Most people equate firm beds with feeling uncomfortable or too hard. The Helix Twilight is a different story. This durable hybrid bed is a firmer-feel model that was meant to accommodate side sleepers, so it maintains a cushiony feel despite its robust support. So, it can actually suit a variety of sleeping positions and needs.
We tested the Helix Twilight mattress in our studio to see if it performed up to par. In this review, we’ll tell you all the details and secrets. Some of these categories include (but certainly aren’t limited to) motion isolation, pressure relief, and edge support, which should help you decide if this Helix is the right one for you.

Helix Twilight Mattress Performance Ratings
Who We Recommend The Helix Twilight For:
- People with back pain – The Helix Twilight combines a sturdy unit of individually wrapped coils with foam layers to provide a balance of pressure relief and support. We think this is an excellent combination for people with back pain.
- Fans of firmer mattresses – This Helix hybrid has firm layers that don’t allow too much sinkage. We think most sleepers should feel like they’re sleeping ‘on top of’ the mattress rather than ‘in’ it.
- Couples – The Helix Twilight has memory foam and individually wrapped coils, both of which help isolate motion for partners with different sleeping habits. We don’t expect you’ll feel your partner’s tossing and turning, even if you’re a light sleeper.
Who We Don’t Recommend The Helix Twilight For:
- Side sleepers – We think most side sleepers are likely to find this mattress too stiff for the hips, knees, and shoulders.
- Shoppers who want a plush mattress – While some sleepers may prefer this bed’s firmer feel, we wouldn’t consider it a good match for those after a plush mattress. If you like sinking deep into your mattress, we think you’re better off with a softer alternative.
- Heavy stomach sleepers – Although the Twilight is a firmer mattress, it’s not supportive enough for heavy stomach sleepers above 300 pounds. We think this group should benefit more from the Helix Plus, which is made specifically for larger frames.
Customer Reviews of the Helix Twilight Mattress
The Helix Twilight has a score of 4.4 out of 5 on the company’s website, with many people praising its support and firm yet comfortable feel. Those who rated it lower experienced pressure buildup, or the firmness wasn’t what they expected.
Testing the Helix Twilight Mattress
Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
When testing mattresses, we look at several categories to determine who we think it would work best for. These include responsiveness or bounce, cooling, edge support, and motion isolation. We also test the mattress in different sleeping positions, focusing on its feel, support, and pressure relief.

Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 7.5/10 (Firm)
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
We rated the Helix Twilight mattress at a 7.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest.
In most cases, medium-firm beds are around 6 or 6.5, which means this Helix is even firmer than average mattresses. On top of that, it’s important to point out that some people may experience it as even firmer than this, depending on their body weight. For example, sleepers under 130 pounds probably won’t weigh enough to activate the comfort layers, experiencing the bed as firmer than someone weighing over 200 pounds.
How Does It Feel?
Lying on the Helix Twilight, we found it doesn’t allow too much sinkage. We felt well-supported by the coils, which also provided some bounce for mobility. The foam feels slow-moving, as memory foam usually does, so you can experience pressure relief around the lower back.
The mattress feels different in various sleeping positions. We think it’s nice for stomach and back sleepers but may be a bit too firm for some side sleepers as it lacks sinkage.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
Like all Helix mattresses, the Twilight can support a total of 1,000 pounds or 500 per side. This means it’s excellent for heavier couples, but do keep in mind its firmness and feel and how those fit your weight and body shape.
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – We think lightweight side sleepers will find this bed too firm. There could be pressure buildup on the hips and shoulders because of their inability to activate the comfort layers.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Most average-weight side sleepers are likely to prefer a softer mattress. The Helix Twilight may work for some closer to 230 pounds, but in general, we think it’s too firm for most people in this group.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavier side sleepers may sink deeper and experience more pressure relief. However, we think most people in this group should prefer a bit more sinkage to relieve the pressure around the hips and shoulders.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – We think this bed may work for some lightweight back sleepers, but many might still find it too firm to contour the lower back.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Average-weight back sleepers should feel comfortable depending on their exact weight. However, those closer to 130 pounds may want a softer bed that offers more contouring.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – We expect heavy back sleepers to experience a nice balance of support and pressure relief on this mattress.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – The firmer feel of this bed should work perfectly for lightweight stomach sleepers.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – We think average-weight stomach sleepers should experience enough support to keep the spine aligned and pressure relief to prevent achy shoulders and knees.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – The Helix Twilight is on the firmer side, so we think it should work well for stomach sleepers over 230 pounds. However, those well over 300 pounds should probably look at the Helix Plus or another more supportive mattress.
Pressure Relief
4/5
The Helix Twilight is firmer than most average mattresses, offering robust support and firm foam layers. The memory foam layer has a slow response, which should provide adequate pressure relief for most sleepers. Additionally, there’s a layer of poly foam for some extra cushioning.
Although we think it offers nice pressure relief for back and stomach sleepers, we don’t think it’s the right answer for side sleepers.

