Casper’s new and improved Snow mattress is a hybrid built with cooling in mind. The brand says it has a “gooey” medium feel that creates a pressure-relieving sleep surface. With that somewhat odd description in mind, we offer up the Helix Sunset as a budget-friendly alternative.
The Helix Sunset is Helix’s answer to side sleepers wanting a soft bed to sink into. Thus, it excels in pressure relief—plus, its hybrid construction and cooling cover give it a cooling edge. So, overall, it should work as a great alternative to those considering a Casper Snow.
What’s the Helix Sunset Made Of?
Both of these mattresses are hybrids. The Helix Sunset is 11.5 inches tall with six layers.
- Layer 1 – Top Cover. The standard cover for the Helix Sunset is a soft, temperature-regulating Breathe Knit cover. But for even more cooling, you can upgrade to the GlacioTex™ Cooling Pillow Top for a small fee.
- Layer 2 – Copper Gel Memory Foam. The Helix Sunset has a top layer of memory foam for contouring and pressure relief. It’s infused with copper for a cooler feel than traditional foam.

My Take: The Helix Sunset is one of Helix’s softest mattresses primarily made for side sleepers. But it’s a great option for anyone that wants a soft, supportive hybrid mattress.
What I Liked
- Keeps cool – These two mattresses are designed with cooling in mind. The Casper Snow lives up to its name with its use of cooling Phase Change Material, and the Helix Sunset’s Soft Touch Design cover is extremely breathable. Both beds have innerspring layers with individually-wrapped coils, which deliver more airflow throughout the mattress.
- Helix is a budget option – Price might be the biggest difference between these two mattresses. While a queen-sized Casper Snow costs nearly $2,500, the same sized Helix Sunset costs just under $1,400.
Potential Drawbacks
- Casper isolates motion – However, the Casper Snow is slightly better at isolating motion than the Helix Sunset, making it a better mattress for sensitive sleepers who share the bed.
- Either might be too soft – Both of these mattresses are designed to feel soft and “cloud-like.” We don’t recommend either for those who prefer a firm mattress, sleep on their stomachs, or for heavier sleepers.

If you don’t want to fork over the cash for this dreamy bed, or you just want to weigh your options, allow me to direct your attention to the Emma Hybrid Comfort. This hybrid bed offers a firmer feel but still brings the pressure relief. It also earned high marks for spinal alignment, and we can’t say enough about the budget-friendly price.
What’s the Emma Hybrid Comfort Made Of?
Both the Hybrid Comfort and Dream Hybrid are, you guessed it, hybrid mattresses. The Emma Hybrid Comfort is 13 inches high and has seven five layers plus two covers.
- Layer 1 – Top Cover. A soft cover made with moisture-wicking fibers.
- Layer 2 – Airgocell® Foam. This open-celled foam is cooler than traditional foam and gives the bed its pressure-relieving ability.
- Layer 3 – Memory Foam. The next foam layer contours to your body even as you move.
- Layer 4 – HRX (High Resiliency Extra) Foam. A final layer of supportive foam transitions into the coil unit below it.
- Layer 5 – Coils. Seven zones of individually wrapped coils allow for air to flow through the mattress while coaxing your spine into its proper alignment.
- Layer 6 – Foam Base. A sturdy foam foundation.
- Layer 7 – Lower Cover. The bottom cover keeps the mattress from slipping. It also has handles for ease of movement.
My Take: You won’t sink into the Emma Hybrid Comfort since it isn’t made of cushy memory foam. But it’s a great mattress if you’re looking to stay lifted and aligned on your bed and prefer a firmer feel to ensure support—all at a decent price.
What I Liked
- Emma works on a budget – A queen-sized Emma Hybrid Comfort only costs about $1,320, but frequent sales can bring it down to under $700. A queen Casper Dream Hybrid, on the other hand, costs nearly $2,000.
- Both cool similarly – Both the Hybrid Comfort and the Dream Hybrid use a mix of breathable foams and pocketed coils to keep air moving through the mattress, which allows for some temperature regulation. Potential Drawbacks
- Emma can feel too firm for some – The Emma Hybrid Comfort has a firmer feel thanks to its thinner, firmer foams. This may not work for folks who need a softer bed, like lightweight sleepers or side sleepers seeking a comfortable sink.

The Nectar Premier Copper mattress is Nectar’s answer to luxury. The brand is known for high-quality, affordable mattresses, and this one is no different. This medium-feel bed features cooling copper elements while balancing softness and support.
What’s the Nectar Premier Copper Made Of?
The Snow Max Hybrid is only available in hybrid form, but the Nectar Premier Copper is available in both an all-foam and hybrid option. The Nectar Premier Copper is 14 inches tall and has five layers including its two covers.
- Layer 1 – Cooling Copper Cover. A mix of copper and polyethylene fibers absorb and wick away excess heat for a cool-to-the-touch sleep surface.

