Here we are again—two killer mattress brands going head to head. One brand is an industry superstar with years of experience; most everyone has heard of Tempur-Pedic. The other, Amerisleep, is newer to the game, so will it be able to hold its own?
Both brands offer multiple options to meet your sleep needs. Amerisleep has five beds, all with different firmness levels (firm to soft) from AS1 through AS5. Tempur-Pedic currently sells five models, each with different firmness and/or construction choices.
This Amerisleep vs Tempur-Pedic comparison is going to take a look at the Amerisleep AS3 and TEMPUR-Adapt, arguably the most versatile models of both brands. If you want to take a glance over our individual reviews, click below.

Amerisleep Construction
AS3 is an all-foam mattress that comes in a box. The AS3 is also available as a hybrid, but we will focus on the AS3 all-foam construction for this comparison. Three layers make up this 12-inch bed. The bed’s Refresh Cooling Cover is designed to keep the sleeper cool, preventing overheating during the night.
- The top layer holds the responsibility of comfort with some added cooling features. The 3-inch proprietary Bio-Pur® foam is an eco-friendly alternative to memory foam and has an open-cell structure meant to keep things breathable.
- The second layer is made up of Affinity foam with HIVE® technology. This layer is 2 inches tall. The HIVE® technology adds a 5-zone comfort system to provide extra plushness and support where they’re needed most.
- The base layer is a thick, 7-inch dense proprietary foam called BioCore®. It is the firmest layer for deep support, and it helps give the bed its shape.
The other models that this company has to offer will vary slightly in construction and height but overall have similar makeups.

Tempur-Pedic Construction
The TEMPUR-Adapt® line gives you the option of an all-foam or hybrid construction shipped with free White Glove Delivery anywhere in the continental United States. Standing at 11 inches tall, Adapt is covered in their SmartClimate cover made with high-weight yarn that regulates temperature.
- The top layer is TEMPUR-ES® comfort foam that gives you the classic memory contouring. It is softer and lets you sink in a bit.
- The second layer takes the original TEMPUR support foam that made the company famous for its adaptability.
- The base layer can be either foam or pocketed coils depending on your preference. Coils will add a little extra bounce and responsiveness, while foam gives extra contouring and support.
Note: The brand does not publish full specs online. They also offer additional models that will vary slightly in construction and feel.
Comparing Firmness (Support & Feel)
Not all foam is created equally; despite both being made of mostly foam, these beds have different feels. One is more like a classic memory, and the other is a bit quicker in response with some slight contouring.
AS3 is rated at a medium feel on our firmness scale of 1 to 10, landing at a 5.5. Still in that versatile medium range, the largest group of sleepers should find this bed comfortable. You should feel a good amount of contouring from the top memory layer, but after releasing pressure on the foams, they will snap back into place quickly.
On the other hand, Adapt, scores a little softer at a 5 (the hybrid at a 6) and should feel exactly as you would expect a Tempur-Pedic bed to feel. The memory materials are extra contouring and slow in response, filling in any gaps around the curves of your body quite nicely.
Due to the comfort of memory foam, should relieve pressure well. Side sleepers should love the extra love around the hips and shoulders, and back sleepers should appreciate the support in the lumbar area. Exclusive stomach or heavy sleepers might find a firmer surface (like the AS2 or Adapt hybrid) more comfortable and supportive for proper spine alignment.
Comparing Sinkage and Bounce
You might feel some differences in this category as well. Lying on the AS3, you should feel more on top of the bed, and on the Adapt, you should feel more in it.
AS3 should provide a gentle cradle; while lying on it, the contouring top layer should conform to your body, but the dense base and quicker responding transition layer should keep you from sinking too deep. Repositioning should come easily, and you should not feel stuck because it has a little bit more bounce compared to most all-foam beds.
Adapt is designed to feel ultra-tight and allow you to feel the deep hugging of memory materials around you. This is exactly what the brand is known for, and while this is stellar at relieving pressure, it will make repositioning a bit more difficult than on its competitor. If this is a concern for you, the hybrid alternatively has a coil system that will add bounce and should make changing positions a piece of cake.
Comparing Motion Transfer
You might remember Tempur-Pedic’s famous old commercial where a woman is jumping on the mattress next to a glass full of wine. This is what memory foam is famous for: its incredible motion absorbing capabilities, and Amerisleep shares that feature with Tempur-Pedic. Although this might not be the deciding factor for some, those that share their bed understand what a pain it is to be woken up due to a partner’s movements, kids climbing into bed, or restless pets.
Both brands excel in this category, so no worries here.
Comparing Edge Support
Ever put your shoes on while sitting on the bed? Perhaps you like to sleep close to the edge, or maybe you want to maximize the space you have to stretch out. If you can relate to any of these, edge support will matter to you.
Foam beds are known for their compression under pressure, so other models may perform poorly and sag around the edges. Luckily, both of these brands score fairly well here compared to all-foam competitors with Tempur-Pedic possibly scoring slightly better because it is not compressed into a box during shipping.

Should I Buy Amerisleep or Tempur-Pedic?
The decision is not as easy as it seems, is it? Although they are both constructed with foam materials, they have different feels, firmnesses, and levels of sinkage, among other small differences.
We Would Recommend Buying Amerisleep if You are Looking for:
- A more affordable alternative. This brand is going to be quite a bit cheaper all around while still offering a high-quality experience. If you’re looking to save a few bucks, this is your best bet.
- Straight forward firmness options. Amerisleep has made it easy to make your decision by streamlining their products. Five beds, the AS1 through AS5, make up their mattress arsenal: AS1 will be your firmest bed, and the AS5 is the softest.
- Quick response with memory support. The top layer provides the contouring of memory foam, while the lower layers keep you from sinking too deeply.
We Would Recommend Buying Tempur-Pedic if You are Looking for:
- A choice in construction. This brand gives you the option of an all-foam or hybrid construction, great for those who want foam with a little bounce.
- A more classic memory foam feel. Tempur-Pedic made a name for itself with its deep, slow responding foam that hugs you as you sleep, and Adapt is no different.
- A better experience for heavier sleepers. A hybrid option gives heavier sleepers the comfort of memory foam with the durability of a spring bed.
Final Thoughts
Looking for that classic memory feel? Adapt will probably be your guy. Offering a choice between hybrid and foam, Tempur-Pedic has tried to make a bed for everyone’s preferences while still paying homage to their original design.
Wanting something with the benefits of memory without that full-on sinking feeling? Amerisleep has mastered that in-between sensation of just enough contouring while holding you in a gentle cradle, making repositioning easy-peasy.
