and watermelon, so if your kids are picky, you’re more likely to find one that appeals to their tastes.

The one downside is that Zarbees isn’t clear on their testing process. While the company says they have a five-step testing and safety process, it doesn’t look like they outsource to third-party labs, so there’s no real way to verify purity and potency. Still, Zarbee’s has been a well-known brand since 2008.

What Is Zarbee’s Children’s Sleep Made Of?

The Zarbee’s Children’s Sleep has a straightforward ingredient list. The gummies are made with melatonin, honey, sucrose, glucose syrup, water, pectin, natural flavors, sodium citrate, and fruit and vegetable juice for color. Each gummy has 1 milligram of melatonin so you can dose appropriately depending on your child’s age.

Our Take: The Zarbee’s Children Sleep Gummies are a little high in sugar, but we think the natural ingredient list and low-dose melatonin outweigh this. Plus, the sugars are natural forms.

What We Liked

 • Low dose – At 1 milligram per gummy, these have a low dose that’s appropriate for children ages 3 and up. If your child needs more, they can take two gummies.
 • Two flavor choices – Unlike most other gummies on the list, these come in two flavor choices. This gives your kids more options.

Potential Drawbacks

 • Contains added sugar – There are three types of added sugar in these gummies (honey, sucrose, and glucose syrup). At 2 grams per gummy, they have more total sugar than the others on the list.
 • No official third-party testing – While Zarbee’s has a multi-step testing process, they’re not certified by any major third-party organizations, like the NSF or Informed Choice.

Customer Reviews of Zarbee’s Children’s Sleep with Melatonin Gummies

The Zarbee’s Children’s Sleep with Melatonin Gummies have 4.7 out of 5 stars on the brand’s website. Reviewers say they’re gentle, taste good, and don’t cause any side effects, but some don’t like the added sugar.

The Natrol Melatonin Gummies are our pick for Best Extra-Strength because they contain 10 milligrams of melatonin per two-gummy serving. This means you can get twice as much melatonin as the Mary Ruth’s Melatonin Sleep Gummies, our Editor’s Pick, without increasing the number of gummies you have to take.

In addition to this, these gummies use only natural ingredients and don’t contain any artificial flavors, sweeteners, preservatives, or synthetic dyes. They’re also non-GMO.

Further, all of this is verified through regular third-party testing, so you know that you’re actually getting a higher dose and clean ingredients. Natrol manufactures their supplements in cGMP-certified facilities and is NSF-certified.

Despite the higher dose, they’re still generously priced. While the price varies depending on which size bottle you get, you can expect to pay around 67 cents per gummy, which is in line with the lower-dose options.

What Are Natrol Melatonin Gummies Made Of?

The Natrol Melatonin Gummies contain only one active ingredient: melatonin. This is probably your best bet with a high-strength gummy, since you don’t want to increase the risk of interactions with any other active ingredients. It also has a clean ingredient list that includes tapioca syrup, cane sugar, water, citric acid, coconut oil, carnauba wax, fruit and vegetable juice, natural flavors, pectin, and sodium citrate.

Our Take: We like the Natrol Melatonin Gummies because the higher dosage is verified through NSF certification. Melatonin is also the only active ingredient, so there’s less of a risk of interactions.

What We Liked

 • Only one active ingredient With a high-dose supplement, we prefer to stick to one active ingredient. This one has only 10 milligrams of melatonin.
 • Reasonably priced – Extra-strength supplements typically cost more, but this one is in line with other, lower-dose supplements. You can expect to pay around 67 cents per gummy, depending on which size you buy.

Potential Drawbacks

 • Not for new users Each gummy contains 5 milligrams of melatonin, so these aren’t a great choice for new melatonin users.
 • Higher chance of side effects – While melatonin is generally safe, higher doses are still more likely to cause side effects. If side effects do occur, they’re usually mild.

Customer Reviews of the Natrol Melatonin Gummies

The Natrol Melatonin Gummies have a 4.2 out of 5-star average on the brand’s website. Some reviewers say the taste isn’t great, but they work quickly and have led to much deeper, more restorative sleep.

Why Goli Earned Best Low-Dose Melatonin Gummy

If you’re new to melatonin, you may want to try a lower-dose option, like the Goli Dreamy Sleep Gummies. We like these gummies because they contain just 2.5 milligrams of melatonin per serving, and since a serving is two gummies, you can drop that dose even more to 1.25 milligrams by taking one gummy. This is a great starting dose for people who are new to melatonin or for those who prefer not to take too much at one time.

