Although Saatva is best known for its innerspring beds, it’s also a formidable player in the foam arena. Its Loom & Leaf mattress is a memory foam bed with some surprises up its sleeve, including oodles of edge support and lift for your lumbar spine.
While our testers very much appreciated the features above, they wouldn’t suggest the Loom & Leaf for everyone (especially if you want a bouncy bed). Take a deeper look at their findings below.
Note: While you can order the bed in Relaxed Firm and Firm models, this review will focus on the Relaxed Firm option.

Who We Recommend the Loom & Leaf For:
- Memory foam lovers – This bed has high-quality memory foam that contours your shape and should give you a gently cradled feeling without letting you sink too deep to where you feel stuck.
- Hot sleepers – The company has included several features that help reduce heat retention associated with foam beds, including a breathable cotton cover and gel added into the 3-inch memory foam layer.
- Deal seekers – Using an online sales model, Saatva can eliminate the middleman and pass savings directly to the consumer. The company also believes they can offer more luxury by never compressing the mattress into a box.
Who We Don’t Recommend the Loom & Leaf For:
- People who like the feel of an innerspring bed – For an all-foam bed, it should feel substantial, and the smart design should help you stay cool and comfortable. However, it offers minimal bounce, and its core has a different feel from the coil system you will find on a Saatva innerspring bed.
- Shoppers who want their beds shipped in a box – While this online brand doesn’t deliver their beds in a box, they do offer a very appealing free white glove delivery service with your purchase. This way, the professionals come right to your door and set everything up for you. No heavy lifting is required!

Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 6/10 (Relaxed Firm) 7.5/10 (Firm)
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
The firmness of a mattress is indicative of how soft or firm a bed feels when you are lying on it. Firmness differs from support in that the supportiveness of a mattress deals specifically with how well a given mattress is able to keep your spine neutral.
The relaxed firmness coupled with the cozy comfort of the memory foam makes this mattress a great choice for various sizes and sleep positions.
How Does It Feel?
With the Loom & Leaf, you’ll first notice the soft organic cotton cover. Though you would expect to sink a lot into memory materials, the quilted cover should help prevent you from sinking too far in. It should contour around your body, as memory materials do, and provide a soft yet supportive feel.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
Saatva states that the Loom & Leaf is best suited for people who are 300 pounds or under.
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lighter people may not get to enjoy all of the attributes of this bed because they are not heavy enough to come into contact with all the layers. This may make the mattress seem too firm for them.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – If you’re in the middle of the weight spectrum and gravitate toward your side when sleeping, the Loom & Leaf should cradle you in comfort while providing pressure relief on your shoulders and hips.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Although some heavyweight side sleepers may feel that they are sinking too far down in the bed to get comfortable, for most, this shouldn’t be an issue. Most heavyweight sleepers should enjoy a great combination of softness and support.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – If you tend to sleep on your back and are on the lighter side, there is a good chance that you will find this bed too firm. Smaller sleepers won’t be able to feel all the luxurious layers because they don’t weigh enough to activate them.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – The Loom & Leaf is an excellent choice for average-weight sleepers. They should experience excellent spinal support, and some may even find that it helps with their snoring.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – This mattress is durable and provides a lot of support from the base to the top. This is a great combination for heavier people who snooze on their backs.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers -Lightweight stomach sleepers, especially those who prefer a firmer feel, should like the Loom & Leaf as they won’t have to worry about their hips sagging. Mattresses that can’t support the weight around your hips can leave stomach sleepers with aches and pains.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – The Loom & Leaf should excel for average-weight stomach sleepers. Those who are in between light and heavy will enjoy being wrapped in a memory foam hug and shouldn’t have to worry about their hips getting too much pressure from sinking in the bed.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Most heavyweight stomach sleepers should find that the Loom & Leaf is sturdy enough to not let them sink too far into the layers. This will help them enjoy their favorite sleeping position without worry that the areas of the body carrying the most weight will ache from not being supported.
Pressure Relief
4/5
If you find yourself constantly waking up with aches and pains, your mattress probably isn’t doing a good job of relieving pressure. The trick is to find a bed with the right amount of cushion and support.
The Loom & Leaf mattress is an all-foam construction that should help you achieve a gently cradled sleep with great pressure relief on both the Relaxed Firm and Firm models. This bed provides minimal bounce, but the base, responsive top layer, and cover should help.
Is The Saatva Loom & Leaf Good for Pain Relief?
The Loom & Leaf mattress has excellent lumbar support and mid-range firmness that should appeal to most people. Although it might be too firm for some, most people should like how it helps keep the spine aligned. As such, the Loom & Leaf should be good for pain relief as long you’re aware of how firm it is. For some people, especially lightweight side sleepers, the mattress can make the pain worse.
Back Pain
The softness of the memory foam combined with excellent lumbar support of the Loom & Leaf should make this mattress an excellent partner for fighting off back aches.
Explore the best beds for back pain here.
Hip Pain
Side and stomach sleepers can experience pain in their hips when a bed isn’t designed to support those areas. Fortunately, this mattress should provide ample support in these areas so that you won’t wake up with cranky hips. Find our picks for the best mattresses for hip pain here.
Shoulder Pain
Average-weight and heavyweight sleepers should find that this mattress provides great pressure relief on their shoulders. Some lightweight sleepers may find that the firmness of this bed puts too much stress on their shoulders, leading to pain. They may want to consider looking at the best mattress for shoulder pain.
Support
5/5
A well-supported mattress can help foster good spine alignment, preventing long-term pain in areas such as the neck and back. The Loom & Leaf has a hefty foam base plus an additional poly foam transitional layer that not only helps the bed remain durable but also distributes your weight evenly and maintains spine alignment. Although there is not a ton of sinkage on the surface, the memory foam contours to your body, so the spaces between your curves and the bed should be filled.
The density and firmness should work well for heavier folks as well, especially on the Firm model.
Motion Isolation
4/5
The Loom & Leaf does a great job of keeping the disturbances caused by any of your co-sleeping partners to a minimum. If you have a spouse who tosses and turns or a dog that takes forever to find the right spot, the Loom & Leaf may be what you need.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
4/5
Foam beds can certainly run hot. Thankfully, Loom & Leaf addressed the need for cooling elements head-on.
The cover is made from breathable organic cotton. This allows air to move freely and not be trapped under your body. Additionally, they use a cooling gel-infused memory foam that targets areas of the body that tend to heat up easily.
Bounce
3/5
This bed is packed with dense memory foam, so don’t expect too much bounce from it. However, there’s enough responsiveness to make it easier for you to switch positions. Although you’re unlikely to feel stuck, there’s not a lot of bounce that sexually active couples might appreciate.
Edge Support
5/5
Upon testing the Loom & Leaf mattress, we saw it has excellent edge support considering it doesn’t have any coils. Hybrid mattresses usually have better edge support than all-foam models, but this Saatva bed was a nice surprise. Lying and sitting at the edge of the bed felt secure enough, so you should be able to use the entire surface of the Loom & Leaf mattress.
Performance for Couples
4/5
Couples often desire beds that allow one partner to go undisturbed from any movements that the other makes. The memory foam materials used in the Loom & Leaf keep the disturbances of any twists, turns, and flops to a minimum.
The Loom & Leaf also has a versatile feel to better accommodate both partners, and it excels at edge support, which means more useable surface space to spread out on.
