Cloverlane is a relatively new player in the direct-to-consumer mattress game. Resident, responsible for popular brands such as Nectar and DreamCloud, manufactures these beds and touts them as the pinnacle of luxury and affordability.
Does the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress achieve this lofty goal? After thoroughly evaluating and testing this bed, I will answer this question in this review. Additionally, I will break down the construction and who I think will benefit and enjoy the Cloverlane.
Let’s see if this new mattress on the block is the right choice for you.
Who I Recommend the Cloverlane Memory Foam Mattress For:
- Back sleepers – The memory foam and construction of this mattress provide plenty of lift and buoyancy. I was impressed with how well this mattress performed for back sleepers of all body types.
- Hot sleepers – In its natural state, memory foam can retain heat and make sleepers hot. The Cloverlane addressed this issue by adding a cooling Euro pillow top. In addition to this cover, the bed also uses perforated latex and brass vents for more airflow and breathability.
- Those prioritizing spinal support – This mattress provides excellent lifting for the lower back and solid overall lumbar support. I appreciated that my spine felt aligned in all sleeping positions.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Cloverlane Memory Foam For:
- Heavyweight stomach sleepers – Although I found the Plush Soft model to be more of a medium-firm feel, it still wasn’t supportive enough for heavyweight stomach sleepers. These folks will likely find their hips dipping too far into the mattress, causing awkward spinal positioning.
- Those who prefer a plush mattress – If you’re looking for a truly soft mattress, this brand may not be for you. Cloverlane has a Soft Plush option, but I don’t think the feel matched the description. This mattress had a medium-firm feel.
- Pressure relief seekers – Our pressure map testing showed considerable pressure buildup around the shoulders for all sleeping positions and weight classes. Those looking for a mattress to ease achy joints and muscles may prefer a better mattress for pressure relief.
Customer Reviews of the Cloverlane Memory Foam Mattress
Given that Cloverlane is a relatively new brand, there are only 32 reviews on their website. However, they have a 5-star overall rating and overwhelmingly positive reviews, with multiple customers acknowledging how comfortable they felt on it.
Testing the Cloverlane Memory Foam Mattress
Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
I conducted various hands-on tests to give you a comprehensive overview of the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress, including how it performed in different sleep positions. Additionally, I implemented a temperature gun to evaluate the cooling properties and a seismograph test that records motion. I also thoroughly investigated the construction to ensure the materials’ quality and durability.

Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 6.5/10 (Medium Firm)
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your body type will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers might experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
Mattress firmness reflects how hard or soft a bed feels. Here at Sleep Advisor, other testers and I give these beds a 1-10 firmness rating, with 1 being the absolute softest feel possible and 10 being the hardest.
I tested the Cloverlane Memory Foam Plush Soft option and was surprised to find that it was a medium-firm mattress. I expected this mattress would receive a 4 out of 10 on the firmness scale, but it came in at a 6.5 out of 10.
How Does It Feel?
Although this mattress was firmer than I expected, it was incredibly comfortable, and I loved how the Ache Alleviation Euro pillow top felt cool to the touch. The Lumbar Relief Latex provided an excellent lift for my lower back, and I was impressed with how the spinal support was spot-on in every sleeping position. My only notable issue was the amount of pressure buildup around my shoulders.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
I couldn’t find any specific details on what this bed’s weight capacity is. However, larger sizes, which are also better for couples, can usually support more weight. My best guess is that this bed can probably support between 500 and 1,000 pounds.
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – This mattress felt too firm for lightweight side sleepers. There was a noticeable buildup on our pressure map test. A softer mattress will better serve lightweight side sleepers.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – I felt plenty of cushioning, but the Euro top could have been more forthcoming. While I didn’t notice much pressure buildup, the pressure map test showed there was some.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – The pressure tests also showed pressure buildup for our heavyweight tester, Spencer, but he didn’t notice it. This bed is a good choice for heavyweight side sleepers due to the spinal alignment.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – The foam provides excellent support for spinal alignment for lightweight back sleepers, and the cushiony pillow top should wrap these sleepers in comfort.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – I loved this bed in this position. It was very buoyant, and there was great support for my lower back. As such, I’d say the Cloverlane is a fantastic fit for average-weight back sleepers.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – If you’re a heavyweight back sleeper looking for an amazingly comfortable bed with incredible spinal support, look no further than the Cloverlane Memory Foam.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – This bed offers an ideal firmness level for lightweight stomach sleepers. Their hips should stay lifted as they experience good overall comfort. Our lightweight tester, Loren, said it was the perfect firmness level for her.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Although there was little sinkage around my hips, it didn’t cause any concern or discomfort. I felt plenty of lifting and good spinal support.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – I would suggest heavyweight stomach sleepers avoid this bed. It is too soft for them to get proper support around their hips, which could the lower back to arch.
Pressure Relief
3.5/5
Cloverlane’s website states that the Plush Soft version of this bed is great for pressure relief. I found this to be mostly correct for the hips and back, but you can see in the pressure map images that there was pressure buildup for side sleepers in every weight category. Unfortunately, this is the sleep position that relies on pressure relief the most since there’s more weight concentrated in a smaller area.
Is the Cloverlane Mattress Good for Pain Relief?
The Cloverlane combines comfort and support, making it a great candidate for pain relief, particularly for back sleepers. This bed should keep most sleepers’ spines well-aligned, while the responsiveness will make repositioning easier.
Back Pain
If you experience back pain, the Cloverlane Memory Foam Mattress should be a great option since it’s so supportive. The exception here, though, would be plus-size stomach sleepers above 230 pounds. The reason for this is that the bed may not keep their hips lifted enough to support the lower back, which could worsen pain in this area.
Hip Pain
I recommend heavyweight stomach sleepers avoid this bed as their midsections aren’t likely to be adequately supported, and this could cause or enhance hip pain. However, it performs well for lightweight and average-weight folks who experience hip pain. The firmness, lift, and buoyancy of the Cloverlane should provide plenty of relief for those who experience hip pain.
Shoulder Pain
Pressure buildup was noted around the shoulders for side sleepers in all weight categories. If you’re a side sleeper, this could cause or enhance shoulder pain. That said, people who sleep on their back or stomach and have shoulder pain should do okay on this bed.
Support
4/5
Cloverlane built the support system for their memory foam mattress around their Ache Alleviation Euro top and their Lumbar Relief latex layers. This bed offered plenty of lifting for every sleep position and body type except for heavyweight stomach sleepers. These sleepers will sink too far into the Cloverlane, and this could cause poor spinal alignment and discomfort.
Motion Transfer
3.5/5
Typically, memory foam absorbs motion well. Therefore, I found it curious that the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress had slightly more motion transfer than its hybrid counterpart. The motion transfer wasn’t extreme, but it was enough that couples may want to explore other options.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
4/5
I used a heat gun to record the temperature of the Cloverlane before I started testing, and it was 68 degrees. I noticed the cooling sensation of the pillow top when I first settled in, but it quickly faded, most likely due to the interior foam retaining my body heat.
The bed’s temperature rose around 12 degrees after five minutes of lying on it, and it took less than two minutes for the Cloverlane to return to its original temperature. This bed does a good job keeping sleepers cool, and exceptionally hot sleepers have the option to purchase extra cooling (I didn’t test this feature).
Bounce
4.5/5
The Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress is bouncy. A thin layer of responsive latex under the pillow top helps sleepers move without feeling stuck. This is a great attribute for combination sleepers and sexually active couples. It can also be helpful for those with mobility issues.
Edge Support
4/5
Beds with good edge support allow couples and co-sleepers to utilize all the surface area, and it can also help you get in and out of bed easily. The Cloverlane has solid edge support. There was some sinkage when sitting on the edge of the bed, and the more you weigh, the further you sink.
Performance for Couples
4/5
Sleeping with a partner or pet presents additional conditions for your mattress. The Cloverlane is a good mattress for couples as it has solid edge support, bounce, and cooling scores.
Although I would have liked to have seen better motion isolation, unless you have a particularly restless partner, it shouldn’t cause a big problem. I was a fan of how responsive this mattress was, and I think sexually active couples will also like it.