They’re suitable for all types of diets — they’re vegan, non-GMO, gluten-free, and gelatin-free — and they’re made in the U.S. in allergen-free facilities (and free of all major allergens). The facilities are also cGMP-certified, so there is a rigorous level of oversight involved in their production that can give you some peace of mind about their potency and quality.

Because they’re sweetened with sugar and tapioca syrup, they contain 2 grams of added sugar per serving, which is pretty standard for sugar-sweetened gummies.

What Are Goli Dreamy Sleep Gummies Made Of?

The Goli Dreamy Sleep Gummies are all-natural. In addition to melatonin, these gummies contain vitamin D, magnesium citrate, lemon balm extract, and a proprietary herbal blend that combines chamomile extract, passionflower extract, and tart cherry powder.

While most studies are on the juice and not the powder, there is some evidence that tart cherries can help regulate circadian rhythm and boost sleep quality8. In addition to the active ingredients, these gummies also contain cane sugar, tapioca syrup, water, pectin, natural flavor, citric acid, sodium citrate, malic acid, and fruit and vegetable juices for color.

Our Take: The low dosage of this supplement is a draw, but that’s not the only reason we like it. It’s also made with natural ingredients and made in allergen-free, cGMP-certified facilities in the U.S.

What We Liked

 • Lower dose than others – Each serving contains just 2.5 milligrams of melatonin, instead of 3 to 5 milligrams. Also, because a serving is two gummies, you can take just one to lower the dose even more.
 • Contains other effective ingredients – In addition to melatonin, these gummies contain lemon balm extract and tart cherry powder. These ingredients have also been shown to help promote relaxation and better sleep quality.4, 8

Potential Drawbacks

 • Some don’t like the texture – Some reviewers say the gummies are sticky and clump together. These can make them harder to get out of the bottle, especially if they get warm.
 • Other active ingredients may not be for everyone – In addition to botanicals, these gummies contain vitamin D and magnesium. If you’re not looking for extra vitamin and mineral supplementation, they may not be the best option for you.

Customer Reviews of the Goli Dreamy Sleep Gummies

While all customer reviews aren’t posted on the brand’s website, the Goli Dreamy Sleep Gummies have an average of 4.3 out of 5 stars from more than 3,000 reviews on Amazon. Customers say they taste amazing and work well, but some have issues with the gummies sticking together, so make sure to keep them out of the heat.

What Are the

Benefits of Melatonin?

The most well-known benefit of melatonin is improved sleep. There are many studies looking at melatonin’s effects on sleep and the circadian rhythm and, collectively, these studies suggest that melatonin can:

Melatonin is also an anti-inflammatory12, so it could help combat chronic inflammation and neutralize free radicals, while also helping to reduce insulin resistance.

Are Melatonin Gummies Safe?

Yes, based on research13, melatonin gummies are generally considered safe for most healthy adults, even in higher doses. If adverse effects do occur, they’re usually mild. The most common are dizziness, sleepiness, nausea, and headache.

If you have any underlying health conditions, or you’re taking medications, talk to your doctor before taking a melatonin supplement. There’s some research14 showing that melatonin can interfere with the effectiveness of some blood pressure-lowering medications.

Are Melatonin Gummies Safe for Kids?

There’s less research on melatonin use for kids, but the available studies show that short-term use of melatonin is generally considered safe for healthy children and those with chronic sleep conditions15

The key word here, though, is short-term. Some research suggests that long-term use of melatonin can delay the onset of puberty16, especially if melatonin supplements are taken during this time. Because of this, it’s important to work with your pediatrician to make sure the dosage and timing of melatonin is appropriate for your child.

There are some additional caveats, too. Melatonin should not be used as a standalone solution for kids; instead, it should be combined with cognitive-behavioral therapy and improvements in sleep hygiene.

Additionally, you should not give melatonin to kids with immune disorders17 or who are currently on immunomodulating medications.

Because melatonin gummies look (and often taste) like candy, you’ll also want to be extra careful about storing them out of reach of kids. According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), unintentional melatonin ingestion among children under the age of five increased as much as 530 percent18 between 2012 and 2021.

Are Melatonin Gummies Effective?

There isn’t any definitive research comparing different types of oral melatonin, but it’s assumed that melatonin gummies are effective for sleep19, as long as the specific brand you choose has been third-party tested to ensure potency and efficacy.

Learn more: Do Melatonin Gummies Work?

