It’s time for a match-up of two great foam mattresses: the Loom & Leaf vs. the Leesa Original. Leesa offers customers a competitively-priced memory foam bed while Loom & Leaf is a more eco-friendly brainchild of mattress empire Saatva.
Both high-end, all-foam mattresses are rather affordable considering the quality they offer; a typical bed of the same quality could cost you a small fortune in a retail store. This is due to the fact that both companies cut out the middleman and sell directly to the consumer online.
The Loom & Leaf is available as Relaxed Firm and Firm, but we’ll be reviewing the Relaxed Firm for this comparison.

100 nightsWho I’d Recommend the Loom & Leaf For
- Shoppers who like firmness options – This bed comes with the option of a Relaxed Firm or Firm feel, so you can enjoy Saatva’s premium quality with your desired comfort level. You can even order a Split-King or Cali-King with a different firmness on either side.
- Eco-conscious shoppers – The Loom & Leaf has some eco-friendly features, starting with its botanical antimicrobial treatment and natural thistle pulp-derived flame retardant. Saatva also substitutes 30 percent of the polyurethane in this bed’s foams with renewable, naturally-derived soybean and corn oils.
- Average to heavyweight sleepers – Our team recommends the Relaxed Firm model of this bed for average to heavyweight sleepers, as it’s slightly firmer than the Leesa, and this should offer a little more support.
Who I’d Recommend the Leesa For
- Light to average-weight sleepers – Lighter-weight sleepers may find the Loom & Leaf too firm, but we think they’ll enjoy the slightly softer feel of the Leesa, sinking into the comfort layers to receive optimal pressure relief and support.
- Budget shoppers – No matter the size that you choose, a Leesa Original mattress is cheaper than its Loom & Leaf counterpart, which we think could appeal to shoppers on a smaller budget.
- Community-conscious shoppers – Leesa also gives back to the community; for every 10 beds sold, the company donates one to a child or family in need.
Comparing Loom & Leaf vs. Leesa: Top Similarities
- Firmness – The Loom & Leaf and Leesa each have a medium firmness. While the Loom & Leaf Relaxed Firm model received a 6 out of 10 firmness rating from us, the Leesa was rated just slightly softer at a 5.5. A medium firmness is a popular choice among shoppers due to its versatility.
- All-foam construction – Both the Loom & Leaf and Leesa are all-foam beds, which means you won’t find an innerspring unit in either one. Additionally, these beds contain a layer of memory foam, one of the most popular materials for pressure relief and comfort.
- Suitable for couples – The Leesa has a universal feel that can make it ideal for couples sharing a bed. The Loom & Leaf offers Split King and Split Cali-King options that can also provide versatility for couples, and both beds also offer great motion isolation to help prevent unwanted disturbances when one partner moves around.
Comparing Loom & Leaf vs. Leesa: Key Differences
- Sinkage – The Loom & Leaf offers a gentle cradle, while the Leesa has a slightly deeper cradle. So, if you’re looking to sleep more on top of the bed, we’d recommend the Loom & Leaf. However, if you’re seeking a compromise between a deep hug and a gentle cradle, we’d steer you toward the Leesa.
- Edge support – All-foam beds tend to lack good edge support, but the Loom & Leaf has a sturdy perimeter. We found that the Leesa didn’t provide as much edge support, which may be an issue for couples who like to spread out or people who deal with mobility issues.
- Shipping – The Loom & Leaf arrives full-size and will be set up with free white-glove delivery across the contiguous U.S.. They’ll even remove your old mattress if needed. The Leesa comes with free bed-in-a-box shipping across the entire U.S, with white-glove delivery available in select locations for an additional fee.
Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel
Firmness
Our firmness scale ranges from 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest. We placed the Loom & Leaf Relaxed Firm at 6, which is medium firmness. The Leesa comes in at 5.5, making it slightly softer. The Loom & Leaf is a bed that will accommodate a tremendous range of sleepers, regardless of their weight. We found Leesa’s flagship model to likely be a better match for lighter sleepers, though some heavier folks may do okay on this bed depending on their sleep position.
Support
Our team found that the Loom & Leaf’s thick foam base and transitional loft pad offered great support that distributed body weight and maintained spine alignment. We think this support level works best for average to heavyweight sleepers.
The middle memory layer and dense foam base on the Leesa also provide great support, especially for heavier areas like the hips. Light to average-weight sleepers should enjoy the support on this bed as well as some heavyweight sleepers. Heavier stomach sleepers, however, may prefer a firmer bed.
Feel
The quilted organic cotton cover on the Loom & Leaf feels super soft. We found that although the mattress offers enough support for heavier sleepers, it still provides a plush feel, thanks to its contouring memory materials.
The Leesa Original also feels soft, but this one feels springy to the touch, unlike the less responsive Loom & Leaf. However, pushing deeper, the memory layer offers a slower response time. “Its foams are incredibly contouring and should provide excellent pressure relief,” reported Emma, a Sleep Advisor mattress tester.
Comparing Sinkage and Bounce
The Loom & Leaf’s cover prevents you from sinking too far into the comfort layer by offering gentle contouring. The Leesa offers slightly deeper sinkage, with a medium cradle. However, this deeper cradle shouldn’t affect your ability to move around on the surface, according to our reviewer, Emma. “One of the things that really surprised me was how responsive this was for an all-foam bed. It makes it easier to move around on, while still accepting my body’s weight as I lay down.”
While the Loom & Leaf offers very little by way of bounce, its gentler cradle keeps you more on top of the bed, so repositioning should be a cinch.
Comparing Motion Transfer
Our team found that both mattresses did a great job of isolating motion, which is to be expected of all-foam models. A mattress with good motion isolation helps prevent movement from traveling across the bed when a co-sleeper moves around or gets in and out of bed.
The Loom & Leaf’s slower responding comfort layer helps it excel at motion isolation. Despite it having some bounce, Emma noted that the Leesa also did a fantastic job. “One of the things I noticed was that the Leesa mattress has really good motion isolation; you should find it easy to move around and reposition yourself without disturbing your partner.”
Comparing Cooling
While neither of these beds are marketed as cooling beds, they both have temperature-regulating features. The Loom & Leaf’s breathable organic cotton cover helps keep the surface cool while its gel-infused memory foam and breathable memory foams prevent heat from being trapped in the mattress.
The Leesa also has a breathable cover. It also features aerated poly foam, which should cool the comfort layer down. However, as this mattress has a little more sinkage than the Loom & Leaf, your body is less exposed to air, which may cause it to sleep slightly hotter. Having said this, we think many people will sleep temperature-neutral on either mattress.