Preference-Based Features
- Extra Cooling Available
Cloverlane mattresses have a cooling cover, but hot sleepers can choose the Extra Cooling option made from heat-wicking materials woven into the cover.
- Multiple Firmness Options
The Cloverlane is available in three different firmnesses: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm.
- Zoned Spinal Support System™
Cloverlane’s Euro top and lumbar relief latex combination promotes spinal alignment and extra support.
Construction: What’s Inside the Cloverlane?
Cloverlane mattresses are 15 inches tall and feature a Euro-style pillow top with a cooling cover. I loved that it felt cool to the touch. Although the pillow top wasn’t as cushiony as I expected, the foam was comfortable.
- Below the Euro top, you’ll feel the extra cushion from the gel memory foam that reacts to your body’s shape and pressure points.
- Next, you’ll find a .5-inch layer of antimicrobial latex. This layer helps promote spinal alignment. Also, latex is naturally cooling (a plus for hot sleepers), and it provides pressure relief.
- The transitional support layer is the 2.5-inch foam unit that acts as a barrier between the base and the topmost layers. This layer absorbs motion and helps distribute body weight.
- The transitional layer is supported by 9 inches of foam. The firmness here will vary depending on your selected level. This material helps deliver stabilization and motion isolation.
- The shift-resistant lower cover keeps the mattress in place. It also has 16 brass vents that help air flow freely so the bed can stay cool. Additionally, I was a big fan of the sturdy handles on the side of this section, as they make the mattress easy to move.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
Cloverlane mattresses are full-size at the time of delivery. They are not rolled up and shipped in boxes. Since they’re not compressed, you shouldn’t have to worry about off-gassing, which is when the gasses trapped in a product are released into the air. If you’re sensitive to smells and want to avoid off-gassing, this is a quality about the Cloverlane you’ll appreciate.
Certifications
- CertiPUR-US® certified – The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

- Cloverlane recently opened their first manufacturing facility in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The brand is expected to create 100 jobs.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should you change a memory foam mattress?
Higher-quality memory foam mattresses typically last eight to 10 years. You will likely need to replace memory foam beds made with lower-quality materials after five years. The timespan may vary depending on how much you use it, the weight of the users, and if it’s well-maintained.
Are Cloverlane mattresses made in the USA?
No, Cloverlane mattresses aren’t made in the USA. Cloverlane states that their materials are internationally sourced to provide the best possible quality. Additionally, the company says that all materials used in their mattresses pass strict U.S. guidelines before being shipped.
How long does a memory foam mattress take to expand?
Typically, memory foam mattresses start expanding as soon as they are unboxed. However, it can take up to 72 hours for them to reach their full size. There is no reason to worry if their mattress hasn’t expanded before then, especially if you have a bigger bed.

My Verdict
The Cloverlane may be a rookie in the direct-to-consumer mattress game, but it’s a strong player. After thoroughly testing this mattress, I was most impressed with its comfort. That said, I also appreciated its performance in specific categories such as support, bounce, and cooling.
I gave it an overall ranking of 3.9 out of 5. If the bed did better at isolating motion and relieving pressure for side sleepers, I think that the Cloverlane could be an all-star. However, if these categories aren’t dealbreakers for you, I think this bed has a lot to offer.