When Should You Take Melatonin Gummies?

Research shows that, when taken orally, melatonin reaches peak concentration in about 60 minutes20. Because of this, you should take melatonin gummies an hour before your bedtime.

Should You Take Melatonin Gummies Every Day?

Daily use is okay in the short term, but Johns Hopkins Medicine21 recommends only taking melatonin regularly for one to two months and then seeing how your sleep is. If you’re still having trouble after a couple of months, you may want to see a sleep specialist for more targeted care.

How to Choose a

Melatonin Gummy Supplement

Dosage

Melatonin gummies are available in a wide range of dosages, and the right one for you depends on why you’re taking melatonin and how your body processes it. In general, a typical effective dose for adults ranges from 1 to 5 milligrams.1

Some melatonin gummies offer as much as 10 milligrams of melatonin per serving, but a higher dose doesn’t necessarily mean it’s more effective.

It’s generally recommended to start with a low dose22 to see how it works for you, and then gradually increase your intake from there, if needed.

Flavor

Flavor is a personal preference, but it’s something to consider when choosing a gummy. Melatonin gummies come in many different flavors, from berry to passion fruit with jasmine tea. When deciding between them, you might want to factor in which flavor you like best.

Sugar Content

Unlike capsules or tablets, melatonin gummies typically contain sugar or some sort of sweetener to make them more palatable. While a little bit isn’t a big deal, consuming too much added sugar during the day can negatively affect sleep quality23.

Aim for no more than 1 to 2 grams of sugar per serving. If you want to avoid added sugar completely, look for no-sugar gummies that are sweetened with stevia, monk fruit, or sugar alcohol instead.

Other Active Ingredients

Some melatonin gummies only have one active ingredient: melatonin. But others, especially those that are marketed as general sleep supplements, may have several, like vitamin B6, magnesium, L-theanine, and/or lemon balm, to name a few.

These active ingredients will typically be listed on the label, so read them thoroughly to make sure it’s what you want. In some cases, active ingredients can work synergistically, making the supplement more effective. For example, vitamin B6 has been shown to boost the production of melatonin, while L-theanine can help reduce stress and anxiety, making it easier to fall asleep.2, 4

However, if you only want melatonin, double-check the label so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Third-Party Endorsements

Because melatonin is classified as a dietary supplement, it’s not regulated by the FDA24. This means the onus is on the supplement company to verify what’s in their products. Some companies take this duty seriously, seeking optional third-party testing to help verify potency and purity. Others opt out of third-party testing, which makes it harder to determine if the supplement label actually matches what’s inside.

When choosing a melatonin gummy, it’s best to buy products that have third-party certification from well-known programs, like the U.S. Pharmacopeia25 (USP) and NSF International26

You can also look for more specific third-party endorsements, like the NSF Certified for Sport and/or Informed Choice, which indicate that the supplement has been tested for contamination and banned ingredients and found to be safe.

Effectiveness

There’s no way to know with 100 percent certainty that a supplement will be effective for you, but there are some things you can look for to increase the likelihood.

For starters, you want to choose a supplement with a science-backed dosage. For melatonin gummies, that means around 1 to 5 milligrams of melatonin for most adults. If you’re an older adult, you may want to bump that up to the 1 to 6-milligram range. Children and adolescents should take 0.5 to 3 milligrams and 3 to 5 milligrams, respectively.1

That said, you can’t always take the label claims at face value. When it comes to melatonin specifically, research shows that the concentration of the supplement can range from -83 percent to 478 percent27 of what’s actually listed on the label.

For this reason, you’ll want to look for third-party testing from a reputable lab. This will ensure that the supplement contains the listed concentration of melatonin and that it’s not contaminated with any unknown ingredients.

Potential Side Effects

Melatonin gummies are considered safe for short-term use, but they can cause side effects, especially in higher doses28. To reduce the risk of potential side effects, start with gummies with smaller doses, around 1 milligram per serving, and work your way up, as needed.

While some extra-strength melatonin gummies have 10 milligrams per serving, 1 to 5 milligrams is enough for most adults.1 Targeting this range should make side effects less likely.

In addition to paying attention to dosages, read through customer reviews to see if there are repeated mentions of side effects. While a small subset of people may experience dizziness or nausea, you shouldn’t be seeing an alarming number of reports. If you do, it could be a sign of contamination or improper labeling.

Manufacturing Process

Not all companies are forthcoming about their manufacturing processes, but you can look for clues that they follow regulated guidelines. A Current Good Manufacturing Practice29 or cGMP certification is the gold standard for manufacturing.

