Purple, a mattress brand known for their unique polymer GelFlex Grid ™, has a variety of mattresses in their inventory. Along with my other lead product tester, Julia, I tested four of Purple’s top models: Purple, NewDay, RestorePlus™, and RejuvenatePlus™ to see how they compare and differ.
In this comparison, I will review each mattress individually and let you know how they compare and contrast to each other. If you have been considering a new mattress, this article should help you decide if one of Purple’s offerings is right for you.

Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
To provide you with a thorough and accurate assessment of mattresses, we put each one through a series of performance tests. These tests highlight how the bed delivers in areas such as support, pressure relief, cooling, motion isolation, and others. We also evaluate the materials and the durability of the construction.
Once the tests and evaluations are complete, we better understand what type of sleepers would best match these beds, and we can bring our unbiased opinion to you.

100 nightsWho I’d Recommend the Purple For
- Average-weight side sleepers – The Purple is supportive for these sleepers but also provides an almost weightless feeling for the parts of the body that come into contact with the mattress.
- Hot sleepers – The structure of this bed’s unique grid helps dissipate body heat. I was impressed with the lack of heat buildup when testing the Purple.
- Pressure relief seekers – If you experience pressure buildup around your shoulder, hips, or back when you sleep, the Purple could be a welcome relief. This bed gently contours around you and provides good pressure relief.
Who I’d Recommend the Purple NewDay For
- Stomach sleepers – This mattress should provide excellent spinal alignment by keeping the hips elevated for lightweight and average-weight stomach sleepers.
- Children – Given that most children weigh less than adults, I think this bed would provide good cushioning and prevent them from sinking too far into the bed.
- Those who like a bouncy bed – With materials that are quick to react to weight, I think the NewDay is a great choice for combination sleepers and those with mobility issues.
Who I’d Recommend the Purple RestorePlus™ For
- Hybrid bed fans – The RestorePlus™ combines the unique GelFlex Grid™ with comfort foam and edge-to-edge coils to bring sleepers comfort, support, and pressure relief.
- Shoppers who value choices – I like that the RestorePlus™ offers Soft and Firm options. This gives sleepers choices when they are making their purchase.
- Lightweight sleepers – The soft version of this bed should provide lighter sleepers cushioning around their hips, shoulders, and back without compromising their spinal alignment.
Who I’d Recommend the Purple RejuvenatePlus™ For
- Luxury shoppers – The Purple RejuvenatePlus™ is made with top-of-the-line materials, which also means it comes with a hefty price tag. Those with a larger budget might consider this bed.
- Fans of Euro tops – This mattress has a cushioned Euro top that may remind you of a hotel bed.
- Sleepers who like taller beds – Coming in at over 15 inches tall, the RejuvenatePlus™ cuts an impressive profile in the bedroom.
Comparing Purple Mattresses: Top Similarities
- Cooling capabilities – All four mattresses employ a version of the brand’s unique hyper-elastic grid that prevents heat from building up as you sleep.
- Unique feel – Considering that you won’t find Purple’s GelFlex Grid™ in any other brand, I think these beds will provide a sleeping experience different from any other mattress.
- Sleep trial and warranty – The four Purple mattresses that Julia and I tested come with a 100-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty.
Comparing Purple Mattresses: Key Differences
- Delivery – The Purple and the Purple NewDay are shipped to you for free, but the setup will be up to you. The RestorePlus™ and RejuvenatePlus™ come with complimentary white-glove delivery, which means professionals set up your new mattress for you.
- Cost – The hybrid RestorePlus™ and RejuvenatePlus™ models are part of Purple’s luxury line and are considerably more expensive than the Purple and the Purple NewDay.
- Type of bed – Although all four beds use the GelFlex Grid™, the Purple and the Purple New Day are also constructed with poly foam, while the RestorePlus™ and RejuvenatePlus™ also include coils in their design.
Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel
Firmness
