First Impressions
Firmness Scale: 5.5/10 (Medium)
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
At Sleep Advisor, we rate mattress firmness on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest feel and 10 being the firmest feel. When we tested the EcoCloud mattress, we agreed that it feels like a 5.5 out of 10 on our scale, which we qualify as a medium feel.
This firmness rating is right at the middle of our scale, so it shouldn’t feel too firm or soft for most people. It’s a versatile firmness that should give many people a nice balance of support and pressure relief. However, heavier people might find it significantly softer and not as supportive.
How Does the EcoCloud Bed Feel?
We found that EcoCloud feels bouncy because of the latex and innerspring. It also has a soft cover that gives it a luxurious feel. According to our tester, Stuart, “That’s a nice medium area that should give people good pressure relief and support and should fit a lot of sleepers’ styles and needs.”
He goes on to say, “You should feel a comfortable cradling when you’re in this bed, but nothing too deep, we’re not quite at a hug level yet, we’re still at a gentle cradle.”
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – We think you’ll like the EcoCloud’s softer feel if you weigh under 130 pounds. There’s plenty of pressure relief when you sleep on the side.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Side sleepers weighing 130 to 230 pounds should feel comfortable on the EcoCloud mattress thanks to the bouncy latex and the plush top.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Sleepers weighing over 230 pounds are likely to sink too deeply into the soft layers, which we think can create pressure buildup on the shoulders and hips.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – This WinkBeds model should be a good match for lightweight back sleepers who prefer bouncy and supportive beds. The latex here takes the pressure off the lower back while the coils provide spinal support.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – We think this mattress should be an equally good match for back sleepers weighing 130 to 230 pounds. They should benefit from every layer in this bed, especially the zoned coils.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – The EcoCloud mattress has medium firmness, which could be too soft for most heavy back sleepers.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – We think many lightweight stomach sleepers should like the EcoCloud as they don’t weigh as much to sink too deeply into its layers. However, some may still prefer a bit more support for the hips, especially if they’re closer to 130 pounds.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – The testing team agreed that the WinkBeds EcoCLoud would likely feel too soft for stomach sleepers weighing 130 to 230 pounds.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – As with average-weight people, we think this bed is too soft to support the hips in this position.
Pressure Relief

When we tested the EcoCloud mattress, we found that it delivers excellent pressure relief.
The mattress combines plush cotton and wool at the top, with 4 inches of Talalay latex underneath to create a gentle cradle. This should conform to your body, gently filling in the cracks where necessary. We found it does this particularly well in the lower back area as well as the neck.
Is the WinkBeds EcoCloud Good for Pain Relief?
This bed has zoned support, which we think is extra helpful for people with pain. Zoned support gives a stronger lift for the heaviest parts of your body, such as the hips and lower back.
We think the zoned support is particularly beneficial in the EcoCloud because it’s paired with a medium firmness that helps keep the body aligned in different positions. However, you should always consider your preferred sleeping position, body weight, and the type of pain you’re sleeping with.
Back Pain
People with back pain should love the zoned support layer with individually wrapped coils. These are the most supportive under the heaviest areas, such as the lower back, which helps keep the spine aligned. If you’re sleeping with back pain, we think the medium firmness, the support level, and this bed’s pressure-relieving capabilities could help you sleep better.
Hip Pain
EcoCloud’s zoned support should once again come in handy if you sleep with hip pain. The support is higher at the hips, while the top layer ensures there’s enough cushioning to prevent the pressure from building up. However, we think stomach sleepers might want a firmer bed because EcoCloud could make your hip pain worse if you’re sleeping on the stomach.
Shoulder Pain
People with shoulder pain should like how this WinkBeds model feels on the shoulders but keep in mind your body shape and weight. Sleeping on the side could make things worse if you’re a heavy person with shoulder pain.

