Brentwood Home wants customers to get the best night’s sleep that money can afford. The brand is focused on selling handcrafted products made from natural materials designed to promote a quality and eco-friendly sleeping experience.

Who We Recommend The Brentwood Home Crystal Cove For:
- Variety seekers – We think this mattress is an excellent match for those who want a versatile model. On one side, you get a plush feel while the firmer side focuses on responsive support.
- Environmentalists – Brentwood Home gives customers the opportunity to save the planet one bed at a time. The materials in this product are GREENGUARD Gold and Certi-PUR-US® certified. It’s also 100 percent certified vegan by Vegan Action, meaning no animal products or byproducts were used to make this mattress.
- Shoppers who appreciate companies that give back – For each Crystal Cove Mattress sold, the company builds one ReliefBed for charity. These are beds that have been designed and constructed for the homeless. Additionally, the company donates to the National Forest Foundation.
Who We Don’t Recommend The Brentwood Home Crystal Cove For:
- People who prefer all-foam beds – Although there is a total of 5 inches of foam layers in the Crystal Cove, including both memory foam and latex materials, it’s still a hybrid that also incorporates the use of a coil unit. This may be a drawback for those who enjoy the feel of an all-foam mattress.
- People who don’t like bouncy beds – We wouldn’t say the Crystal Cove is the bounciest mattress out there, there’s still plenty of responsiveness coming from the coils and latex. Hybrids with coils and memory foam aren’t as responsive, but this model has latex as well, making the Firm side of the bed rather bouncy. If you want less bounce and more of a slow-moving feel, then you might like a more traditional memory foam mattress.
First Impressions: Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 4.5-5/10 (Medium-Soft Side) 7/10 (Medium-Firm Side)
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
We rate mattress firmness on a scale of 1 to 10, in which 10 is the firmest. The Brentwood Home Crystal Cove mattress is unique in that has two sides with different firmness levels to give sleepers more variety.
The memory foam side is softer, and we rated it a 4.5-5 out of 10. We think this is perfect for side sleepers and people who often struggle with pressure buildup. The other side, the one with latex, is firmer at 7 out of 10. We think this side is better for heavier sleepers and those who like sleeping on their stomach.
How Does It Feel?
The Medium-Soft side of Crystal Cove is furnished with Flow Foam and memory foam in the comfort layers, nestling the sleeper in a gentle cradle. We feel like this side is less bouncy than the latex side, but the coils in the middle should make rolling over to reposition easier.
The Medium-Firm side delivers better bounce than the opposite end. The latex foam on top helps the sleeper rest in a minimal cradle, and the responsive top makes repositioning a breeze.
What We Like About the Brentwood Home Crystal Cove
- Dual firmness – This mattress is flippable, featuring one softer and one firmer side. This gives you plenty of versatility, allowing you to go back and forth between the sides, depending on how you feel and what you prefer.
- Longer trial and warranty – This mattress comes with a 365-night trial, giving customers ample time to test how they like the bed. On top of that, it comes with a 25-year warranty.
- Mindful design – The company designed this mattress for active people and people who want more restful sleep in general. The activated charcoal-infused memory foam and precision-tuned coils deliver a balance of pressure relief and support that most sleepers will benefit from.
Our Brentwood Home Crystal Cove Complaints
- The price – This flippable mattress is on the pricey side, so it may not be the best for budget shoppers. It’s not the most expensive bed out there, but with the Queen being around 1,500 dollars, it may be out of some people’s budgets.
- Not for light sleepers – Light sleepers who are easily awakened by their restless partners may not like the motion transfer in this bed. We think it sports good motion isolation considering it’s a hybrid with latex, but extremely light sleepers may prefer something entirely made of foam.
Testing the Brentwood Home Crystal Cove Mattress: How it Performed
Testing mattresses allows us to provide in-depth and honest reviews. We test beds in multiple positions, helping sleepers figure out if a certain model would work for their sleep style. We also look at bounce, support, pressure relief, motion isolation, and more.

Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
The Brentwood Home Crystal Cove mattress has a 675-weight limit. However, another thing to keep in mind is the firmness; the softer side may not be the best for anyone weighing over 130 pounds, as it would allow too much sinkage to keep the body aligned.