While the FDA doesn’t regulate melatonin gummies directly, it oversees these regulations, which ensure high-quality manufacturing. To get, and maintain, a cGMP certification, the FDA regularly inspects the facilities where supplements are made to ensure quality and safety.

In addition to this certification, you might also want to look for transparency from the brand itself. Do they provide information about where their raw materials come from and where supplements are made? The more information a company is willing to provide, the better.

Price

Instead of looking at the total cost of a melatonin supplement, you want to consider the cost per serving, since bottle sizes can vary. The melatonin gummies we recommend range from about 52 cents per serving to 75 cents per serving, which you can generally expect to spend on high-quality melatonin gummies. If you’re looking at a supplement that’s much more or less than that, you may want to reconsider.

You don’t want to overpay, but you also don’t want to get the cheapest supplement you can find. If you do, you risk sacrificing quality and verification through third-party testing.

Customer Experience

You can learn a lot about a supplement, and the company that manufactures it, by reading through unbiased, firsthand reviews. Before deciding on a melatonin gummy, read what other customers had to say about their experiences.

Are there any major complaints about the product or supplement? Does the company respond in a timely manner? Do they work to resolve complaints? These are all questions you should find the answers to before purchasing from a company.

Don’t just rely on the company’s website for customer reviews, since they have more control over what gets published there. Instead, dig through Amazon reviews and third-party sites like TrustPilot for the most accurate representation of the overall customer experience.

Brand Reputation

Along the same lines as customer experience, you also want to think about the brand’s reputation. Is the company well-known with a good track record of making high-quality products? Are there any complaints against the company with the Better Business Bureau (BBB)?

Before purchasing from a company, dig into the history of the brand to see if any red flags come up. If they do, you might want to purchase from a different brand.

How to Increase

Melatonin Naturally

While supplements can provide an exogenous source of melatonin, they don’t actually get to the root cause of the issue. For long-term relief, you may want to make some lifestyle changes to help increase your natural production of melatonin. Here are some things you can try.

 • Dimming lights at night – Melatonin production is highly light-dependent. Levels of melatonin decrease when you’re exposed to light, and increase when it gets dark. Because of this, exposure to too much light at night can reduce melatonin production30 and make it harder for you to fall asleep. To combat this, use dim, warm lights at night as much as possible. You can also consider putting blackout curtains on your windows, unplugging electronic devices at night, and keeping phones and TVs out of your bedroom.
 • Turning off screen devices before bed – Research shows that exposure to screens, especially right before bed, can decrease melatonin production31 and negatively affect sleep quality. Independent of blue light exposure, too much screen time32 can also lead to poor sleep. While there’s no official guideline for when to cut off screen use, the American Academy of Ophthalmology33 recommends ditching screens at least 1 to 2 hours before bed. This means turning off the TV, putting your phone down, and shutting your laptop down. If you can’t avoid screens, switch to night mode as it gets dark in the evening. Research shows that, when compared to blue light, the warmer light can reduce melatonin suppression by as much as 93 percent34.
 • Consume more melatonin-rich foods and beveragesSome foods and drinks naturally contain melatonin or compounds, like serotonin and tryptophan35, that can affect melatonin production. These foods include36 eggs, fish, milk, nuts, mushrooms, dark green vegetables, cherries, tart cherry juice, pineapple, and bananas. Try to include as many of them in your diet as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which melatonin is the most effective?

One small study suggests that extended-release melatonin supplements37 may be more effective than immediate-release formulations because they stay in your body longer and more closely mimic the actions of naturally occurring melatonin. But it also comes down to dosage. Research shows that supplements that contain between 1 and 5 milligrams of melatonin per serving are most effective for adults.1

Is 10mg of melatonin too much?

A dose of 10 milligrams of melatonin per day is likely safe, but you don’t necessarily need that much. Lower dosages can be just as effective as higher ones, and most doctors recommend taking between 0.3 to 5 milligrams38 before bedtime.

If you’re new to melatonin, it’s best to start with a lower dose and gradually increase intake as needed, based on recommendations from your doctor.

Do melatonin gummies really work?

Yes, melatonin gummies contain effective doses of melatonin, which has been found to reduce sleep latency, improve sleep quality, and increase total sleep time.9, 10 Melatonin doesn’t always work for everyone though, and it’s a good idea to combine supplementation with lifestyle changes that can help increase your brain’s production of melatonin naturally.

