Who We Recommend The Spindle For:
- Eco-conscious shoppers – This bed is made with organic latex and is cased in eco-wool and cotton. While Spindle does not provide a top-to-bottom organic certification, it does have a few reputable certifications for some of its materials.
- People with pressure buildup – Latex conforms to the body, diminishing pressure points in both your hips and shoulders. Unlike most memory foam, latex responds quickly to pressure. The Medium setting should alleviate pressure points, regardless of how you rest.
- Combination sleepers – This bed has great responsiveness that makes bouncing into a new sleeping position a breeze. Combination sleepers who roll around at night should enjoy the versatility this allows.
Who We Don’t Recommend The Spindle For:
- Heavy people – Spindle does not provide a weight limit, but the company does recommend a thicker product for heavy sleepers with a BMI of 30 or over. Their website offers the Spindle Comfort Calculator, where you can punch in your height, weight, and preferred sleeping position. This can help you determine if this bed is a good fit for you.
- Budget shoppers – This latex mattress isn’t the best budget option for those looking for an affordable mattress. The Queen size comes in at over 2,000 dollars, which is on the pricey side.
First Impressions: Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 6/10
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
We rated this mattress at a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale, with 1 being like a cloud and 10 compared to a rock.
This medium firmness should work well with most body types and sleeping positions. Typically, a medium feel is a good choice for couples as well since its versatility means it stands a better chance of appeasing both partners.
How Does It Feel?
This quick-responding mattress does a lot to conform to your body. The plush cotton and wool quilting serve the latex nicely as these materials work together to support the shoulders, spine, and lumbar areas. This leaves sleepers in a gentle pressure-relieving cradle.
The firm base in this model supports the buoyant top layers making it easy for combination sleepers to adjust. This allows for quick and easy repositioning, keeping you on the surface and not feeling stuck.
What We Like About the Spindle
- Sustainable materials – This bed is made from organic cotton, wool, and latex, so it’s an excellent option for eco-conscious shoppers. Eco-ffiendly materials provide a unique sleeping experience thanks to the responsiveness, breathability, and temperature regulation
- Temperature regulation – Latex in this bed has an open-cell structure that allows plenty of airflow so that the construction doesn’t overheat. This, combined with wool and cotton, provides a fresh and cool surface to sleep on.
- 365-night trial – The Spindle mattress comes with a 365-night trial, giving you enough time to test how the bed fits your needs and preferences.
Our Spindle Complaints
- Not for heavy people – The medium feel this bed provides should work well for most people weighing 130 to 230 pounds. Anyone over 230 pounds may find the bed too soft and not supportive enough to keep the spine aligned in various sleeping positions.
- It’s pricey – Latex mattresses are on the pricey side, and the Spindle mattress is no exception.
Testing the Spindle Mattress: How it Performed
The Spindle mattress is a comfortable and responsive latex bed suitable for a range of sleepers. We tested the Spindle in various sleeping positions to see how it would fit side, back, and stomach sleepers. Additionally, we also tested for preference-based features such as edge support, bounce, motion isolation, and temperature regulation.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
We couldn’t find any official statement regarding the weight limit of the Spindle mattress. However, given that it’s a latex bed standing at 10 inches, we wouldn’t recommend it for people over 230 pounds. The medium firmness it provides is likely to feel too soft for heavy people but should work wonders for average-weight people sleeping on their side and back.
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight side sleepers should find a nice balance of pressure relief and support coming from the highly responsive latex construction. However, some may do better with the softer version of this bed.
- Average-weight Sleepers – Average-weight side sleepers should sink deeper, depending on their exact body weight. However, most should get optimal pressure relief, even weight distribution, and spine alignment.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavy side sleepers should try a firmer model because it’s likely to provide more support than the Spindle.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight back sleepers should experience just enough sinkage in the lower back area, which should help prevent pressure buildup.
- Average-weight Sleepers – Back sleepers weighing 130 to 230 pounds are likely to enjoy the contour that helps relieve pressure without letting the hips sink too deeply. However, those closer to 230 pounds may want a firmer bed.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavy back sleepers should try a firmer bed because the medium firmness of this one might not be enough to keep the hips aligned in this position
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight stomach sleepers should enjoy the medium firmness as it allows the hips to stay aligned without creating additional pressure points.
- Average-weight Sleepers – Average-weight stomach sleepers may find this bed too soft if they’re closer to 230 pounds. Those closer to 130 pounds should find sufficient support and cushioning for a good night’s sleep.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – The Spindle is likely too soft to keep the hips from sinking too deeply, which is why we think a firmer bed may be a better option.
Pressure Relief & Pain
Latex is an excellent material for pressure relief as it conforms to the body like memory foam. The gentle cradle it provides, especially in the softer models, helps relieve pressure and prevents it from building up again.
The Medium Spindle is good for back sleepers and those who like sleeping on the side, often struggling with pressure buildup in the hips, shoulders, and knees. Sleepers should experience different levels of sinkage and pressure relief depending on their body weight.