Weight | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers | Stomach Sleepers |
Lightweight Sleepers (-130 lbs) | ★★★ | ★★★ | ★★★ |
Average-Weight Sleepers (130-230 lbs) | ★★★ | ★★★ | ★★★ |
Heavyweight Sleepers (+230 lbs) | ★★☆ | ★★☆ | ★★☆ |
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight side sleepers should enjoy the softer side of the Crystal Cove mattress. This side allows more sinkage and better pressure relief for those under 130 pounds.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – We think average-weight side sleepers should also stick to the softer side, although some may prefer the firmer one. Those closer to 230 pounds may want a firmer surface that allows better spine alignment.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavy side sleepers should stick to the firmer side of the Crystal Cove mattress as it doesn’t allow as much sinkage, offering better support and spine alignment.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Back sleepers weighing under 130 pounds can get away with using both sides of this flippable mattress. Those who want more pressure relief in the lower back should try the softer side, whereas those who need more support in the hips can flip the mattress over.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Back sleepers weighing up to 230 pounds can also pick between the sides. We think those closer to 170 pounds would find the firmer side more comfortable as it provides better support to keep the hips aligned in this position.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavy back sleepers should sleep on the firmer side that has coils right under the comfort layer. This enhances support and prevents the hips from sinking too deeply into the mattress.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight stomach sleepers can get away with using the softer side, although we think some may find it too soft. Luckily, you can just flip the mattress over and enjoy a firmer sleeping surface.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Average-weight stomach sleepers need a bit more support, so we’d suggest the firmer side, especially for those weighing closer to 230 pounds.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Most heavy stomach sleepers should get sufficient support from the firmer side of the Crystal Cove mattress. However, those over 300 pounds may want an even firmer mattress.
Pressure Relief
4/5
The Medium-Soft side features two comfort layers aimed at alleviating pressure. The first is the Flow Foam, a plush layer that’s made to contour your body so you can rest in a relaxing cradle.
Memory foam is a popular bedding material thanks to its ability to provide excellent pressure relief. Below the Flow Foam on the bed’s plush side is 2 inches of memory foam infused with charcoal for added cooling and contouring.
Meanwhile, the latex layer on the Medium-Firm side offers zoned pressure relief.
Is the Brentwood Home Crystal Cove Mattress Good for Pain Relief?
We think the strategically placed layers of this hybrid mattress should help alleviate pressure and pain in various body parts, including the back, hips, and shoulders. However, it’s always important to consider your body weight and preferred sleeping position when looking for a mattress to alleviate pain.
Back Pain
People with back pain need more support to keep their spine well-aligned. It’s less likely you’d wake up in pain if you sleep with your spine in neutral. With the Crystal Cove, we found that it sports good support and pressure relief, combining materials and varying firmness levels in a way that could help eliminate back pain, especially for back sleepers.
Hip Pain
Hip pain is another common issue many sleepers struggle with. Those who like sleeping on their side should try the softer side of the Crystal Cove mattress, as it has softer memory foam closer to the surface. The Flow Foam in the comfort foam is plush and comfortable, conforming the hips and other pressure points to relieve pain and tension. If you’re a back sleeper with hip pain, we suggest you try the firmer side as well.
Shoulder Pain
An uncomfortable mattress can make your shoulder pain worse, so it’s important to have a bed that contours this area to relieve pain and pressure. The Crystal Cove combines different firmnesses and materials to allow just enough sinkage and support. The firmer side should keep your shoulders from sinking too deeply, regardless of whether you sleep on the side or back. However, significantly lighter people should try the softer side for pain relief.
Support
5/5
Support is another critical factor in a bed’s design because it helps keep the spine in good alignment. When the spine becomes maligned, it can lead to long-term pain and bad posture.
A bed with robust support can help ensure that the heavier parts of the body don’t sink too deeply, which can throw off alignment.
The central support feature of this bed is the precision-crafted innerspring unit. These 975 pocketed coils have zoned support for two major areas, the hips and shoulders.
Motion Transfer
3/5
If your sleeping partner has ever jumped onto their side of the bed and you feel like you might just spring off and onto the floor, you likely know a thing or two about motion transfer because you are a light sleeper. In the case of Crystal Cove, the coils have been individually pocketed to protect restful sleepers from motion transfer.
The memory foam side of the bed should prevent motion transfer slightly better than the latex side, though, because memory foam is a top option for motion isolation.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
4/5
Memory foam has a tendency to get hot, so to prevent this, Brentwood Home applied the use of charcoal as a natural coolant for the memory layer. Additionally, the coils in the innerspring should further help keep you cool by creating airflow throughout the mattress. The firmer side has latex that’s naturally breathable and cooling, so you’re unlikely to feel any heat buildup.
Bounce
3/5
This hybrid mattress has average bounce, depending on the side you choose to sleep on. As mentioned, the softer side has memory foam at the top, and this material is better at isolating motion. With this said, don’t expect as much bounce from this side since memory foam has a slow response and will absorb most of the movement. However, we still felt the bouncy coils underneath.