Loom & Leaf Construction
The Loom & Leaf offers a fairly substantial 12-inch profile. Eco-conscious consumers are likely to appreciate that the cover is made with organic cotton. It has also been constructed with the brand’s Guardin™ antimicrobial treatment, as well as a natural flame retardant derived from thistle pulp.
This construction breakdown focuses on the Relaxed Firm option.
- The top layer’s 2-inch gel-infused memory foam is designed to provide comfort and cooling. The lumbar-zoned gel memory foam panel provides additional support and pressure relief.
- The second layer features 2.5 inches of high-density memory foam, offering comfort, support, and a gentle cradle.
- The third layer’s 2-inch loft pad should provide an easy transition from the comfort layer to the base. The firmness of this layer differs in the Relaxed Firm and Firm options.
- The bottom layer has 5.5 inches of dense poly foam that should retain the overall shape of the bed.

Leesa Construction
Unlike its counterpart, the Leesa uses a slightly thinner construction, coming in at 10 inches tall. The mattress starts with a breathable cool-knit cover made from polyester and viscose. The cover zips off, but the brand doesn’t recommend removing it for cleaning; they advise using a mattress protector instead.
- The first layer features 2 inches of Leesa’s exclusive breathable poly foam that’s designed to sleep cool with its aerated construction. This layer acts as the comfort layer, providing a medium level of sinkage for pressure relief and responsiveness for bounce.
- The middle layer is a 2-inch memory foam recovery layer that should provide support, as well as additional body contouring for added pressure relief.
- The base layer is made up of a 6-inch tall unit of high-density poly foam, which offers support for the sleeper and durability for the rest of the bed.

Final Thoughts
The Leesa and the Loom & Leaf both offer good quality at a fraction of its cost. Saatva has incorporated eco-friendly materials in the Loom & Leaf while Leesa is dedicated to giving back to the community through donations.
We think fans of all-foam beds who value edge support, a gentle cradle, and exceptional support may love the Loom & Leaf, while those who prefer a medium cradle, an element of bounce, and a slightly softer overall feel could dig the Leesa.