If you’re over trying to sleep on a traditional neck pillow, I have some good news. I tested the BCozzy neck pillow on a flight, and it was a charm. This is an adjustable pillow, which means it should fit a range of people. Plus, it’s thinner than the traditional neck pillows we typically carry when traveling.

This neck pillow has a unique design that makes it easier to fit around your neck, depending on how your head usually falls when you sleep. This makes it more likely you’ll be able to sleep nicely on any drive or flight.

In this article, I want to take you through all the qualities I liked and what I didn’t like about the BCozzy neck pillow. I’ll also go over important buying factors when choosing a pillow such as durability, trial, warranty, and more.

Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology

Testing neck pillows is always best to do when traveling, which is exactly what I did with the BCozzy model. This way, I can tell if it actually works for what it’s meant to or not. I test for factors such as its feel, ease of use, and overall comfort.

For more on our testing methodology, visit our product review process page.

Who Is the BCozzy Pillow Best for?

Pros: Who Might Like the BCozzy Pillow:

 • People with smaller necks – If you have a smaller neck, you probably need a thinner pillow. In this case, I think the BCozzy neck pillow could be a good choice.
 • People who need chin support – This neck pillow has some of the best chin support to keep your head upright when you travel.
 • Those who sit in the middle seat – This neck provides good support for those who are sitting in the middle seat on an airplane.

Cons: Who Might Not Like the BCozzy Pillow :

 • Those who travel a lot – Although this was a comfortable pillow to fly with, I think it might not last a long time, given the customer reviews. Some people raise the question of durability, saying the core doesn’t offer the same support after a few months.
 • People who use low-hanging earplugs – If you’re using low-hanging earplugs or headphones, they might touch the pillow. If they’re too low, you might not even be able to use the BCozzy pillow.
 • People who have a wide neck – If you have a wider neck, you might find the BCozzy pillow too tight when you attach the two sides. In this case, you might want to go for one of the larger sizes.

What Is the BCozzy Pillow Made Of?

Cover

The cover is made entirely of polyester and is gentle to the touch. The good thing is that it’s removable and washable, which should make cleaning a breeze. You can also choose among three colors to match your preferred aesthetic.

Core

The core of the BCozzy neck pillow is also polyester. While you have color options with the BCozzy, the material is the same throughout the product.

BCozzy Pillow Firmness & Feel

Firmness

The BCozzy neck pillow has a medium firmness, so I wouldn’t say it’s too firm or too soft. It’s right there in the middle, which is why I think it would work for many people. Unfortunately, there are no additional firmness options with this pillow if that’s what you’re looking for.

Feel

This neck pillow feels comfortable and cozy, and it has one of the best chin support systems, which is another plus in my book. The Velcro on each side also makes it easy to adjust how tight or loose you want it to feel.

Related: Best Pillow for Neck Pain

Loft

When you first look at it, the BCozzy neck pillow isn’t very tall. The height is 4.7 inches, so it works great for people with a smaller neck. In my opinion, the loft is comfortable, but what I like the most is that it’s adjustable; when you attach the two sides, you make the loft taller, which is great for chin support.

Weight (Density of the Pillow)

This is a lightweight neck pillow, so carrying it around shouldn’t be an issue. It’s 7.4 ounces, which is pretty okay for a neck pillow you’ll most likely carry around all the time.

Sleeping on the BCozzy Pillow

I tested the BCozzy neck pillow on a flight and was able to get a good sleep. This is a comfortable pillow that provides a good amount of support, especially for the chin. In my opinion, this is good news for when you sit in the middle seat.

This pillow is adjustable, so you can work around your neck to find the perfect size. I can see how it can be a little tight for some people, but for me, it felt nice, and sleeping on it was spot-on.

Sleep Advisor’s Performance Ratings for the BCozzy Pillow

Temperature

2/5

The BCozzy neck pillow is not a cooling one, so don’t expect to feel an obvious cooling sensation. The polyester doesn’t feel particularly hot, but it can get hot over time. If you’re traveling in a hot climate or are a hot sleeper, you might want to look for an entirely different neck pillow with more cooling materials.

More: Best Cooling Pillows

Support

5/5

The BCozzy neck pillow has among the best support systems I’ve come across. The Velcro helps you find the fit and support level that works best for you. On top of that, when you attach the two sides, you get a somewhat taller loft size that helps keep the chin up if you lean forward.

