Who I’d Recommend the Nolah For

• All-foam fans who sleep hot – Love an all-foam bed but hate the heat buildup? The Nolah features a breathable Tencel™ cover and cooling AirFoam™, which work together to keep you temperature-neutral. 
• Sleepers with joint pain – We think the slightly softer Nolah may provide more pressure relief for those with joint pain than the WinkBed thanks to its top layer of AirFoam™. According to Nolah, this material provides four times more pressure relief than standard memory foam.
• Shoppers who want the option of white-glove delivery – WinkBed doesn’t offer white-glove delivery, but Nolah can provide old mattress removal and new mattress set-up for an extra fee.

Who I’d Recommend the WinkBed For

• Shoppers who want comfort options – The Nolah has a single firmness option while the WinkBed has four – Softer, Luxury Firm, Firmer, and Plus. If you like the sound of this hybrid bed, there’s bound to be a firmness level that suits you. 
• Pillow top fans – If you love the feel of a pillow top, the WinkBed’s gel-infused Euro top may appeal to you as it offers cooling comfort and excellent pressure relief. 
• Heavyweight sleepers – While both beds cater well to the needs of light to average-weight sleepers, the Luxury Firm WinkBed will likely provide better support than the Nolah for heavier sleepers over 230 pounds. The brand also offers a Firmer and Plus model, which should also serve this weight category well.  

Comparing Nolah vs. WinkBed: Top Similarities

• Cooling technology – Both beds feature moisture-wicking Tencel™ covers to help keep the surfaces of the beds cool. The Nolah’s AirFoam™ is designed to be 100 percent temperature-neutral while the gel-infused pillow top and airflow-promoting coil unit of the WinkBed also help regulate temperature. 
• Sinkage – Our team found that both beds have a gentle cradle, keeping you more on top of the mattresses than in them. This may be preferable for combination sleepers who move around in the night because it can make it easier to adjust positions.
• Trial and warranty – Both beds come with an industry-standard trial period of 120 nights and a lifetime warranty. These features should give you plenty of time to ensure you’ve made the right choice, as well as lots of peace of mind. 

Comparing Nolah vs. WinkBed: Key Differences

• Motion transfer – Despite its innerspring unit, the WinkBed performed well in motion isolation tests, thanks to the stabilizing gel foam situated above the coil unit. However, the all-foam Nolah edged ahead in this department, and this may make it more suitable for those who are easily disturbed by a co-sleeper’s movements. 
• Edge support –  We found the Nolah performed as expected for edge support, considering it’s an all-foam model; we experienced some compression while lying on the edge. Couples who like to spread out may prefer the sturdier WinkBed hybrid, which features a reinforced coil perimeter.
• Bounce – The all-foam Nolah offered minimal bounce, while the WinkBed provided some bounce from its coil unit. Though this bounce is somewhat dampened by the top foam layers, it’s certainly more springy than the Nolah. Nolah’s lack of bounce may be a dealbreaker for couples seeking a mattress for sex, combination sleepers, or those with mobility issues. 

Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel 

Firmness 

Our firmness scale assigns rankings between 1 and 10 for each mattress, with 10 being the firmest feel. The Nolah Original mattress scored a 5 on this scale, making it a medium-plush mattress This should work for many sleepers, though side sleepers may be particularly drawn to this softer feel. 

WinkBed’s Luxury Firm sits at a 6.5, which is medium-firm. This should be ideal for back sleepers and light to average-weight stomach sleepers. 

Support 

We think light to average-weight sleepers may do well on either bed. Although some heavyweight side sleepers may feel well-supported on the Nolah, we think most heavyweight sleepers will likely prefer the WinkBed, which offers more support with its zoned coil unit. “The zoned coils provide plenty of pressure relief for my shoulders and hips, which I really appreciate,” noted, Sean, one of our testers who is also a plus-size sleeper. 

The WinkBed also offers better edge support thanks to its reinforced perimeter coils. 

Feel 

When Sean tested the Nolah, he loved the cover. “It has a soft, plush feel with a bit of stretch, and bounces right back into place,” he said.  The materials on this mattress reshaped faster than traditional memory foam material but slightly slower than latex. 

We had a similar experience on the WinkBed as it also features a moisture-wicking  Tencel™ cover, which feels cool and stretchy. The innerspring unit allowed the foam to reform slightly quicker than the Nolah and we didn’t feel stuck. 

Comparing Sinkage and Bounce 

Both beds offer gentle sinkage. “The gel-infused foam in the top layer offers pressure relief and a gentle cradle that feels great when I’m sleeping on my side,” reported Sean on the WinkBed. 