Is the Helix Twilight Mattress Good for Pain Relief?
If you have back pain, we think the Helix should provide enough support and relief to help you achieve a good night’s sleep. How well it relieves pain in other areas depends on how you feel about its firmness. If this bed is too firm for your preferred sleeping position, it’s unlikely to relieve pain.
Back Pain
We think the Helix Twilight is great for people with back pain as it has sturdy support coils and firm foam. Lightweight people with back pain may prefer more contouring, in which case we recommend a slightly softer mattress with an equally supportive construction.
Discover the best mattresses for back pain
Hip Pain
Hip pain usually calls for a softer mattress, which is why we think the Helix Twilight may not be the best fit. This mattress is too firm for side sleepers, more so if you have hip pain when sleeping on your side. Discover our picks for the best mattresses for hip pain.
Shoulder Pain
Side sleepers with shoulder pain should look for a softer mattress that has enough support to keep the body aligned with a bit more sinkage. The Helix Twilight is likely too firm unless you’re a bit heavier and a back sleeper. Explore beds for shoulder pain here.
Support
5/5
The Helix Twilight has a layer of sturdy, individually wrapped coils. Above the coils, there are two firm foam layers for additional support. For this reason, we think most people should experience proper spine alignment.
While we found the Helix Twilight offers excellent support, this also depends on your body weight. In other words, stomach sleepers above 300 pounds may not be as well-supported. In this case, we recommend the Helix Plus to keep the hips level.
Motion Isolation
5/5
Even though the Helix Twilight is a hybrid that contains coils, we think it does a good job of isolating motion. Motion isolation is usually not the best in hybrid and innerspring mattresses, but because this model has individually wrapped coils and multiple foam layers, this helps keep motion more isolated to where it originates.
Motion isolation is important for couples and co-sleepers, especially for people who are easily awakened by the smallest movement on the other side of the bed.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
3.5/5
The Helix Twilight is a hybrid mattress, and these are known to have better breathability and airflow than all-foam models. However, this bed has foam layers, and if you know anything about foam, you know it has a heat-trapping nature.
Helix has a breathable soft-touch cover as its standard option. If you’re a hot sleeper, though, the company offers a GlacioTex™ cooling cover upgrade to neutralize the heat and ensure the surface of the bed remains cool. The Luxe version of this bed offers even more cooling features for those who sleep extremely hot.
Browse the Best Cooling Mattresses
Bounce
3.5/5
Although the Helix Twilight has coils, we noticed only a small amount of bounce. This should be enough to help you switch positions but may not be enough if you’re after a particularly bouncy bed.
We think the lack of bounce is due to the foam layers in the Twilight’s construction. These dampen the bounciness and isolate motion from the coils.
Edge Support
5/5
If edge support is something you’re particularly interested in, we think you’ll like the Helix Twilight mattress. Hybrids usually have good edge support if the coils extend from one side to the other, but with this Helix, there’s more. This mattress has two-sided edge support, with reinforced edges on both sides of the bed. As such, it allows minimal compression when sitting on the side, and lying near the edge of the bed feels secure.
Performance for Couples
4/5
We think this bed is a good match for most couples, given that both partners are on board with Twilight’s firmness and feel. There’s excellent motion isolation and edge support that most couples look for, especially if someone is a restless sleeper, potentially waking up the other person.
Although there’s a lack of bounce some sexually active couples prefer, we think there’s much to love about this Helix hybrid. It can handle up to 1,000 pounds, and there’s a lengthy trial, so you can always do a test run of how you and your partner like it.

