In our next showdown, we take a look at the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe vs. Helix, two hybrid mattresses that are customizable but on totally different levels.
Brooklyn Bedding is an older brand that recently introduced the Aurora Luxe, a higher-end hybrid at a lower cost than comparable beds you would typically find at a mattress showroom.
Helix prides itself on its new customization process, a unique, new way to find your “perfect match.” Using their online quiz, you can punch in your personal information, and it will generate a few of the brand’s 15 models that can fit your situation.
Be sure to take a glance at our individual reviews to get a deeper understanding of each bed.

Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Construction
A spring and foam hybrid, the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is vacuum-sealed and shipped straight to your door. It comes in three firmness options: Soft, Medium, and Firm. This review will focus mainly on the Medium, which tends to be the most versatile.
Covered in a temperature-regulating stretchy rayon and polyester blend with phase-change, thermo-knitted technology, it stands at 13 inches tall.
- The top layer is 1.5-inches of comfort TitanFlex foam that is Brooklyn Bedding’s latex alternative for durability and breathability. It is soft to help relieve pressure and quick-responding.
- The next layer is a firmer 2-inch TitanFlex Foam designed for comfort and pressure relief that should adjust with your body as you move through the night.
- The third layer supports deeper compression by contouring to your joints in its 1-inch Swirl Visco-Elastic Memory Foam.
- The fourth layer is the bed’s 8-inch main support system of Quantum Edge™ coils that are individually wrapped, which should provide bounce and cooling and limit motion transfer
- The bottom layer gives the coiled system some extra reinforcement and durability using 1 inch of high-density foam.
Note that construction may vary in the Soft and Firm models.

Helix Construction
A customizable hybrid foam and spring bed, Helix also comes rolled up, wrapped, and sealed in a box. The company sells 15 different mattresses according to your personal preferences, including Plus (made for heavier folks) and Luxe options for every model (extra cooling features, height, and body-zoned comfort). For the purposes of this comparison, we will predominantly discuss the Dusk because of its versatility.

With that being said, even the Helix Dusk has its customization—each mattress comes with a two-cover design with a stretchy and soft top layer and a lower layer for breathability. This cover can be upgraded to the Ultra-Cool Knit Cover that should keep your nights even cooler.
- The first layer uses Helix Dynamic Foam, a latex hybrid that should provide some contouring, a little bounce, and some airflow.
- The second layer is a transitional High-Grade Polyfoam that gives some support and aids spine alignment.
- The next layer has the individually wrapped coil system with reinforcement around the edges for perimeter support.
- The bottom layer, composed of DuraDense Foam, gives something for the coils to bounce off of and should add some longevity to the bed.
All models have four layers, but the materials may be different. The company does not publish layer dimensions online.
Comparing Firmness (Support & Feel)
We used our comfort scale to rate these competitors on firmness, using a system from 1 to 10, 10 being the firmest and 1 being the softest. Both of these products have different firmness levels available.
The Aurora Luxe’s Medium scored a 5, which is right at that true medium feel. (Their Soft comes in at 3, and the Firm is ranked a 7.)
Helix can land anywhere from 3 to 9 depending on the preferences you choose; their Dusk model scores a 6, a pretty versatile medium firmness. This is part of the reason why it is such a popular model, as it should be comfortable for the average sleeper.
Both beds are pretty comparable in feel, but Aurora Luxe is slightly softer in its Medium model. For this reason, side sleepers might prefer it, while back sleeping folks and stomach sleepers might like the firmer feel of Dusk. Keep in mind, however, that Helix has three different beds in three firmness levels specifically targeted to side sleepers.
Helix and Aurora Luxe both have quick responding materials built into the top layers. Pressing down on these mattresses, you should see some compression, but once you release the pressure, the foams should snap back into place pretty quickly.
If you and/or your partner are particularly heavier than average, we might recommend Aurora Luxe over Helix. Aurora Luxe will offer greater support and durability due to its height and materials, whereas Helix has a weight recommendation of 350 pounds for an individual and 250 pounds each for couples.

Aurora Luxe should provide a gentle cradling when laying on the surface, and its TitanFlex latex-like foam and coiled system should give a moderate amount of bounce, making repositioning a breeze. You should not feel like you are sinking very deeply into the mattress.
Dusk performs similarly in this area due to its latex alternative and hybrid base. Helix offers beds topped with memory materials, like their Midnight model, so if you prefer the slower response and extra contouring of memory materials, that option is available with this brand.
Comparing Motion Transfer
Waking up in the middle of the night due to motion disturbances can ruin a night’s sleep. This should not be a problem on either bed because of their individually-wrapped coils and movement-reducing foams.
Comparing Edge Support
Both brands offer reinforced edge support, important for couples that want to maximize every inch of their bed. Aurora Luxe scores slightly higher in this area, so those who specifically like to sleep on the bed’s edge should feel evenly supported around the perimeter. For most, though, either option will work just fine.
