Both Novosbed and Amerisleep are brands that deliver serious reliability and quality for a price that’s comparatively affordable.
Today, we’re comparing the Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid with the all-foam Novosbed. While the popular AS3 is also available as an all-foam option, for this comparison, we are specifically reviewing the hybrid model. The Novosbed comes in three firmness options, but we’re focusing on the Medium model, as this mid-range feel appeals to a wider range of sleepers.
Will the AS3’s eco-foam and high-tech cooling cover win you over, or will it be Novosbed’s affordable luxury and soothing pressure relief?

120 nightsWho I’d Recommend the Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid For
- Eco-conscious shoppers – Amerisleep’s memory foam alternative Bio-Pur® is partially made with renewable plant-based oils, allowing the manufacturer to use only a fraction of the non-renewable materials used in traditional memory foams.
- Hot sleepers – The AS3’s Bio-Pur® comfort layer is breathable and cooling, thanks to its open-cell structure allowing for airflow. Combine this with the heat-wicking Refresh Cooling Cover and you’ve got a bed made for sweaty sleepers.
- Couples – With cooling technology, good bounce for sex, minimal motion transfer, and good edge support, we think the AS3 could be a great choice for couples looking for a medium-firm hybrid.
Who I’d Recommend the Novosbed For
- Memory foam fans – While the Amerisleep hybrid has a pressure-relieving memory foam layer, the all-foam Novosbed comes out on top for those who want the slow-moving, minimal bounce of memory foam.
- Shoppers who want firmness options – Do you love the sound of the Novosbed but are unsure if medium-firm is right for you? This model is also available in Soft and Firm variations, offering versatility for shoppers seeking an all-foam bed.
- Shoppers on a smaller budget – The Novosbed offers affordable luxury – at almost half the price of the Amerisleep, it still delivers on pressure relief, durability, and support.
Comparing Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid vs. Novosbed: Top Similarities
- Machine-washable cover – Do you enjoy coffee in bed but are prone to spills? Don’t fret – both the Amerisleep and Novosbed covers can be removed and popped into the washing machine for a thorough cleaning. However, Amerisleep warned us that washing the cover too much may deplete the cooling fibers.
- Firmness – The Novosbed is available in three firmness options, but we reviewed the Medium, which our testers rated as medium-firm. The Amerisleep was also ranked as medium-firm. Mattresses in this range tend to be more versatile and able to accommodate a wider range of body shapes and sleeping positions.
- Not suitable for stomach sleepers – While many side and back sleepers might find either bed a good choice, we think most stomach sleepers will find both the Amerisleep and Novosbed Medium too soft. We’d recommend checking out the Novosbed Firm, which may prevent your hips from sinking to an uncomfortable level.
Comparing Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid vs. Novosbed: Key Differences
- Edge support – Hybrids tend to perform better at edge support than all-foam beds, and from our experience, this is the case with these beds. The Amerisleep’s reinforced coil perimeter provides sturdier support for edge-of-the-bed sleepers than the all-foam Novosbed, which we experienced an element of sinkage with.
- Bounce – The Novosbed’s all-foam layers offer very little in the way of bounce, so if a springier bed is more your style, the Amerisleep may be a more suitable option. We found the AS3’s coil unit provides moderate bounce, allowing for easier repositioning.
- Warranty period – The Novosbed has a 15-year warranty, while the Amerisleep has a longer 20-year warranty. However, with similar constructions and the Novosbed being around half the price of the Amerisleep, its shorter warranty may not bother you too much.
Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel
Firmness
We rate firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest. The Amerisleep AS3 has a medium firmness that we’ve rated 5.5 out of 10. Our team rated the Novosbed a 6 out of 10, which also makes it medium-firm, although the Amerisleep generally feels a bit more plush than the Novosbed.
We think the Amerisleep could best suit light to average-weight side and back sleepers, while average-weight side sleepers and light to average-weight back sleepers may appreciate the Novosbed.
Support
We wouldn’t recommend either bed for heavyweight sleepers as they likely won’t offer enough support – shoppers in this weight category may want to check out the Firm version of the Novosbed.
However, both beds should offer good support for many light to average-weight sleepers. Our team found that the Amerisleep’s zoned coil support system helps keep the lumbar lifted while cushioning the shoulders and hips, while the firmer foams of the Novosbed allow for pressure relief without compromising on that all-important spinal support.
Feel
Our tester, Austin, reported that the Amerisleep’s top cover is a little slippery, though this shouldn’t be an issue once you’ve thrown your sheets on. Another tester, Jennifer, noted how cool the Amerisleep’s cover feels as soon as you place your hand on it.
There’s a similar, albeit less slippery, vibe with the Novosbed, with mattress tester, Stuart, commenting: “The cover feels plush and cool to the touch, as well as durable and stretchy.”