Another of our testers, Stuart, loved the Nolah for side sleeping:  “These foams really take the strain off my hips and shoulders.”

Our team reported very minimal bounce on the Nolah, as its all-foam construction dampened most movements. The WinkBed provided minimal bounce in the upper foam layers, with a deeper bounce once the coils become activated.

The WinkBed may be slightly more ideal for combination sleepers as it offers a quicker response time and more overall bounce. 

Comparing Motion Transfer

The all-foam Nolah performed best in our motion isolation tests.  “There’s almost no motion transfer at all in this bed; it’s super minimal,”  Stuart shared. 

While the WinkBed wasn’t quite as good at isolating movement, it still performed well for a hybrid. “The WinkBed might not provide the same level of motion absorption as an all-foam bed but the coils respond individually, which does help to prevent too much movement,” reported Sean. “The layer of stabilizing gel foam above the coils helps to reduce transfer as well.” 

However, if you’re a particularly light sleeper with a restless partner, your best bet may be the Nolah. 

Comparing Cooling 

Our team found both beds slept temperature-neutral. The Nolah has a breathable, moisture-wicking cover, which provides a cool surface. The brand claims its AirFoam™ comfort layer is 100 percent temperature-neutral and sleeps cooler than gel-infused foam, and our testers felt comfortably cool on it. 

“The WinkBed feels cool to the touch when you lie on it, thanks to the Tencel™ cover and cooling gel foam,” Sean said. As a hybrid, the WinkBed sleeps slightly cooler than the all-foam Nolah, as the coil unit allows for more airflow. So, while hotter sleepers may prefer the WinkBed, we think all but the hottest sleepers should remain temperature-neutral on the Nolah. 

Comparing Construction (Materials & Quality)

Nolah Construction 

The Nolah Original is an all-foam mattress that is compressed and shipped in a box.

This 10-inch bed features a Tencel™ cover created with wood pulp from the eucalyptus tree. It is designed to wick moisture, promoting a cooler sleep experience.

• The comfort layer contains cooling Nolah AirFoam™ that’s 2 inches thick. Microscopic air bubbles help the foam to remain temperature-neutral as it contours the body to relieve pressure buildup. According to Nolah, their lab tests show that this foam dissipates heat 20 percent faster than premium memory foam and offers up to 300 percent more durability.
• The transition layer holds a 1-inch high-resilience foam, which the brand claims is stronger and more durable than memory foam. This section should provide sturdy support.
• The bottom layer contains 7 inches of breathable, high-density base foam that should provide a durable foundation for the upper comfort materials. 

WinkBed Construction 

This 13.5-inch hybrid mattress is delivered compressed in a box. The cover boasts a eucalyptus-derived Tencel™ blend that should promote temperature regulation. There are four firmness options, but we will focus on the construction of the Luxury Firm model since that’s what we tested.

• Quilted to the cover is a Euro top that contains 2 inches of gel-infused Hypersoft foam. This material should provide pressure relief and temperature control. 
• The transition layer contains 2.5 inches of stabilizing gel foam that’s designed to minimize motion transfer.
• The innerspring layer holds 8-inch tall pocketed coils made from recycled steel. This unit features five support zones, allowing for firmer support or gentle pressure relief where your body needs it most. Reinforced coils around the perimeter make up the Extra-Edge™ Support System, providing edge support.
• The base layer is made up of a 1-inch poly foam that should help absorb some motion from the coils above for additional motion control. 

Comparing Company Policies & Price

Warranty – The Nolah Original and the WinkBed both come with a generous lifetime warranty.

Shipping – Both beds come with free bed-in-a-box shipping across the contiguous U.S., with neither bed offering shipping for Alaska or Hawaii. Nolah also offers the option of old mattress removal and/or new mattress set-up for an extra charge.

Trial Period – There’s a 120-night trial period in place for both of these beds. 

Returns – You’re required to have slept on each bed for at least 30 nights before submitting a return, which must be within the trial period. You’ll receive a full refund for both, however, there’s a transportation fee when you return the Nolah. 

Price – The WinkBed and Nolah Original sell for pretty similar prices, with the WinkBed coming in slightly more expensive than the Nolah.

Final Thoughts 

Both companies offer quality products that should provide a great night’s sleep. 

Shoppers who prefer minimal bounce, enhanced motion control, a softer feel, and extra pressure relief should opt for the all-foam Nolah. The WinkBed should work well for people searching for moderate bounce, enhanced edge support, multiple comfort options, and extra cooling. While light to average-weight sleepers may love either bed, we think heavyweight sleepers over 230 pounds may do well on the more supportive WinkBed, though they may also consider the Firm or Plus WinkBed models.