Preference-Based Features
Hypoallergenic Cover
Helix comes with a standard breathable cover, or you can choose the cooling GlacioTex™ cover upgrade. Both are good for people with allergies because they’re hypoallergenic.
Fiberglass-Free Construction
This mattress has multiple certifications speaking of its quality and materials. However, it’s also important to note that the bed doesn’t contain any fiberglass in any of its layers.
Adjustable Base Compatible
This Helix mattress works with a variety of bed foundations and frames, including adjustable bases. The company recommends their Helix Adjustable Base specifically because they tested how it works with this hybrid.
Handcrafted in USA
Helix mattresses are handcrafted in Phoenix, Arizona.
Construction: What’s Inside the Helix Twilight?
The Helix Twilight has a soft, breathable cover, and as we mentioned, you can upgrade to the GlacioTex™ cooling cover if needed. The cooling cover is meant for hot sleepers and people living in warmer climates who struggle with overheating and sweating.
The mattress is a total of 11.5 inches tall. As a hybrid mattress, this model combines multiple foam layers with an innerspring unit.
- The comfort layer is made from memory foam and sits right below the cover. This material contours the body for pressure relief, providing adequate sinkage and that slow-moving feel that’s synonymous with memory foam.
- The transition layer is made from high-grade poly foam. This layer is firmer than the comfort layer, offering more support and a smooth transition to the coils. Although it’s below the memory foam, we found it has quite an impact on how the bed feels as a whole.
- The support layer features individually wrapped coils that ensure proper alignment, stability, and durability. This layer also has reinforced edges on two sides of the bed.
- The base layer is made from high-density foam, giving the entire mattress more structure and support.
The Luxe version of the Helix Twilight has a similar feel but a few design upgrades. There’s a longer warranty deal, and we found more lumbar support along with additional cooling features.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
The Helix Twilight is a bed-in-a-box mattress with no-contact delivery. We found the unboxing a simple process.
You may notice some initial smell from off-gassing, but this is normal for bed-in-a-box mattresses that contain foam. In our experience, the smell should dissipate within a few days.
Helix says the bed is ready to sleep on after 30 to 45 minutes. Still, we found it takes longer than that for the foam to come to its full size and shape. Plus, you may want to wait longer for that off-gassing smell to dissipate anyway.
Certifications
- Eco-Friendly Certifications – The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.
Coupons, Trials, Warranties, and Shipping
- Shipping – Shipping is free within the contiguous United States.
- Trial – Helix offers a 100-night trial, giving you enough time to test how you like the bed.
- Warranty – This mattress comes with a 10-year warranty.
- Return Policy – Helix accepts returns, but they ask you to keep the mattress for at least 30 days before initiating a return, saying this is how long it takes for the body to adapt to a new bed. If you still don’t like it, you can return it for a full refund before the trial is up.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a Helix mattress last?
Helix doesn’t say how long this mattress should last, but we think it’s around 7 to 10 years since this is how long most mattresses last. Helix offers a 10-year warranty on this bed, so it’s covered for manufacturing failures within that lifespan.
What is the difference between the Helix Midnight and Twilight?
The first difference we noticed was that the Helix Twilight is firmer than the Midnight mattress. For this reason, we think the Twilight model may be better for those who like sleeping on their stomach.
How much does the Helix Twilight mattress weigh?
The Helix Twilight weighs anywhere from 65 to 120 pounds, depending on the size you choose.
Do Helix mattresses get softer over time?
According to Helix, their mattresses may feel firmer for the first few nights. After three or four weeks, after the materials settle into use, the bed should feel as intended.

Our Verdict
Upon testing the Helix Twilight, we think it’s an affordable investment in support, durability, and comfort. People who prefer firmer beds, those with back pain, heavier individuals, and stomach sleepers should find this bed comfortable, experiencing spine alignment, sturdy support, and pressure relief.
We think couples and co-sleepers should also enjoy its motion isolation, edge support, and higher weight capacity. Although it doesn’t have the best bounce and is a bit too firm for side sleepers, we think its benefits make it worth trying out if support is your number one priority. Overall, the Helix Twilight earned a 4.3 out of 5.