We rate a mattress’ firmness on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest. The four Purple mattresses in this comparison range from a plush soft to a solid firm.
The Purple should be a good choice if you prefer a genuinely soft bed as it came in at a 4 out of 10. The pliant GelFlex Grid™ on this model allows it to mold around your body.
At a 5 out of 10, the RestorePlus™ is a little more firm than the brand’s original model, but I still found it very soft. For those who like a not-too-soft but not-too-hard bed, I’d recommend checking out the medium-firm Purple NewDay, which falls at a 6.5 out of 10.
Heavyweight, combination sleepers and those who like to sleep atop their bed will likely enjoy the firm feeling of the RejuvenatePlus™. I rate it an 8 out of 10.
Support
The support for the Purple, NewDay, RestorePlus™, and RejuvenatePlus™ originates from the GelFlex Grid™. In addition to the unique grid, the Purple uses two layers of poly foam for its base, and the edges are reinforced with denser foam for edge-to-edge support.
The NewDay uses slightly denser foam than the Purple. An edge support layer goes around the grid, which helps provide more stability around the perimeter. However, I thought this bed felt like sleeping on a wet sponge. Its support seemed much different than the other mattresses.
The RestorePlus™ and the RejuvenatePlus™ are hybrid models that use coils as part of their support system. While I felt supported on both of these beds, my hips sank a little too far into the RestorePlus™, and I think that this may cause spinal issues over time. I felt that the RejuvenatePlus™ excelled in this category, and I would recommend it for those looking for a supportive bed.
Feel
All of the Purple mattresses I tested have a unique feel due to the malleable GelFlex Grid™. With the Purple, I found the grid made the bed feel springy, making it easy to change positions. The RejuvenatePlus™ has a Euro top, and I immediately felt its cushioning. Although I found this comfortable, I didn’t feel as much pressure relief on this mattress as I did on the Purple and RestorePlus™.
In addition to providing excellent pressure relief, I noticed how I could feel heat moving away from my body when lying on the RestorePlus™. However, unlike the other models, the NewDay’s grid didn’t seem to help with cooling or pressure relief, and it reminded me of a wet sponge.
Comparing Sinkage and Bounce
These Purple beds excelled in bounce. I noticed how the GelFlex Grid™ that is incorporated into all models provided an immediate spring-back on the surface. This makes any of these beds good choices for combination sleepers, sexually active couples, and people with mobility issues.
Read More: Best Mattress for Sex
I didn’t notice a lot of sinkage during the testing of these mattresses. Still, it should be noted that a soft bed such as the Purple won’t elevate you as much as firmer ones like the RejuvenatePlus™, and this is particularly true if you are a stomach or heavyweight sleeper. Overall, I felt that my spine stayed neutral and didn’t feel stuck in any of the Purple models.
Comparing Motion Transfer
Motion isolation refers to a bed’s ability to prevent the effects of a sleeper’s movements from traveling to other parts of the bed. Like the Purple models I tested, mattresses that excel in bounce tend not to do as well when it comes to motion transfer.
I found this to be true for Purple, NewDay, and RestorePlus™. The seismograph test picked up on a lot of movement with these three, and I would not recommend them for couples or other co-sleepers. However, the Rejuvenate Plus™ performed considerably better than its three counterparts. This was mainly because the Euro top and comfort layers suppress motion.
Explore the Best Beds for Couples.
Comparing Cooling
If you get hot when you sleep, you will likely find cooling comfort in any of the four Purple mattresses in this review. Purple’s GelFlex Grid™ is designed to draw heat away from the body. I found this particularly true with the Purple, RestorePlus™, and NewDay. While these mattresses don’t necessarily feel cool to the touch, they are incredibly breathable and prevent body heat from building up in the mattress.
Considering that the grid in the RejuvenatePlus™ is covered with a dense Euro top, I didn’t feel my body heat dissipating as I did with the Purple or the RestorePlus™. While I found the cover crisp and comfortable, it wasn’t cool to the touch, and I’d recommend hot sleepers look for a cooling mattress.

