Choosing a new bed can be a confusing time, especially when two products appear to offer incredibly similar benefits. Luckily, our comparison of the Nectar and Lull will help you decide which is best suited to your individual needs. 

While both beds offer memory foam with cooling properties, medium firmness, and a 365-night trial period, it may be their slight intricacies that sway you. Are you looking for a mattress that can be used more swiftly once unboxed, a slightly firmer bed, or one that’s lighter on the bank balance?

Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel

Firmness

Both beds are categorized as medium-firm, with the Nectar coming in at 6.5 out of 10 on our mattress firmness scale, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. The Lull is slightly softer, at 6 out of 10. Your body weight and sleeping position will affect the required firmness. As both beds are in the mid-range, they should suit a wide range of sleepers. However, exceptionally heavier sleepers will likely not be a fit for either mattress option.

Support

The Nectar and Lull both offer superior support thanks to their multiple layrs of denser poly foams that sit below the top memory foam layer. While we recommend both beds for side and back sleepers, stomach sleepers may find a firmer bed more accommodating to prevent their lower back from curving too much.

Additionally, these beds might not be suitable for heavyweight sleepers, who may prefer a firmer mattress that provides better support for their spine to remain neutral.

Feel

The Nectar arrives compressed in a box, requiring 24-72 hours to expand to full size. You may also experience an unpleasant off-gassing smell for the first 24 hours. It may feel slightly firmer for the first couple of nights, before the foam begins to respond to your body.

The Lull is also delivered boxed, taking 24-48 hours to reach true size. While the top layer feels soft when pressed, its smaller size means there’ll be less sinkage when you actually lie on it.

Comparing Sinkage and Bounce

Neither the Nectar or Lull offer much bounce, which is typical of memory foam mattresses. Those who have trouble getting out of bed or prefer extra buoyancy while having sex may prefer an innerspring mattress. 

Lull’s smaller memory foam top layer (1.5 inches compared to Nectar’s 3 inches) should cause less sinkage, so it may suit slightly heavier sleepers.

Both beds feature superior levels of edge support compared to many of their memory foam competitors. While you may still feel some sinkage along the perimeter when sleeping near the edge or getting out of bed, it should be minimal and is unlikely to be a deal breaker.

Comparing Motion Transfer

Memory foam mattresses cause less motion transfer when a partner, pet or child moves in the night, as they’re less bouncy than innerspring mattresses. This makes them ideal for those who share their beds with restless sleepers.

The foam layers and mid-range firmness of the Nectar are excellent at absorbing movement, so you’re less likely to be disturbed by your partner tossing and turning. 

The Lull’s foam transition layer is specifically designed to isolate movement. In our review, we found minimal motion transfer when jumping onto the bed or dropping weighted objects beside another object.

Comparing Cooling

Memory foam is traditionally hotter than springs, as it has less airflow, thus absorbing the body’s heat and reflecting it back to you. Thankfully, both beds combat this by adding cooling gel to the top memory foam layers, which is designed to better regulate your body temperature.

The Nectar also features a poly-blend heat-wicking cover, to further dissipate heat. You’ll find a breathable polyester and rayon cover on the Lull that’s cool to the touch.

While both these mattresses are cooler than many other memory foam options, they still may not be suitable for hot sleepers or those in warmer climates.

Comparing Construction (Materials & Quality)

Nectar Construction

The Nectar is a 12-inch mattress, with a poly-blend top cover designed to wick away heat, keeping you cool all night. Memory foam infused with cooling gel is quilted to the cover, offering further temperature regulation, as well as comfortable pressure relief for your joints. A shift-resistant polyester bottom cover keeps things in place, ensuring your mattress doesn’t move when you do.

This bed comes delivered compressed in a box, with White Glove Delivery available at an additional cost of $199. The Nectar is suitable for adjustable bases.

• The top unit features 2 inches of gel-infused memory foam quilted to the breathable cover. This is designed to offer pressure relief, while keeping your body temperature regulated throughout the night.
• The Dynamic Response layer has 3 inches of soft, premium foam, offering comfortable support and responsiveness for the body. 
• The Stability Base Layer is a 7 inch standard conventional foam layer, providing a solid, durable base.

Lull Construction

The Lull is a 10-inch bed, made from three layers of foam. This bed is protected by a breathable and durable, hand-crafted top cover, made from polyester and rayon, which should be cool to the touch. Beneath this lies a layer of memory foam to gently cradle your body, as well as an infusion of cooling gel to help regulate your body temperature. The middle foam layer offers support and motion distribution, while the bottom layer provides additional support.

This mattress will be delivered compressed in a box.

• The first layer features 1.5 inches of gel-infused memory foam, absorbing and dissipating body heat, while offering pressure relief.
• The second layer is 1.5 inches tall and made from a blend of foam that correctly aligns your spine, prevents sinkage, and distributes motion.
• The bottom layer has 7 inches of polyurethane foam, providing further sinkage prevention, as well as support for the rest of the mattress.

• Shipping – You can have the Nectar shipped free to the contiguous United States or to Alaska and Hawaii for an additional 150-dollar fee per bed. The Lull is shipped free to the United States, with additional, subsidized shipping fees for addresses in Alaska and Hawaii.
• Trial Period – Both mattresses offer a 365-night trial period, however if you purchase the Lull via Amazon, you’ll have a reduced 100-night trial period.
• Returns – If you need to return the Nectar or Lull, this will be free of charge. Please note, Amazon purchases of the Lull do not qualify for free returns, and you can only receive a refund if the mattress is still in the box.
• Price – Between the two, the Lull is going to be the more expensive option.
