Firmness

Both the Saatva HD and WinkBeds Plus have a firmer feel, but the Saatva HD is firmer overall. We rated the Saatva an 8 out of 10 and the WinkBed Plus at 6.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale. This means the Saatva HD mattress is firm, whereas the Plus by WinkBeds is medium-firm. Both of these are suitable for heavier people, so it’s just a matter of choosing one of the two based on your personal preference. If you like more of an ‘on top’ of the mattress feel, opt for the Saatva, while those who like a bit more softness may enjoy the WinkBeds Plus more.

Support

These beds have heavy-duty, anti-sag support systems designed to cater to heavier people. Saatva has a patented spinal support technology that supports the lumbar area, as well as increased support in the center with reinforced edges. The WinkBeds has a latex layer with seven support zones and an additional Lumbar Layer for some extra support in the lower back.

Both mattresses are innerspring beds with individually-wrapped coils that act as the main support systems in both models.

Feel

When you first lie on the Saatva HD mattress, you’re likely to feel the contouring of the Euro top. However, you’re likely to feel more “on” the bed instead of “in” it. Sleepers should also feel the bounce coming from its classic hybrid design and latex.

The WinkBeds Plus mattress feels cool-to-the-touch thanks to its Tencel™ cover and gel infusions in the first layer. The bed feels equally bouncy, and there’s sufficient contouring from its Euro top.

Comparing Sinkage and Bounce

The Saatva HD and WinkBeds Plus are both innerspring mattresses, so you can expect plenty of bounce. In addition, both beds have latex transition layers – the Saatva has Talalay latex, whereas the WinkBeds uses Dunlop latex. These layers give them extra bounce, making it easy to get in and out of bed.

When it comes to sinkage, it’s important to note that both models have Euro tops that allow enough contouring for pressure relief. However, the exact level of sinkage depends on the sleeper’s weight since most people under 150 may not be heavy enough to activate the comfort layers meant to provide pressure relief.

Comparing Motion Transfer

Motion transfer is another major concern for most people, especially those who share their mattress with a partner, a child, or a pet. Sadly, due to its bouncy coil-and-latex construction, the Saatva HD mattress is not the best choice if motion isolation is your main concern.

Saatva HD Construction

The Saatva HD is 15.5 inches tall, which makes it one of the tallest models out there. A 3-inch Euro top layer made from hypoallergenic cotton kicks off the mattress’s construction, while an organic cotton cover wraps around the entire bed.

• The first layer under the Euro top contains Talalay latex enhanced by zoned support. Sleepers should feel a firmer sensation in their lumbar area and a softer sensation by their head and shoulders.
• The comfort layer is made from memory foam and has a slow response to contour and relieve pressure.