Comparing Sinkage and Bounce
Stuart experienced gentle cradling with the Novosbed, feeling mostly on top of the comfort layer, rather than sinking into it. However, while the lower layer is incredibly responsive, the transition and comfort layers are a little slower to respond, which may be a concern for those with mobility issues, as it has very little bounce.
On the other hand, the Amerisleep’s coil unit does offer some bounce, which we found gave some pushback, offsetting the molding of the memory foam. This will likely make this bed a better choice for combination sleepers and those with mobility issues, who should be able to move around more freely.
Comparing Motion Transfer
“If you have a partner or somebody else who likes to get in and out of bed with you, you should be fine when it comes to motion isolation,” said Stuart about the Novosbed. “They shouldn’t wake you up with their movements.” This is thanks to the slow-moving memory foam comfort layer.
Despite its coil system and moderate bounce, the Amerisleep also offers great motion isolation. The foams and pocketed coils are designed to limit motion transfer, and our team found very little movement on the bed, so you should be able to sleep peacefully despite a restless pet or partner.
Comparing Cooling
The Amerisleep AS3 is designed to sleep cooler, thanks to the breathable, open-cell Bio-Pur® foam and pocketed coils that allow for airflow. Austin loved the cooling Refresh Cover, which the brand claims stays 7 degrees cooler than a polyester cover over an 8-hour period: “I run a bit hot at night and I noticed that this cover wicks away heat to keep you cool.”
While Stuart noted that there aren’t many cooling technologies in the Novosbed, it does feel cool to the touch, and the aerated foam allows heat to move away from the body: “The minimal sinkage in the bed also helps air to reach the sleeper.”
Comparing Construction (Materials & Quality)
Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid Construction
The 12-inch Amerisleep has a cool-to-the-touch Refresh Cooling Cover made with fibers that have incredibly high energy transfer capabilities, drawing heat away from your body and turning it into far infrared energy. This energy promotes blood circulation, helps with muscle recovery, and promotes more restful sleep. The cover is removable and machine-washable.
- The comfort layer is made with the brand’s signature Bio-Pur™ foam and is 3 inches thick. This is an eco-friendly alternative to memory foam that’s partially made with renewable materials. The foam is designed to be responsive, contouring, and pressure-relieving. The ventilated open-cell design offers temperature regulation.
- The support layer features a coil unit, made of 8-inch individually-pocketed coils. This layer is zoned, providing extra support in the lumbar and added pressure relief at the shoulders and knees. Thicker-gauge coils around the perimeter offer edge support
- The base layer consists of a 1-inch piece of supportive base foam, acting as support for the rest of the bed.
Novosbed Construction
This 11-inch all-foam bed starts with an ultra-soft Tencel® stretch-knit cover that’s moisture-wicking, removable and machine-washable. Inside the cover is a two-way stretch elastic core that protects the foam beneath. We’ve reviewed the Medium option for this comparison, though this bed is also available in Soft and Firm.
- The comfort layer has 2 inches of open-cell memory foam that’s designed for airflow, helping to keep you cool. This layer provides pressure relief and motion isolation.
- The transition layer features 2 inches of higher density ReCore™ memory foam, offering body contouring, as well as enhancement of the pressure relief offered by the above layer.
- The base layer consists of 7 inches of premium support foam that’s designed to evenly distribute body weight, providing healthy spine alignment.
The Soft model features a medium-soft gel memory foam comfort layer and medium-soft transition foam, while the Firm version has firmer comfort and transition layers.
Comparing Company Policies & Price
Warranty – A 20-year warranty is offered with the Amerisleep, while a shorter 15-year warranty is provided with the Novosbed.
Shipping – Curbside bed-in-a-box delivery is offered for free across the continental U.S. with both beds. Remote locations such as Alaska and Hawaii will incur additional fees for the Novosbed and you have to arrange your own freight forwarding for such locations with the Amerisleep. The Novosbed also ships free to Canada.
Trial Period – You’ll receive an industry-standard trial period with both beds – the Amerisleep has a 100-night trial, while the Novosbed has a slightly longer 120-night trial.
Returns – Both brands require you to have slept on the bed for a break-in period of at least 30 nights before initiating a return. After this, so long as it’s still within the trial period, you’ll receive a full refund for each, with the mattress collected from you.
Price – Both the Amerisleep AS3 and Novosbed offer premium construction, but the Novosbed is almost half the price, so if you’re in the market for an affordably luxurious all-foam, you may have come to the right place!

Final Thoughts
It’s hard to choose between two great mattresses, but there can only be one you’ll ultimately purchase. For two very different price points and constructions, these mattresses offer very similar benefits.
Both the Novosbed and Amerisleep have great pressure relief and support, a gentle contouring cradle, washable covers, and minimal motion transfer. However, if bounce, good edge support, and high-tech cooling top your list of important features, the Amerisleep could be the one. If affordability, a traditional memory foam feel, and the ability to customize firmness pique your interest, then the Novosbed may win your heart.