Durability

3/5

I can’t say much about the durability of the BCozzy neck pillow because I’ve only tested it a few times. However, I can say it feels like it has average durability. Some customers reported that it doesn’t stand the test of time in terms of support. In other words, the BCozzy might not be as supportive after a few months when the materials wear down.

Comfort

5/5

This is one of the few neck pillows that doesn’t feel suffocating or as though I’m wearing a neck brace. However, it might feel a little tight if you have a wider neck, in which case you should consider a larger pillow size. Overall, the BCozzy is quite comfortable and supports the head well, which is especially useful while in the middle seat with no window to lean on.

Off-Gassing

4/5

The BCozzy neck pillow had that new product smell. While it’s not an uncomfortable smell, you might want to let it vent for a few hours before using it if you’re particularly sensitive.

This neck pillow has no third-party certifications, so keep that in mind if you’re sensitive or allergic to anything you might potentially find in this pillow. Generally speaking, it shouldn’t have any allergens, but I can see why the lack of certifications can be a drawback for some people.

Cleaning & Care

5/5

Cleaning the BCozzy neck pillow is as easy as it gets. The cover is removable and machine washable, but the company doesn’t recommend tumble drying. Instead, it’s best to line-dry the cover to prevent the material from shrinking. Also, you’re not supposed to use any bleach.

Sleep Trial & Warranty

Unfortunately, I couldn’t confirm any information on the trial or warranty for the BCozzy neck pillow. For this reason, I gave it a lower score here.

BCozzy Pillow Frequently Asked Questions

What is the correct way to use a neck pillow?

How you’ll use a neck pillow depends largely on the kind of pillow you have. Most neck pillows are simple to use. Typically, travel neck pillows will be placed around the neck to keep the neck and head supported. When it comes to the BCozzy model, this pillow has a velcro to adjust the size.

Do neck pillows actually work?

In my opinion, neck pillows are excellent for more comfort while sleeping during a trip. They do work, but it’s important to get a neck pillow that fits your shape, needs, and preferences. Luckily, there are countless models to pick from if the BCozzy neck pillow doesn’t work for you.

Do neck pillows count as a carry-on?

Neck pillows don’t count as a carry-on. Rather, a carry-on is a bag or a small suitcase, and in most cases, you’ll be allowed to bring a neck pillow as a personal item. Also, neck pillows are so small and lightweight, they don’t make much of a change for the overall weight you’re carrying.

My Final Thoughts on the BCozzy Neck Pillow

The BCozzy neck pillow was fun to test out, and it has standout pros to it. The pillow is easy to adjust to better accommodate you. Plus, it offers outstanding chin support so that your head doesn’t lean forward, which means less chance of waking up with neck pain. I can also see this neck pillow being extra useful when you sit in the middle seat without a window or a shoulder to lean on.

Now, the drawbacks. As I said, I couldn’t test its long-term durability, but some people pointed out it might not last a long time if you travel a lot. Overall, this pillow earned a score of 3.2 out of 5. However, this is mostly because the pillow didn’t have any third-party certifications or trial and warranty information available. It did excel at other important categories for travel pillows, though, which are comfort and support.

Magnesium has become quite the buzzword in the sleep supplement space, with the interest in it seemingly rivaling melatonin.

As a certified sleep science coach, I am skeptical about the endless supplement options that promise better sleep and health. However, one brand, LifeForce, caught my eye with their two products designed specifically for sleep health: Magnesium paired with Peak Rest Lemon Tea. I caved to my intrigue and decided to test them out in tandem for a month.

Before we get into my experience, though, I want to emphasize that you should always talk to your healthcare provider before starting a new supplement. While I encourage you to talk to your own doctor, LifeForce has a team of healthcare providers you can work with via subscription if you have additional questions. With that, let’s investigate.

Julia testing LifeForce Peak Rest Tea and Magnesium

My Experience with LifeForce’s Peak Rest Tea and Magnesium

I wanted to get an idea of how these products performed together since they can be used in tandem and both rely on powerful ingredients to help the body get better rest. Over the course of a month, I would take the magnesium capsules and a serving of lemon tea one hour before bed. The packaging on the PeakRest Tea suggests using it one hour before going to bed, whereas the magnesium’s packaging just says “in the evening.” Regardless of your schedule, though, I would recommend giving yourself time to ingest this so it can really perform when it comes time for you to get some shut-eye.