Back Pain – The Spindle mattress should be a good option for people with back pain as it has a medium firmness and a responsive feel. The latex in this bed helps contour the pressure points, which in turn, helps relieve pressure and pain in the lower back and shoulders. Heavier people with back pain may want to try the firmer model, while those under 130 pounds might do better with the softer model.
Hip Pain – People with hip pain should try to sleep on their back to take some pressure off the hip area. This latex mattress offers enough sinkage and contouring to relieve pressure in the hip area and prevent it from building up again. The bed should feel equally comfortable for side and back sleeping but do keep in mind your body weight because heavier people tend to sink deeper into the comfort layers.
Shoulder Pain – Shoulder pain can feel even worse for those sleeping on the side, but Spindle can help by contouring the area to relieve the tension. Latex in this mattress offers a gentle cradle, so the pressure is unlikely to build up even if you sleep on the side. However, people under 130 pounds should try the softer version as it offers more sinkage for side sleeping.
Support
The Spindle has three latex foam layers with different firmness levels to deliver variable levels of pressure relief and support. The most support comes from the base layer, made from firm Dunlop latex foam. This prevents the upper layers from sagging, ensuring your body stays in alignment.
Latex is bouncy and responsive, so it makes it easy to move around the bed. On top of that, it allows plenty of pressure relief, but it also excels in support. The upper latex foam layers have a balance of sinkage and support to keep you in a healthy sleeping posture without creating pressure in sensitive areas.
Motion Transfer
Memory foam is king in this category, but latex performs surprisingly well considering its buoyancy. Being exclusively a latex layered mattress, it naturally contains a fair amount of bounce.
The bounce in this bed should not transfer nearly as much motion as a traditional innerspring mattress. Latex, coupled with the plush wool quilting, absorbs a great deal of impact, providing good motion isolation and allowing you to rest easily. You should not feel your partner’s every move, but you might sense their bigger movements during the night.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
Latex is a good option for people who want that all-foam feel without memory foam. Memory foam tends to overheat, but that’s not the case with latex thanks to its natural breathability and temperature regulation. Latex has an open-cell structure and is combined with wool to create a cool surface that doesn’t trap heat.
Hot sleepers should find this bed comfortable even during the hottest months. Although it’s not necessarily a cooling mattress, the Spindle bed has good temperature-regulating capabilities that make it a good option for those who sleep hot.
Performance for Couples
Spindle should be a good mattress option for couples who want a versatile bed with a balance of bounce and motion isolation. Although it doesn’t isolate motion as well as memory foam, this bed should still be good for most couples, except those with significantly different sleeping habits.
Another thing worth noting is the bounce that can help sexually-active couples. The pushback support is something you may find beneficial for switching positions. In addition, we found the edges of the bed secure enough, giving couples more space to use.

Preference-based Features
Dunlop Latex
The foam is constructed using a “continuous pour” Dunlop process, where the liquid rubber is continuously dispensed over a conveyor belt, creating a balanced and affordable product. According to Spindle, this technique creates a more all-natural bed that reduces the number of synthetic materials or fillers and contains no polyurethane foams.
Exceptional Edge Support
The sides of the mattress cover are made from a cotton canvas. This feature provides a bit more edge support than other bed-in-a-box brands, which typically do not shine in this category. Sleepers should feel secure while lying on the sides of this bed and need not worry about rolling off, though they may notice a slight compression when sitting on the edge of the mattress.
Adjustable Base Compatible
This bed is compatible with different mattress foundations, so you can probably use what you already have. In addition, it’s also compatible with an adjustable base for people who want to customize their sleeping experience.
Made in the USA
Construction: What’s Inside the Spindle?
The zip-off cover is constructed with flexible circular-knit cotton and quilted with a 1-inch coat of eco-wool batting. Wool wicks away moisture, regulating the temperature and allowing you to sleep cooler. If something were to spill onto or stain this plush cover, the manufacturer recommends that you spot-clean the affected area with a damp cloth. The cover improves mattress durability and flexibility, while the wool is a natural flame retardant.
Including the cover, this three-layer mattress stands 10 inches tall. Each layer is made with a 3-inch organic latex foam with different firmness levels to provide a combination of bounce, sinkage, pressure relief, and support.
- The comfort layer is a 3-inch soft organic latex foam. This equips this bed with ample pressure relief, providing a timely bounce for adjusting sleepers. It conforms nicely to your curves, while the pinholes help provide extra airflow to keep you cool.
- The transition layer is an additional 3-inch medium organic latex foam. This provides supplementary support and provides a similar function as the top layer.
- The support layer is a 3-inch firm organic latex foam. This acts as a supportive base, adding necessary backing to keep pressure off your joints.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
The layers of the Spindle arrive in individual boxes, also containing the cotton-knit cover. Instructions are included and walk you through a step-by-step setup.
Latex tends to weigh a lot, for this reason, the company recommends that you use a slatted platform frame, box foundations (different from box springs), or heavy-duty adjustable frames. This also means you should have someone help you move the boxes around.