Purple Construction
The Purple comprises three layers and comes in at 9.25 inches. This mattress has a breathable cover made from SoftFlex, polyester, viscose, and lycra.
- Purple’s proprietary GelFlex™ Grid is the first 2-inch layer that provides cooling and pressure relief. This layer also helps equalize pressure and distribute weight evenly. It stays in a supportive upright position when it is not releasing pressure.
- Edge support foam that increases stability makes up the layer under the grid. However, when testing this bed, I wasn’t particularly impressed with its performance.
- A unit of comfort foam is found under the edge support layer. The foam in this spot conforms and cradles the body, and this layer helps transition the sleeper from the top to the supportive base.
- The final layer is made of a sturdy foam that stabilizes the above layers. This is the primary support system for the mattress and your body. The base keeps sleepers from sinking too far into the mattress.

Purple NewDay Construction
At 8 inches tall, the NewDay has the lowest profile of all the Purple mattresses we tested. This bed has a flexible SoftFlex cover that adapts to how the grid moves and should provide enhanced durability over the life of the mattress.
- The first layer of this mattress consists of Purple’s unique GelFlex Grid™. Although this is featured in all the mattresses we tested, the NewDay’s grid felt soggy, and I wouldn’t say I liked it. However, it does offer good breathability.
- The middle of this bed goes around the grid’s perimeter to provide edge support and additional structure. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel this layer provided adequate edge support.
- The base is made from denser foam that provides structure and stability. This base support layer also helps keep your spine aligned and prevents you from sinking too far into the mattress.

Purple RestorePlus™ Construction
The RestorePlus™ is a hybrid bed designed and constructed as one of Purple’s luxury offerings. You can choose between a Soft or a Firm option for this bed, but I tested the Soft model. This model has a 13-inch profile.
- The top layer of this mattress consists of a cover made from an antimicrobial and moisture-wicking material called SoftFlex. The cover’s breathability allows for heat to escape.
- Moving further down, you’ll find the GelFlex® Grid, the unique polymer that helps keep the bed cool and relieves pressure by adapting to the body’s curves.
- Next up is edge support foam that runs outside the grid. These materials allow the entire surface of the bed to be utilized and make it easier to get in and out of bed.
- The ultra-comfort foam here provides additional pressure relief and cooling properties.
- The bottom unit is made up of three-zone responsive coils. The zoning allows these coils to provide enhanced support for the heavier areas of the body. The 8-inch coils also promote airflow.

Purple RejuvenatePlus™ Construction
The RejuvenatePlus™ is a hybrid bed also containing coils. With a profile of 16.5 inches, it is considerably taller than the other Purple models. This bed is also part of Purple’s luxury line, and this upgraded model has a quilted comfort cover with an antimicrobial finish.
- The RejuvenatePlus’s™ top layer consists of a soft, cozy Euro top. This cushiony unit is made with active response comfort foam that provides pressure relief and quickly regains its shape.
- Purple’s GelFlex Grid™ is underneath the Euro top. This proprietary structure provides added support and helps dissipate body heat. These layers’ edges are reinforced with foam to help support your body weight.
- Below the grid, two dual foam comfort layers are a transition from the soft top layers to the supportive coils below.
- The base layer of the RejuvenatePlus™ is made up of pocketed coils. The coils have been zoned so that they offer more support around the heavier parts of the body, which helps keep your spine aligned throughout the night.

Final Thoughts
When reviewing Purple’s offerings, it’s a case of so many mattresses, so little time. However, by comparing four of their popular options — the Purple, NewDay, RestorePlus™, and RejuvenatePlus™ — I was able to bring you a variety of firmness levels, price points, and mattress types. Ultimately, though, this decision is about what comes down to you and your needs in a mattress.
I think it will be a unique experience with any of these mattresses, and other than the NewDay, which I didn’t find supportive enough, I believe these are a solid choice for many sleepers.
