Who I’d Recommend the GhostBed For

Heavyweight sleepers – We think the Casper won’t offer enough support for heavier sleepers so the slightly firmer GhostBed may be a better choice for people in this weight category. Side and back sleepers should find the Ghostbed offers a good balance of pressure relief and support, though stomach sleepers may find it too soft to keep their hips raised.
Combination sleepers – With its medium level of bounce to aid repositioning and its suitability for the majority of body weights and sleeping positions, we think many combination sleepers will find this bed an absolute treat.
Hot sleepers – A breathable cover, aerated latex, and gel-infused memory foam puts the GhostBed ahead of the Casper when it comes to cooling technology. We’d recommend the GhostBed for those who tend to sleep hot.

Who I’d Recommend the Casper For

Lightweight sleepers – While some lightweight sleepers may also feel comfortable on the GhostBed, we think the Casper is more suited for this weight category with its slightly softer feel, which should allow lighter sleepers to sink in and activate the layers.
Shoppers who prefer well-established brands – Casper has built a solid reputation in the bed-in-a-box industry and has established itself as one of the veterans. If you’re looking for a more well-known brand, there are few as regularly recognized as Casper.
Memory foam fans – Casper’s memory foam layer lies underneath its top layer of aerated foam, so it doesn’t offer a classic deep sinkage. However, it has more of a memory foam feel than the top springy latex layer of the GhostBed.

Comparing GhostBed vs. Casper: Top Similarities

Off-gassing – Both beds arrived compressed in a box, which means there’ll likely be some off-gassing once unpacked. This harmless but slightly unpleasant smell is the result of chemical byproducts escaping and should dissipate within a couple of days if left in a ventilated room.
Trial – Both beds come with similar industry-standard length trials. The Casper has a 100-night trial, while the GhostBed has 101 nights, so you’ve got around three months to sleep on your decision.
Motion isolation – Despite their slight bounce, we found that both beds do a great job of preventing movement from traveling across the bed, which should leave you sleeping soundly when your partner is moving around.

Comparing GhostBed vs. Casper: Key Differences

Support – The GhostBed is slightly firmer than the Casper, which means it could accommodate heavier sleepers a bit better. On the other hand, average-weight sleepers may prefer the zoned support in Casper’s transition layer, which offers extra support at the hips and enhanced pressure relief at the shoulders and knees.
Warranty period – The Casper comes with a 10-year warranty while the GhostBed warranty is twice as long; the GhostBed’s 20-year warranty may offer some extra peace of mind.

Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel

Firmness

We rate mattress firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being soft as a cloud. We placed the GhostBed at 6.5, which is medium-firm, while the Casper was slightly softer at a 6. Their medium-firmness makes these two mattresses highly versatile and suitable for many different body shapes and sleep preferences.

We’d recommend the Casper more for light to average-weight sleepers, while average to heavyweight sleepers should fare better on the GhostBed.

Support

With its slightly firmer feel, we found the GhostBed offered much better support for heavier sleepers over 230 pounds, although some stomach sleepers in this weight category may still need a firmer bed.

Light to average-weight stomach sleepers who carry extra weight in the center of their body may prefer Casper’s zoned support system, which should help keep their hips level with the rest of their body for good spine alignment.

Feel

Lying on the GhostBed, we felt the quick response of the latex, which conformed to our shape, settling us into the gel memory foam below for deep pressure relief. We also enjoyed the cooling properties of the aerated latex and gel foam.

The top of the Casper is also quick-responding although the memory materials took a moment to adjust to our shape. Emma, a Sleep Advisor mattress tester, commented on feeling a sense of pressure relief and a gentle memory foam hug from this bed.

Comparing Sinkage and Bounce

We experienced a gentle cradle on both mattresses; there’s just enough sinkage to address pressure relief needs without a ‘stuck’ feeling that can happen in some memory foam beds.

Our testing team reported that the GhostBed’s high-density foam base and top latex layer provide some bounce, though this is slightly absorbed by the memory foam layer in between. We rate the bed as having a medium amount of bounce, which could appeal to combination sleepers, couples looking for a mattress for sex, and those with mobility issues.

While the Casper has slightly less bounce, we found its comfort layer was still quickly responsive, with indentations disappearing immediately after changing position.

Comparing Motion Transfer

If you’re easily awoken by your partner or pet moving around or getting in and out of bed, you ideally need a bed with good motion isolation, which prevents movement from traveling across the bed. All-foam beds tend to do a better job at isolating motion, although if a bed has bounce, as the GhostBed and Casper do, that sometimes means there’s more motion transfer.

Despite the bounce in the top layer of each of these products, we think the memory foam layers placed underneath do a great job at keeping motion transfer at a minimum, so you shouldn’t be woken by a sleepmate moving around at night.

Comparing Cooling

Casper’s proprietary foam has an open structure, which means it’s better able to allow air to flow through than traditional foams might. This can help keep the surface from overheating, while still conforming to your body. We found ourselves sleeping temperature-neutral on the Casper.

Our team reported that the GhostBed does a slightly better job at cooling as there are a few more cooling features than in the Casper. First, there’s the latex top that’s aerated to further enhance cooling beyond the material’s natural temperature-regulating capabilities. Then, there’s the memory foam layer that’s infused with gel to keep heat from building up. Lastly, there’s a breathable cover.