In most cases, it takes less than ten minutes to unpack the bed and set it up. What’s best is that we didn’t notice any off-gassing odors, probably because the bed is made from natural materials.
Certifications
- Eco-Friendly Certifications – The wool cotton in the cover is GOTS-certified, while the wool is also GOTS-certified and has an OEKO-TEX® certification. The latex used in the Spindle mattress has three certifications: the OEKO-TEX®, GOTS, and GOLS.
Coupons, Trials, Warranties, and Shipping
- Shipping – Shipping is free within the contiguous USA and usually takes seven to ten days.
- Trial – You can keep the Spindle mattress for up to 365 nights, which should be more than enough for most people to decide whether it matches their needs.
- Warranty – The manufacturer maintains a 10-year warranty.
- 25-Year Comfort Life Program – As your firmness preferences change over time, Spindle will provide new layers at a 30% discount from what their pricing is at that time.
- Return Policy – Returns are free within the trial period. However, the company asks you to keep the mattress for at least 60 to 90 days, which is how long it may take to adapt to sleeping on a new bed. If you still don’t like it, they’ll refund your money.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do latex mattresses sag?
Latex mattresses are known to be durable and resilient. However, much like all other mattresses, those made of latex will sag after a while. They should last a few years, but their lifespan depends on many factors, like the sleeper’s weight and the overall quality of the bed.
What is the lifespan of a latex mattress?
Latex beds should last 10 to 20 years, which is longer than memory foam and other bed-in-a-box models. Although these beds are often pricier, the investment is worth it since they also last longer than most mattresses.
Is the Spindle latex mattress organic?
The company uses high-quality organic materials in this Spindle mattress. The bed features organic wool, organic cotton, and organic latex.

Overall Summary
Spindle is one of the best options if you’re after an eco-friendly mattress made from latex and multiple other natural materials. This 10-inch mattress is perfect for back sleepers, average-weight people, and couples looking for a bouncy bed.
Side Sleepers
4/5
Side sleepers should like the plush wool batting that allows a bit of contouring before you feel the first layer of latex. This bed has a medium firmness, so it should contour the pressure points just enough without taking away from the support, especially for average-weight side sleepers.
Back Sleepers
4/5
Back sleepers should find sufficient support in the Spindle mattress as it’s designed to support the body while contouring the lower back to prevent pressure buildup. Some back sleepers may prefer the softer or firmer versions of the bed, but most should do well with the Medium Spindle mattress.
Stomach Sleepers
3/5
Stomach sleepers need a firm surface that doesn’t let the hips sink into the comfort layers. While Spindle has sufficient support, the medium firmness may not be enough to keep the hips aligned. Some lightweight stomach sleepers may do good with this firmness, but anyone heavier should look for a firmer bed.
Combination Sleepers
4/5
Combination sleepers who spend most of their time sleeping on their back and side are likely to find the Spindle mattress comfortable. The bed has enough bounce to allow easy repositioning while allowing equal levels of pressure relief and support in various sleeping positions. Those who spend more time on their stomach should look at the firmer model.
Couples
5/5
Spindle should be a good match for couples looking for a bouncy and versatile bed. This mattress has enough edge-to-edge support, motion isolation, and bounce to appeal to co-sleepers and couples. However, some couples may prefer additional motion isolation if one partner is a restless sleeper and tends to toss and turn all night.
Heavy Sleepers
3/5
Not only we couldn’t find any official statements regarding the bed’s weight limit, but we also don’t think its construction would feel good for people over 230 pounds. Heavy people need firmer support, so they may do better with the firmer version of the Spindle mattress. The Medium Spindle is likely to allow too much sinkage.
Lightweight Sleepers
4/5
Lightweight sleepers should enjoy this bed, although they should consider their sleeping position first. Side sleepers may do better with a softer mattress because the medium firmness is unlikely to allow enough sinkage. However, this bed should feel comfortable for lightweight sleepers who enjoy sleeping on their stomach.
Average Weight Sleepers
4/5
People who weigh between 130 to 230 pounds should like the Spindle mattress as it has medium firmness that appeals to most people within this weight group. Side and back sleepers are likely to experience a nice contour from the wool batting and the latex comfort layer. Stomach sleepers might prefer a firmer bed, especially if they weigh closer to 230 pounds.
Overall Value
4/5
Shoppers get a lot of value with this mattress because not only is it made from high-quality, natural materials, but it also comes with a 365-night trial, a 10-year warranty, and a 25-year Comfort Program. In addition, you can choose between three firmness levels based on what feels best for you.
Our Verdict
Spindle’s 100% Natural Latex Mattress provides excellent pressure relief for combination sleepers seeking a bed with quick response and bounce.
Spindle set out to do with latex what other companies did with memory foam. The quality of this mattress shows their commitment to this goal. The use of high-quality, natural textiles and natural latex set this brand apart, providing users with a comfortable experience.
Like Sleep Advisor, Spindle’s end goal is to help you find your best night’s sleep. Their staff is ready and willing to help you find a mattress that works for you, even if it’s not their own. Now, that is great customer service!
