Who says innerspring mattresses are outdated? Our WinkBed vs. Saatva Mattress comparison puts these two products side by side to see which one comes out on top.

Saatva has been selling its mattress online since 2010. Under their brand, they retail several luxury mattress options including Zenhaven and Loom & Leaf. WinkBed has factories in Wisconsin and Orlando and works with manufacturing partners that have been building sleep products for over 60 years.

Both beds offer excellent customization for shoppers, but which one will win this face-off? Will it be the WinkBed or the Saatva? We’ll let you decide at the end.

Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel

Firmness

We rate mattress firmness on a scale that ranges from 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest. Both the Saatva and WinkBed come in three firmness levels.

The Luxury Firm WinkBed scores at a 6.5, the Soft at 4.5, and the Firm at 7.5. Saatva’s Luxury Firm is rated equal to the WinkBed Luxury Firm at 6.5, though there is some variation on the other models. The Saatva Plush Soft is a 4, and the Saatva Firm is an 8.

Support

The WinkBed’s pocketed coil system helps to provide contouring and assists in spine alignment and support. The Saatva includes a lumbar support layer that should align the lower back with the shoulders, while the coils beneath help maximize support.

With regards to edge support, the WinkBed finds a way around this problem by incorporating edge-to-edge coils. Likewise, Saatva solves this problem by not compressing their product. Their bed uses a thick support foam as well, making both of these products very comparable in this category.

Feel

The Luxury Firm WinkBed has a gentle pillow top that sleepers sink through, leaving them in a gentle, pressure-relieving cradle. Meanwhile, the coils on this bed provide great support and responsiveness.

The first thing sleepers should notice on the Saatva is how soft the pillow top is, and when climbing into bed most sleepers will experience their body cradled gently as the materials contour their curves and wipe away pressure.

Comparing Sinkage and Bounce

Both of these products are very relatable in terms of sinkage and bounce. How much sinkage sleepers experience is going to depend on what firmness customers order for either of these products. The firmer versions offer more of a minimal cradle, while the softer options foster more of a deep hug. However, your body weight will also factor in because those who carry more weight will naturally sink into the mattress more.

As you may expect, bounce is abundant with innerspring mattresses. The bounce provided by the Saatva and WinkBed mattresses makes them both ideal for repositioning if you’re a combination sleeper or someone who has limited mobility.

Comparing Motion Transfer

Motion transfer is the amount of movement that moves across the surface of a mattress. When sleeping with a partner, a bed with poor motion isolation has the tendency to rattle the other sleeper awake when one partner climbs into bed or simply rolls over.

Both of these products use a coil system that isolates the springs and traps the motion within each individual coil, though the WinkBed uses only one coil unit.

While a bed that uses an all-foam design, specifically with memory foam, may do better with motion transfer than either of these beds, both Saatva and WinkBed do well above the industry standard in this regard.

Comparing Cooling

Both the Saatva and WinkBed offer multiple cooling features for sleepers who are eager to avoid sweaty and sleepless nights. First, each mattress has coils that will naturally boost airflow throughout the center of the mattress. Second, they each have a temperature-regulating cover; the WinkBed’s cover is made with moisture-wicking Tencel©, and the Saatva’s cover is made of breathable cotton.

The WinkBed also incorporates cooling gel into its comfort foam layer, and while the Saatva does not have gel in its foam, the additional coil unit helps foster more cooling.

Comparing Construction (Materials & Quality)

WinkBed Construction

Each WinkBed is made to order and is then compressed and considered a bed-in-a-box mattress. The cover of each mattress is made from a Tencel© fabric, which is breathable and built to wick away heat. Tufted inside the cover is a plush gel foam that makes up the bed’s Euro top.

This mattress is 13.5 inches tall.

• The top comfort layer is a plush gel foam that is 2 inches thick. This was designed to contour to the sleeper’s curves and facilitate repositioning.
• The next layer is 2.5 inches of SupportCell foam. This should give you added comfort before you transition to the coils below.
• The innerspring layer sports 8 inches of pocketed steel coils that foster a stable foundation and optimized support. This provides open-air circulation and deeper bounce.
• The base layer uses a poly foam that is 1 inch thick to support the layers above and protect the bed’s structure.

Saatva Construction

The Saatva does not come in a box but is delivered full size via white glove delivery. The cover is made of hypoallergenic fibers and organic cotton with 3 inches of foam stitched into the pillow top, making for a soft feel.

The mattress comes in two heights: 11.5 inches and 14.5 inches. This construction description will focus on the layer of the 11.5-inch version.

• Under the pillowtop is a memory foam layer in the center of the bed for lumbar support enhancement.
• The next layer is a system of coils that conform to the sleeper’s body and help to prevent motion transfer.
• The second layer of coils contains hourglass-shaped innersprings. This is the support center of the Saatva, and the coil-over-coil structure helps to increase air circulation.
• The sides are encased in a dual perimeter edge support system. This thick foam maximizes the sleeping space by keeping the sides of the bed nice and strong.

• Shipping – Shipping for the WinkBed is free within the contiguous U.S. Saatva offers complimentary white glove delivery with your purchase, which means a team of professionals will set up your new mattress and remove your old one.
• Trial Period – The WinkBed comes with a 120-night trial period, whereas Saatva gives you a full year to decide on this bed.
• Returns – You can return a WinkBed mattress for free, but there may be a shipping fee to return it. Saatva will pick up the mattress if you return it within the trial period. Although you will get a full refund, there’s a 99-dollar fee to cover transportation costs.
• Price – With the exception of Twin size, Saatva is the more expensive mattress.