Sleep Stages from January 5th to January 25th
Sleep Stages from January 5th to January 25th

The first week of using these two products in tandem, it was quite literally “lights out” — as soon as I shut my eyes, I felt like I was already approaching deep sleep territory. I didn’t note any dreams or lucid reactions in the same way I had experienced with taking melatonin; instead, this experience was dreamless and deep. When I woke up, I would refer to my fitness tracker to see what kind of sleep data it recorded overnight. Initially, it showed very restful sleep and a lot of time spent in the deepest part of sleep, which is scientifically referred to as Stage 3 NREM1, which stands for the third stage of non-rapid eye movement sleep.

As the month progressed, this night-after-night effect seemed to wane off. I was still achieving restful sleep, but not as deep as it was initially when these supplements were being introduced to my system. This could be for a couple of reasons: traveling, other medications I was taking, or even my body adapting over time to magnesium. LifeForce’s Magnesium and PeakRest Tea can be taken together or separately, so it may merit different results based on if I went with just using one over the other.

Now, two big callouts for product experience. It’s suggested you take 2 to 3 magnesium capsules per serving. I would usually take two since these capsules are bigger. I was able to get used to them over time, but they had a slightly chalky texture and may be difficult for those who prefer not to ingest large pills. The second callout is about the PeakRest Tea. You work your way up from a half scoop to a full one over the first two to three days of use, making sure your gastrointestinal tract can handle the surge in vitamins and minerals. I chose to add it to water, but you can also add it to herbal tea that’s caffeine-free.

Candidly, this “tea” didn’t taste well with just water, so I recommend trying a chamomile or fruit blend tea to mask the taste. You should also use a milk frother, electronic handheld mixer, or at the very least, a shaker bottle with this product. I made that mistake initially, and it was a clumpy mess, which made drinking the tea less enjoyable. I’m willing to look past all that for its overall performance with the magnesium tablets, as it really did assist me in getting to deep sleep faster.

Without a subscription, a monthly subscription to PeakRest tea is $105, and the magnesium capsules are $60.

Who LifeForce PeakRest Tea and Magnesium Might Be Best For:

Want to know if you might be a good fit for LifeForce PeakRest Tea and Magnesium? Read below to find out my thoughts on who may (and may not) like this combination.

Who Might Like PeakRest Tea and Magnesium:

 • Consumers who’ll appreciate highly specialized care and regimen – If you opt to pay for the subscription, LifeForce gives you every resource they have to tailor a supplement program to your lifestyle. If better sleep is one of your top priorities, it’s folded into your plan.
 • Middle-aged users – LifeForce is designed around those who are mid-life and want to make sure they maintain their health as they get older. These products are designed to ensure better sleep, and thus, overall health.

Who Might Not Like PeakRest Tea and Magnesium:

 • Budget shoppers – This line and the brand overall may be out of reach for some users because even buying the supplements outside of a subscription can get expensive.
 • Shoppers who need production transparency – There do not appear to be any certifications for the ingredients or production processes with LifeForce products.

What Is Magnesium and How Does It Work?

Magnesium isn’t just a mineral that can help promote better sleep –– it’s involved in over 300 enzyme processes2 across the body. You’ll find it working to reinforce brain health, your bones, blood, nerves, and muscles. When it comes to sleep, though, magnesium can help promote relaxation3 in order to help people fall asleep more easily.

What Is LifeForce Magnesium & PeakRest Tea Made Of?

Unlike melatonin, there are multiple kinds of magnesium, four of which are in LifeForce’s magnesium capsules: magnesium bisglycinate chelate, magnesium L-threonate, dimagnesium malate, and magnesium n-acetyl taurinate. Each of these types is included to serve very specific roles. Magnesium bisglycinate is present to lower stress levels, dimagnesium malate for the muscles, l-threonate for the brain, and acetyl-taurinate for the heart.

That’s just the capsules. To really go the extra mile to get you sleeping better, PeakRest Tea boasts a powerful ingredient list of botanicals and other minerals working with 120 milligrams of magnesium glycinate. It’s a mix of items such as rosemary and daylily extracts, creatine monohydrate, and ashwagandha to promote neurological health and lower stress levels. However, the studies the brand calls upon to back the inclusion of these ingredients were not performed specifically for the brand, and these blends hail from other brands and require their own research into each to see what they contribute.

