We Recommend Saatva if You are Looking for:
- Multiple comfort options. This mattress is available in Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. Shoppers can also choose between a thicker 14.5-inch bed or a sleek and thin 11.5-inch version.
- A classic innerspring feel. Shoppers should enjoy moderate bounce and quickly responding foams. There should be minimal sinkage present, allowing sleepers to stay closer to the top of the bed.
- Enhanced support. The double coil systems should provide enhanced support that contours to the body, filling the lumbar region. Co-sleepers should notice a consistent feel from edge-to-edge.
We Recommend Buying Helix if You are Looking for:
- Guided comfort options. Helix offers a wide range of comfort feels that are designed to suit people of all kinds of weights and position preferences. A guided quiz will walk shoppers through their mattress purchase to ensure they choose the product that should suit them best.
- A hybrid experience. Buyers should notice a deeper sinkage paired with ample bounce from the coil system below. This should provide comfort and support along with temperature-regulating airflow.
- Enhanced pressure relief. The dense layers of foam in this product should provide enhanced relief, especially in the shoulders and hips which typically burrow deeper into the mattress than the rest of the body. These materials should also reduce motion transfer to minimize disruption.
Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel
Saatva’s Luxury Firm lands at a 6.5 on our comfort mattress scale that ranks items using a 1-10 system. This assumes that 1 is whisper soft and 10 is firm as cement. A 6.5 should feel like a true medium or a medium-firm to most shoppers, though, soft or firm versions of this bed are also available if preferred.
Helix’s wide range of products falls anywhere from a 2 to a 9 on this scale, offering feels from soft to firm and everywhere in between. The Dusk is also rated at a medium to medium-firm 6.
Lying on the Saatva should feel soft and plush due to the Euro top in the cover. The materials should respond quickly, though the foams should take a little longer to reshape in the lumbar support region. Shoppers should notice ample support that contours to the body and promotes a neutral spine.
The Dusk should feel soft and stretchy as you lie on the dual covers. The materials should reshape quickly allowing for easy repositioning. Sleepers should enjoy solid support and gentle pressure relief from the body-contouring materials.
Most sleepers of varying position preferences should do well on either mattress. Soft or firm options can be chosen to suit shoppers’ individual needs. Helix offers dual-sided and big-and-tall products, as well.
Comparing Sinkage and Bounce
Saatva sleepers should enjoy a gentle cradle that keeps you floating on top of the mattress. The Helix Dusk should offer a medium cradle, allowing you to sink deeper “in” the foam, though other models may offer a differing experience.
Typically, innersprings should offer more bounce than a hybrid, but the springy Dynamic Foam inside the Dusk helps it to keep up with the Saatva in terms of bounce. The moderate bounce present in both products should allow combination sleepers to move around easily throughout the night.
Comparing Motion Transfer
Saatva’s innerspring bed should allow a medium amount of motion transfer as energy travels through the dual coil systems. The Dusk’s multiple layers of foam and wrapped springs should reduce the transfer of motion to minimize disruption.
Most sleepers should find either product suits their needs. Shoppers who consider motion transfer a major concern, like those who sleep with partners, children, or pets, may prefer the Helix.
Comparing Edge Support
Both items should offer enhanced edge support, maximizing the usable sleep surface for co-sleepers and sprawlers. Anyone searching for exceptional edge support may want to consider the Saatva, as its two coil units slightly edge out the Dusk containing a single coil system and multiple layers of foam.

Saatva Construction
This is an innerspring mattress containing two coil systems that is shipped right to your door. This product is available in multiple comfort options, though will be focusing on the luxury firm feel.
The mattress features a 3-inch Euro Top that boasts an antibacterial GuardinⓇ treatment that should reduce allergens and triggers. This item is available in 11.5 or 14.5-inch heights. We will focus on the 14.5-inch version and note differences between the two wherever they are relevant.
- The top layer consists of a memory foam and wire system that should provide enhanced support in the lower back region.
- The second layer holds an individually wrapped coil support system. The pocketed springs should react independently to your weight and position to provide pressure relief or support based on your needs.
- The base layer contains steel coils. The company uses recycled steel that is then tempered to create a sturdy foundation for the sleeper and the upper comfort layers.
- The perimeter consists of reinforced foam surrounding the mattress. This should maximize the usable sleep surface, creating a consistent feel from edge-to-edge.

Helix Construction
This is a hybrid bed that combines foam, a latex alternative, and a coil unit. The mattress is compressed for easy box shipping.
Helix offers 9 different products with a variety of comfort feels, 6 of these beds are also available in Luxe versions. We will focus on the construction of the Helix Dusk, which is designed to suit all position preferences with a medium feel.
This 12-inch mattress features two covers designed with different goals in mind. The first polyester cover should feel soft and stretchy. The second Jersey knit cover should be breathable to promote airflow, this layer has a fire barrier woven into it.
- The first layer is a 2-inch Helix Dynamic Foam made up of a latex alternative material blended with polyurethane foam. This section should provide gentle pressure relief and is designed to contour to the body.
- The second layer holds a 1-inch High-Grade Polyfoam. This layer should act as a transition between the comfort and foundation materials. It is designed to offer contouring support and cushioning to the sleeper.
- The third layer consists of 8-inch Wrapped Coils. The coils are individually wrapped to promote motion isolation and should provide compression or pushback depending on your position. The coils along the edge are reinforced to promote enhanced edge support.
- The bottom layer is a 1-inch DurDense Foam that should help absorb motion from the coils above. This should also provide a stable base for the upper comfort materials.
Note: Each mattress should contain the same basic materials, but the construction of each will vary slightly to create each individual comfort feel.