The latex side is more responsive because latex is more buoyant than memory foam. Plus, the coils are closer to the top of the mattress when you flip it, so you can also feel more of their bounciness.
Edge Support
4/5
Mattresses built to order online often lack in this category because they were designed to compress and fit in a box — the Crystal Cove scores above this standard, allowing customers to rest comfortably situated on the edge.
This design uses reinforced coils along the perimeter, so users should not feel like they will topple onto the floor. We felt a bit of compression when sitting on the softer side, but the firmer side kept the perimeter with minimal compression. Either way, we think sleepers should feel comfortable using the entire surface thanks to its edge support.
Performance for Couples
3/5
While different firmness choices are beneficial, couples also need to consider other important factors such as motion isolation and edge support. Motion isolation helps prevent your movements from waking your partner during the night, while edge support allows for the use of the bed’s entire surface space. Although the softer side of Crystal Cove will have slightly better motion isolation with the memory foam, the firmer side is going to have stronger edge support.
Preference-based Features
Multiple Firmness Options
This dual-sided mattress gives you two firmness options in one convenient product. For those who need a softer feel, you can access the Medium-Soft side of the bed, while those who enjoy something more firm can simply flip the mattress over and use the Medium-Firm side.
Optional White Glove Delivery
For an additional fee, you can have a team of professionals deliver and set up your new Crystal Cove mattress. The team can also remove your old mattress, but depending on where you live, this may be impacted by the pandemic.
Eco-Conscious Materials
For those who value an environmentally conscious bed, this brand outshines the competition. Crystal Cove has multiple safety and eco-friendly certifications, including CertiPUR-US®, Greenguard Gold, eco-INSTITUT, and GOLS. Additionally, this mattress has been certified 100 percent vegan by Vegan Action.
Adjustable Base Compatible
This mattress works well with most types of frames, including adjustable bases.
Handcrafted in the USA
Construction: What’s Inside the Brentwood Home Crystal Cove?
Brentwood Home’s Crystal Cove Mattress compresses into a box and is shipped to the customer’s home. The bed is easily installed on a box spring, a slatted platform foundation, or an adjustable base.
The top of this mattress features a stitched gray cover made with a polyester blend and is designed in the style of the company’s yoga collection. The Crystal Cove has a 13-inch profile in total.
For this construction breakdown, we’ll cover the layers of the Restorative Plush (softer) side, which will reverse if you flip the bed over.
- The top layer of the softer side is 1 inch of Flow Foam. This plush layer is designed to conform to your body to relieve achy muscles and joints.
- The comfort layer is 2 inches of Charcoal-Infused Memory Foam. The charcoal provides a natural cooling method to prevent the memory foam from becoming too hot.
- The innerspring unit contains 975 pocketed coils. The term “pocketed” just means that they are individually wrapped in fabric, which is great for curbing motion transfer and providing enhanced support. Additionally, these coils are made from upcycled steel and have a reinforced perimeter for edge support.
- The final layer is made from two inches of GOLS-certified Dunlop latex. If you flip the bed over, this becomes the top of the firmer side of the mattress.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
This hybrid is a bed-in-a-box model that arrives at your doorstep wrapped in plastic and rolled into a box. Unpacking is easy and shouldn’t take too long.
However, the mattress is heavy, especially if you go for some of the larger sizes, so we recommend enlisting the help of a friend or relative to help you out. If not, you can choose the optional white glove delivery, which means a professional team will set up your new mattress for a fee.
If you notice some off-gassing, this is normal for bed-in-a-box mattresses. This odor should dissipate within a day or two.
Certifications
- It has a GREENGUARD Gold certification that reflects the product’s ability to meet some of the world’s most rigorous emissions standards, and its eco-INSTITUT® certification, completed by a lab in Germany with 30 years of experience in the mattress industry, signifies that the company has gone above and beyond to ensure levels of hazardous chemicals are well-below safety regulation requirements.
- The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. The latex is certified by GOLS.

Our Verdict
The Crystal Cove mattress is a unique option that allows you to have two mattresses in one. This isn’t anything new, as we’ve seen it with other models. However, the combination of materials and firmness results in a versatile mattress that fits a range of weight groups and sleep styles.
Brentwood Home went above and beyond, delivering a vegan mattress with certified materials. Although it may not fit extremely light sleepers since its motion isolation isn’t as strong as all-foam memory beds, we think it should still work well for most partners with similar sleeping habits. Plus, it’s handcrafted in the USA. Overall, it earned a 3.8 out of 5.