About LifeForce

As I was researching this brand, there were a few distinctive factors that stood out to me. First, the brand offers a highly personalized subscription in which you send in a blood test to LifeForce’s in-house medical team. From there, your “LifeForce Diagnostic” sample is measured for over 40 mental and physical health biomarkers, including hormone analysis, and preserving them long-term. A supplement regimen is then created for you, with the medical team on hand to work with you virtually. These biomarker tests occur every three months, and your supplement regimen will change accordingly. The brand is catered to middle-aged customers, but it’s a fascinating model that health-minded adults of all generations could partake in.

While having a highly focused regimen with medical backing could be exactly what you need, it is a pricey subscription. Memberships can go for around $550, with a $129-month fee thereafter. However, those prices don’t include your supplements; while they’re discounted with a membership, supplements still cost extra. You have the option to cancel anytime, and you can just get the supplements by themselves, which is what I went with.

The biggest callout here, though, is the certifications. Certifications like this provide transparency into how the products are made and, in my eyes, are crucial for reinforcing a product’s quality and efficacy. After reaching out to LifeForce’s customer service, they assured me that the products were manufactured in facilities that are FDA, current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP), and National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) certified.

Overall, I thought this was a good experience, and I’ll continue to use this pairing of supplements for when I need the extra assistance in getting better sleep.

Sleep Advisor’s Performance Ratings for LifeForce Magnesium & PeakRest Tea

Effectiveness

4/5

I was shocked at how quickly this product took to kick in, as the first week I was sleeping more soundly than I had in a while. However, as my body adapted to the new supplement routine, the efficacy dialed back a bit. In the future, I’d like to see how each product performs separately to determine if it warrants different results.

Side Effects

5/5

I was pleased to report that I did not experience any side effects while taking these supplements. That said if you opt to try these out, be aware of potential magnesium side effects4, such as diarrhea, nausea, and stomach cramps.

Ingredients

3/5

LifeForce pulls together a number of outsourced proprietary brands for their PeakRest Tea, with ingredients supposedly included to promote brain health and lower stress levels. However, none of the ingredients have any sort of certifications, and the studies used to back these claims are pretty broad and were not done specifically for this product. While certain elements like L-theanine for muscle recovery make perfect sense, I can’t necessarily say the same for the daylily extract courtesy of CLOCK®.

Manufacturing

5/5

I’m a big fan of brands showing the traceability of ingredients and certifying the facilities where products are manufactured –– and LifeForce makes sure it has certifications on hand for the facilities that produce these supplements.

Price

2/5

If you are not paying for a subscription, the price of these products may be too much –– especially considering there’s no insight into production or ingredient transparency. Even with the subscription, you only get a discount on supplements, and biomarker tests are encouraged every three months.

Customer Experience

4/5

There are multiple ways to get in touch with customer service, whether that be calling in, emailing, or even texting. Responses are pretty swift, straightforward, and polite, with customers overall pretty happy with their quality of service.

Brand Reputation

3/5

LifeForce as a brand seems to be in pretty good standing with consumers, and the model of the company is bringing something new to the supplement industry. It’s important to remember that the medical staff you interact with are in-house, so they’re going to work in favor of the brand. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s not going to be the same impartiality as your regular healthcare provider.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is LifeForce worth it?

LifeForce is worth it if you consider yourself someone who wants to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to your long-term health. The products I tried worked well and may even be more powerful if they were used in tandem with a custom regiment. However, the price of the supplements alone may be too much for some who just want to try out magnesium supplements.

Is it okay to take magnesium every day?

Generally, over-the-counter magnesium supplements are considered safe to take every day at a healthy dose. However, some doctors may recommend supplements as just a short-term solution rather than a long-term one.

The upside to magnesium is that you can often boost your intake through a healthy, balanced diet as well. Some examples of foods with magnesium include almonds, spinach, brown rice, and oatmeal.2

Who should not take magnesium?

According to Harvard Health, people with kidney disease have an increased risk of toxicity from too much magnesium because their kidneys can’t flush out the extra magnesium properly.2 However, if you have any health conditions or are taking other medications, it’s especially important to consult your doctor before taking magnesium (or any supplement). In general, though, we encourage anyone to consult their healthcare provider before taking supplements.

My Final Thoughts on LifeForce Magnesium & Peak Rest

I’ve never been much of a magnesium user, but after trying out LifeForce, I’m a fan. However, there’s much room for these products to improve, especially with production transparency and price point. Improving on these aspects would make me feel better about my investment instead of raising more questions about it.

I plan on continuing to use these products for nights when my circadian rhythm needs a boost, and I look forward to seeing what the company comes up with next for sleep health products. Overall, this product earned a 3.8 out of 5.
