We had a chance to test multiple Tempur-Pedic mattresses, but in this review, we’re focusing on the TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt®. This mattress is available in Soft and Firm, but we tried out the Soft model specifically.
The LuxeAdapt® is one of the most luxurious beds from this brand — if not the most luxurious in the Adapt® collection. This mattress comes with 40 percent more TEMPUR® foam than found in other models. - People with joint pain – The TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt® mattress offers excellent pressure relief, which is good news for people with sensitive and achy joints. The memory foam hugs the body nicely so that pressure doesn’t build up in these areas.
- Light to average-weight side sleepers – We think lightweight and average-weight side sleepers are the best groups to use the LuxeAdapt® mattress. The bed has slow-moving memory foam that cradles the shoulders and hips in this position.
- Lightweight back sleepers – Back sleepers under 130 pounds should benefit from this Tempur-Pedic mattress. The foams allow enough pressure relief without taking away from the support.
Who We Don’t Recommend The Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt® For:
- Heavyweight sleepers – Unfortunately, we found the LuxeAdapt® to be too soft for plus-size sleepers over 230 pounds. Instead, we recommend seeing our picks for the top mattresses for heavy people.
- Stomach sleepers – Stomach sleepers need extra support for the hips to stay elevated, which we think the LuxeAdapt® might struggle with. This mattress is likely too soft to do the job, but you might want to try the Firm model.
- Average to heavyweight back sleepers – Heavier back sleepers, weighing above 130 pounds are likely to experience this bed as too soft. The plush foam layers are not firm enough to keep the lower back elevated in this position.

Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
Mattress firmness is important to know in the buying process. We use a firmness scale from 1 to 10 to better explain the overall feel, with 10 being the firmest feel possible.
The Soft LuxeAdapt® feels like a 5 out of 10 on our scale, which we’d describe as medium-plush. In most cases, this works better for people under 130 pounds, along with some average-weight sleepers, depending on their preferred sleeping position. We wouldn’t recommend it for heavy people.
How does it feel?
The first thing you’ll notice is the cool-to-the-touch cover with heat-wicking fibers that help keep the surface fresh and crisp throughout the night. When you press into the surface, you can see how slowly the foam moves.
Lying on the bed, we noticed the foam gently contouring and hugging the body. This should make most people feel like they’re sleeping ‘in’ a mattress rather than on it, which is great for people with pressure buildup but not so great for combination sleepers or people with limited mobility.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
Tempur-Pedic says their mattresses don’t have an official weight limit, but we think you should consider the overall feel of the Soft LuxeAdapt® model. It’s a plush mattress, which is why we would only recommend it for certain weight groups and sleep styles.
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – We think lightweight side sleepers should like how the LuxeAdapt® contours their curves, offering deep sinkage and excellent pressure relief in this position.
- Average Weight Sleepers – We think this Tempur-Pedic mattress is a good match for side sleepers weighing 130 to 230 pounds. Most people should still sink deeply into the comfort layers while the spine stays aligned.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – After testing this bed, we wouldn’t recommend it for heavy side sleepers because it’s just too soft.

Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight back sleepers might prefer the firmer model for extra lumbar lifting. That said, if you’re under 130 pounds, you probably won’t sink so much that you throw your spine out of alignment.
- Average Weight Sleepers – We don’t think this LuxeAdapt® is a good choice for average-weight back sleepers as it’s too soft. Instead, you might want to try the Firm model as it should do a better job of keeping your hips elevated.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Again, this isn’t a good option for heavier sleepers. We found the hips sinking too deeply into the foam, which can compromise spine alignment and lead to discomfort.

Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Stomach sleepers need a lot of support for the hips and this Tempur-Pedic might be too soft to provide that. It might work for some people who prefer soft beds, but we think the Firm model would be a better choice here.
- Average Weight Sleepers – The LuxeAdapt® provides deep body contouring, which can be a problem for stomach sleepers weighing 130 to 230 pounds. They’re likely to sink too deeply around the hips.

Is Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt® Good For Pain Relief?
Whether the TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt® is good for pain relief will depend on your body weight and preferred sleep position. While we think it has a lot to offer in terms of pressure relief, its softer feel could impact spine alignment for some folks, which could worsen pain in some cases.
Back Pain
This mattress should do a good job of relieving pressure in the lower back area, but only for those 130 pounds or less. Anyone heavier might experience too much sinkage, especially when sleeping on the back, which we think can make back pain even worse. You can find beds for back pain here.
Hip Pain
Lightweight to average-weight people with hip pain should like how the LuxeAdapt® feels around the hips. Even side sleepers should experience enough relief thanks to this bed’s overall plushness.