- Nectar has foam and hybrid options – Want to sink sumptuously into your mattress? Try the Nectar Premier Copper. Want a bouncy, more lifted feel? Try the Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid. Casper, by comparison, only offers hybrids if you want a cooling bed.
- Nectar’s super nice price – The Casper Snow Max Hybrid is the brand’s most luxurious mattress, so it makes sense it’d drive a high price: $3,745 for a queen. Both the Nectar Premier Copper models are well below this price, even without sales: the Nectar Premier Copper foam mattress is just under $2,000, and the hybrid version is about $300 more. And then the site’s frequent sales would bring this price down even more.
Potential Drawbacks
- Casper may win in the cooling department – If you do go with the Nectar Premier Copper’s foam mattress, the Snow Max Hybrid may trump it in terms of temperature regulation. It features not just a cooling cover and foams, but also a coil unit with individually wrapped springs to keep air flowing. The Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid might be more on par with the Snow Max’s abilities.
- Casper is softer – If you’re a side sleeper or someone of a lighter weight, a softer mattress may benefit you as it should allow for a pressure-relieving sink. The Snow Max Hybrid is a true medium-soft bed, whereas both of the Nectar mattresses are closer to the medium side of the firmness scale. Basically, if you want the softest bed ever, you may want to go with Casper.

What’s the WinkBed Made Of?
Both the Casper and WinkBed are bed-in-a-box mattresses, but the Casper is a foam mattress and the WinkBed is a hybrid. The WinkBed stands 13.5 inches tall. It comes in four different models: Soft, Luxury Firm, Firm, and Plus.
- Tencel™ Cover. Eucalyptus-derived Tencel™ makes for a breathable and soft sleep surface.

What We Liked
- The WinkBed feels cooler – Both beds make a point to address the issue of keeping you cool at night in their design, however, the WinkBed just does it better. This is because the Casper is an all-foam mattress, and even though their top layer of foam is designed to keep things cool, the WinkBed’s innerspring layer allows for more airflow.
- WinkBed’s customizability – The WinkBed comes in a grand total of four unique models, including one made for plus-size sleepers. This means you can buy a bed tailored to your needs and your preferences, based on how soft or firm it needs to be. Casper’s The One only comes in one firmness and should feel about medium-firm.
Potential Drawbacks
- The Casper costs less – If budget is where you draw the line, it’s unfortunate that the WinkBed costs a bit more than a Casper One. A queen Casper mattress will cost you $1,245, whereas a WinkBed will cost $1,799—both before sales or coupons. We think the WinkBed is worth every extra penny, though!
- Motion travels easier on the WinkBed – While both beds take measures to curb motion transfer, Casper has the edge over WinkBed because it’s an all-foam construction. The WinkBed may produce slightly more motion transfer because of its responsive innerspring layer.

What’s the Saatva Classic Made Of?
Both of these are hybrid mattresses, which means they have a layer of innerspring coils along with foam layers.
The Saatva Classic comes in two heights (11.5 inches and 14.5 inches) and three firmnesses (Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm).
- Euro Top. The Saatva’s cover is made from natural cotton that is breathable and treated to resist the growth of unwanted microbes.
- Memory Foam Crown. A crest of memory foam contours to the spine for enhanced lumbar support.
- First Innerspring Unit. Below the foam transition layer is the first layer of innerspring coils, which are zoned to promote alignment.

My Take: If you’re looking for a luxury bed and don’t want to pay an exorbitant price, the Saatva Classic has your back. It features a host of fancy touches, including (but certainly not limited to): two coil units, targeted lumbar support, and a cozy pillow top.
What I Liked
- Saatva has premium delivery – The Saatva is not a bed-in-a-box, meaning it will be delivered to your door fully decompressed and ready to sleep on. There’s also free white glove delivery included with your purchase, meaning a team of workers will help set up your mattress and take your old one away. The Casper will arrive compressed and requires some time for expansion and setup.
- Saatva’s luxury at a fair price – Saatva is considered a luxury brand, and it’s evident from the The Casper Dream Max Hybrid is significantly more expensive than the Saatva Classic. For a Queen size, it costs almost 1,000 dollars more.
Potential Drawbacks
- Neither are super cool – Both of these mattresses are hybrids, which means they’ll provide more airflow and sleep cooler than most beds. However, neither have any dedicated cooling features beside more breathably constructed foams, which could be a problem for those who overheat. - No customizing the Casper – The Dream Max Hybrid only comes in one firmness, which Casper claims is a true “medium-soft” feel.