What’s pressure relief without support? Well, in most cases, it’s a mattress that bottoms out, letting you fall too deeply into the layers until your sleep posture is out of place. This can easily result in pain, so we’d say support is crucial.
The main support system of the EcoCloud is the innerspring coil unit sitting right under the latex. These springs are designed to target the support where it’s needed the most. For this reason, the bed might feel differently around your core than it does around the shoulders and knees. Apart from support, these give some bounce as well.
Motion Isolation
3.5/5
Motion transfer can make it difficult for many people to achieve a good night’s sleep. This is particularly the case with couples who have different sleeping habits. If your partner’s tossing and turning keeps waking you up at night, you might benefit from motion isolation.
In many cases (though it’s not a rule), when a mattress is bouncy, it tends to have higher motion transfer. This is exactly the case with the EcoCloud.
This bed has plenty of bounce, but that comes at the price of motion isolation. In our opinion, it still performs better than most latex and innerspring beds, but it’s not to be compared to memory foam, which is arguably the best for isolating motion.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling

Hot sleepers know how important it is to find a well-performing cooling mattress. Many popular beds have cooling gels along with other temperature-regulating technologies, but the EcoCloud does this naturally. The bed contains temperature-neutral latex and coils for airflow.
We think most hot sleepers should be happy with the EcoCLoud mattress. However, if you’re exceptionally hot, we think you might want a bit more cooling, such as a cool-to-the-touch cover.
Bounce

We expected a lot of bounce when we saw the list of materials here. First of all, there’s naturally bouncy latex on top of springy coils.
We found the surface to be quite bouncy, coming back to shape as soon as you move or get out of bed. When pressing deeper, we noticed instant responsiveness of the coils with plenty of pushback.
Edge Support

Innerspring mattresses don’t always have strong edge support, but we found the EcoCloud to stand out in this category. This innerspring model has strong edge support thanks to reinforced coils in this area. Sleeping in this area feels secure, but sitting might not feel as sturdy.
Nonetheless, we think this WinkBeds mattress has better edge support than most innerspring beds within this price range.
Performance for Couples

Couples typically look for good motion isolation, edge support, and bounce, most of which they can find in the WinkBeds EcoCloud mattress. The motion isolation might not be the best, but we’d say this bed excels in bounce and edge support for couples specifically interested in these two categories.
We think this WinkBeds mattress could be a good option for many couples, including those who typically sleep hot.

Construction: What’s Inside the WinkBed EcoCloud?
The WinkBeds EcoCloud is a 12.5-inch mattress with a .5-inch cover made from organic cotton and sustainable New Zealand wool. We think this combination gives it plush comfort and moisture-wicking properties.
The bed has two layers under the cover, but there’s also a specially-made perimeter reinforcement for added edge support.
- The comfort layer features 4 inches of Talalay latex sectioned so that it offers increased support in the lower back and a softer feel around the hips and shoulders. On top of that, Talalay latex has an open-cell structure that helps regulate temperature.
- The base layer is also the EcoCloud’s support unit, with individually wrapped coils that are zoned for more enhanced support. These are coils 8 inches tall and made from recycled steel, enhancing this bed’s sustainability. Plus, the coils provide plenty of bounce, pushback, and airflow.
- The perimeter is reinforced with ExtraEdge™ Anit-Sag Support coils. We found this makes the edge support better than in many mattresses within this price range. The edge collapses only a bit when sitting in this area, but lying here should feel secure enough.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
To open your new EcoCloud bed, all you have to do is slash the box open to remove the plastic covering before you let the mattress unroll. We suggest you place the package on your foundation of choice so the EcoCloud unrolls where it will ultimately be placed.
Once it unrolls, it will take some time to decompress. This can take several hours, so give it some time to fully expand before you try sleeping on it.

We think the WinkBeds EcoCloud can be good for back pain thanks to its zoned support. Zoned support is typically good for preventing back pain and sleeping with already existing pain in this area. However, this very much depends on your preferred sleeping position and body weight. For example, the EcoCloud might not work for heavy stomach sleepers with back pain.
Are WinkBeds mattresses flippable?
No, WinkBeds mattresses aren’t flippable. WinkBeds mattresses have layers specifically stacked so that they perform their best. Our Verdict
After testing this bed, we think the EcoCloud is a great mattress for many people, including lightweight and average-weight sleepers, as well as back and side sleepers. It’s affordable and eco-friendly, both of which make it stand out among similar mattresses.
However, we found it doesn’t work the best for heavy sleepers as they’re likely to find it too soft. In this case, these sleepers should look at the brand’s WinkBed Plus mattress, as it’s designed for heavier people. On top of that, stomach sleepers might also prefer a firmer bed, unless they’re weighing less than 130 pounds.
Overall, we gave the EcoCloud a score of 4.3 out of 5.