The LuxeAdapt® provides a deep hug with plenty of pressure relief, which is great news for people with shoulder pain. However, be mindful of your weight once again. Scoring this mattress for support was a bit difficult because of how soft it feels. There’s plushness at the top, which gives it that deep hug we mentioned earlier. This is excellent for pressure relief but can make things complicated for support.
The LuxeAdapt® has a high-density base layer for support, but if you’re particularly heavy, you’re likely to still sink too much.
However, lightweight to average-weight sleepers should experience good support, especially when sleeping on the side. We think back sleepers in general, might prefer the firmer version of this bed.
Motion Transfer

Motion isolation is crucial for couples and co-sleepers with different sleeping habits. Whether you sleep with a partner, kid, or your pet, you might feel most of their tossing and turning if you’re a light sleeper. In this case, we think motion isolation should be among your top priorities.
We found the TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt® to have excellent motion isolation mostly thanks to its all-foam construction. This means light sleepers should be able to sleep through most of their partner’s movements on the other side of the bed.

All-foam mattresses tend to trap heat and make it difficult for hot sleepers to achieve a good night’s sleep. However, Tempur-Pedic focused on addressing this concern by incorporating multiple cooling features in the TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt® mattress. This all-foam bed has a cover with phase change material that helps release heat so that it doesn’t stay trapped within the bed.
However, you should keep in mind that more pronounced sinkage could make you feel hot. If you’re a particularly hot sleeper, we suggest you look at other cooling mattresses that might allow more airflow.

When we tested the LuxeAdapt®, we noticed it had zero bounce. The deep hug it provides with its slow-moving memory foam is excellent for pressure relief, but not ideal for buoyancy and responsiveness. When you press into the layers, you can see them coming back to shape slowly and with no springiness.
This is good news for those focused on motion isolation, but we think it might be a dealbreaker for people with limited mobility.

Edge support is another category we always test for, and in the case of the TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt® Soft model, we were left wanting more. This bed doesn’t have the best edge support, mostly because it’s made from soft foam. The mattress is soft across the surface, including the perimeter. We noticed quite a bit of slipping and sinking when lying and sitting in this area. In this case, we recommend trying out a hybrid mattress since these contain coils and often perform better in this category.

This mattress has excellent motion isolation and some cooling features, both of which we think might be beneficial to couples sharing a bed. However, it lacks edge support, which means couples can’t spread out as much. On top of that, the slow-moving foam is not the best for sex since it has no pushback, which some couples prefer.

The TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt® comes with a cooling cover, but what’s great is that you can remove it for an easy wash in the machine.
Free White Glove Delivery
Tempur-Pedic includes free white glove delivery with this mattress, which we think is excellent if you live alone and won’t have help setting up your new bed.
Adjustable Base Compatible
The TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt® works on all mattress foundations, including an adjustable bed frame. Also, the company sells their own collection of adjustable bases, so you can be sure they fit the mattress.
Construction: What’s Inside the Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt®?
The Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt® is 13 inches tall and available in two firmness options. The Soft one we reviewed starts with a phase-change cover designed to dissipate body heat. This cover is removable and washable, which is not the case with all Tempur-Pedic mattresses.
- The comfort layer features 3.5 inches of TEMPUR-ES® memory foam, with the ‘ES’ standing for ‘extra soft.’ This layer was originally made by NASA scientists and is now only available in Tempur-Pedic mattresses. It’s what gives this bed the deep hug and cushioning we mentioned earlier.
- The second layer is a contouring layer, with just over an inch of TEMPUR-APR+™ foam, which stands for “advanced pressure relief.” According to the brand, this layer gives 30 percent more contouring than the original APR™ foam used in the company’s ProAdapt® model.
- The transition layer features poly foam to ease you into the firmer support layer. This layer is designed to prevent you from sinking too deeply into the base of the bed.
- The base layer features high-density poly foam to support the sleeper and provide durability for the rest of the bed.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
The Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt® arrives compressed in a box. What stands out is that it comes with free white glove delivery, so you don’t have to worry about setting it up.
You will, however, have to wait for a few hours before the mattress decompresses. Also, if you notice any off-gassing, this is probably due to the foam materials in this bed. Just make sure to ventilate the room, and the odors should dissipate within a few hours.

Eco-Friendly Certifications – The foams in the Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt® are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. Our Verdict
Tempur-Pedic is a great brand with a lot to offer, so we weren’t really surprised with the overall quality and feel of the LuxeAdapt®. Everything from the NASA-developed memory foam to the cool-to-the-touch cover helps bring your sleeping to the next level.
The performance categories it best excelled at were pressure relief and motion isolation, the latter of which is beneficial for couples worried about tossing and turning. However, this bed does lack responsiveness and edge support, which is why it earned a final score of 3.6 out of 5.
That said, think about the factors important to you. If you find that neither edge support nor bounce matters to you, you should love the TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt® mattress.
